Patented RigidCore Foam-Filled Lid The lid is not a hollow aluminum shell. UWS injects a solid foam core between two sheets of aluminum, which stiffens the whole panel so it does not bow in the middle, does not warp in the sun, and does not bind in the latches after a few hundred cycles. It is the difference you notice every time the lid closes squarely instead of needing a shove.
One-Piece Welded Aluminum Tub The tub is formed from a single sheet of extra-thick aluminum and welded, rather than riveted or folded from panels. There are no seams down the corners to leak or split, and aluminum will not rust out from the inside the way a painted steel box does once the coating is chipped.
Bright Aluminum Diamond Plate Finish The bright aluminum diamond plate is the classic work-truck look and it is the lowest-maintenance finish UWS offers: there is no paint to chip, so a scuff polishes out rather than turning into a rust spot. UWS's own care guidance is that polish will clear small scratches and scuffs.
Stainless Steel Paddle Latches, Locking From Either Side Two recessed stainless steel paddle latches with keyed locks, connected inside the box so it opens from the driver's side or the passenger's side. Recessing the latch into the box face means there is nothing sticking out to catch a hip or a cargo strap, and stainless means the lock still turns after a salt winter.
MicroSeal Gasket Around the Lid A closed-cell gasket runs the full perimeter of the opening and compresses when the lid shuts, which is what keeps dust, road spray and rain out of the box. UWS demonstrates it publicly by hitting a closed box with mud and then a pressure washer, and that video is linked on this page.
Self-Opening Lid That Stops at 90 Degrees Gas struts take the weight, so the lid lifts itself once the latches release and stays put at a full 90 degrees. That matters when your hands are full: you release the latch, the lid goes up, and it does not come back down on your knuckles while you are reaching in.
Packaged for Parcel Delivery, Not Freight This is the EC version of the box, which UWS packages specifically so it can ship by parcel carrier instead of on a freight pallet. In practice that means it comes to your door rather than to a terminal you have to drive to, and there is no appointment window to sit through. Look is great. 100 lbs lighter than my 2nd pick. Lid lock and opening are smooth. Only minor knock I give is the the tie down hooks are hard to install - thinking I should have done them before installing.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.
