UWS is short for United Welding Services, and the name is the point: every UWS box starts as flat aluminum sheet and is welded into a single-piece tub rather than riveted or folded together. Two pieces of engineering separate a UWS box from a generic aluminum one. The first is the patented RigidCore lid: instead of a hollow shell, the lid is a pair of aluminum plates completely filled with a hardening, expanding foam, which sets into a solid structure and stops the lid bending, warping or binding after a few years of being leaned on. The second is the MicroSeal gasket, which lines the entire seam where the lid meets the tub and keeps water, dust, grit and insects out of the box rather than merely slowing them down. Will the 8500002 fit my machine?
UWS lists this part number for certain model years of the Can-Am Defender. "Certain years" is UWS's own wording, and the bracket kit is cut for specific years, so check your machine's year against the UWS application guide before ordering rather than going by the model name alone.
Are the mounting brackets included?
Yes. This part number ships with the vehicle-specific bracket and hardware kit for Can-Am Defender, and the Parts List on UWS's sheet for that kit reads: 2 turnbuckle brackets, 4 turnbuckles, 4 hex bolts 5/16"-18 x 1", 8 flat washers, 4 nylock nuts. That is the main thing separating it from the plain box SKU, which costs less and comes with nothing to mount it with.
Can I put this in a pickup truck bed?
It is not designed for one. This is a crossbed box proportioned for a side-by-side bed, at 59.75" by 12.25" by 10.25", and it has no truck bed-rail mounting of any kind. For a pickup, look at the UWS chest and crossover boxes instead.
How much will it hold?
UWS rates the interior at 3.2ft³. The tub measures 52" by 11.5", 4.5" deep at the lower section. Those figures come from UWS's own dimension drawing for this part number and match the spec table on the same page.
Will it keep dust and water out?
That is what the MicroSeal gasket is for: it lines the seam where the lid meets the tub and keeps out moisture, dirt, debris and insects. On a trail machine the fine dust is usually the bigger problem, and the gasket is the reason the contents stay clean. It is a sealed box, not a submersible case.
Why are there two part numbers for what looks like the same box?
Because of how it ships. This one goes freight (LTL), which means a truck and a delivery appointment. UWS also sells the identical box in heavy parcel packaging under a separate part number, backed by a damage-free delivery guarantee, if a freight delivery is awkward where you are.

Look is great. 100 lbs lighter than my 2nd pick. Lid lock and opening are smooth. Only minor knock I give is the the tie down hooks are hard to install - thinking I should have done them before installing.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.

The toolbox is nice. I think Ill get a lot of years of service out of it. I like how the lid opens and the tie downs are a nice touch. It seems to be well built. And tough. Im pleased with my purchase and would buy another one.
