Built to guard the rockers
The rail runs tight along the rocker panel, where it takes the gravel and road debris thrown up by the front tires before it reaches the paint. The all-steel bar wears a textured black powder coat warranted for 5 years.
Matched to your vehicle
Each RS set is cut and bracketed for one body style, so every drop plate sits under its door. Most applications bolt to factory mounting points; where a vehicle needs a hole drilled, the Installation tab of that listing says so.
Low profile, wide footing
The RS pairs a slim 2" tube that hugs the rocker panel with a 4.75" drop plate at each door, so the bar stays tight while the step stays generous. N-Fab rates each step at up to 300 lb.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
Do I have to drill to install these?
Most applications bolt to factory mounting points with the supplied hardware and need no drilling. A few vehicles do need holes drilled, and where that applies, the Installation tab of that listing says so and names the step. Check it before you order if drilling is a deal-breaker.
Will the powder coat hold up to road salt?
The RS is mild steel protected by textured black powder coat, and N-Fab warrants the finish for 5 years. Powder coat protects well while it is intact, but a stone chip exposes steel, and in a salt state rust can start at chips, welds and the leading edge of the step. Rinse the bars through winter and touch up chips when you see them.
Will the RS cost me ground clearance?
The 2" primary tube hugs the rocker panel so the bar adds as little as possible below the body, but the drop step plates do hang lower than the rocker line, as every hoop step does. If you run tight trails, look at the step plates as the lowest point on the side of the vehicle.
How much weight can each step take?
N-Fab rates the Nerf Step RS at up to 300 lb per step and 600 lb per side.
How long does the install take and what tools do I need?
It is a driveway job with sockets, wrenches and a ratchet, plus a torque wrench where your guide lists a value, and a drill on the applications whose guide calls for one. Watch the bracket orientation diagrams, since driver and passenger brackets are not interchangeable on every application. The Installation tab of each listing carries the details.
Will the bars sag or loosen over time?
A bar that is installed square and rechecked should stay put. Sag almost always traces back to fasteners tightened one at a time before the bar was aligned, or never rechecked. Snug everything by hand, set the bar parallel to the rocker, tighten to the values in your guide, then recheck after the first few weeks of driving.
