A pneumatic gas spring rated at 45 lb, which is what does the work of lifting the lid and holding it open rather than you holding it.
10" Extended, 6.5" Compressed
The cylinder measures 10" fully extended and 6.5" compressed. Check those figures against the strut you are replacing, because the large UWS cylinder is a different length.
Clips Onto the Ball Stud and Top Bracket
It attaches to the existing ball stud at one end and the top cylinder bracket at the other, so no drilling is involved. Both of those are also stocked UWS service parts if one is worn.
Not for -LBTA Extra-Wide Boxes
UWS is explicit that this cylinder will not fit the extra-wide models whose part numbers contain LBTA. Those take the large cylinder, part UWSLGLIFTCYLNDR.

Prop the lid before you unclip the old cylinder, because the lid drops under its own weight once the strut is off. If the box has two cylinders, replace both together: the second one is the same age as the first.
