The BAKFlip MX4 is a hard folding tonneau cover: aluminum panels over high-density polymer cores that fold toward the cab, locked down by BAK's patented auto-latch the moment you close them. BAK calls it America's best-selling truck bed cover, and the Gen 3 version (model year 2025) brings panels it rates 22% stronger than the original, re-engineered locks and revised seals. BAK makes it in truck-specific versions for full-size, mid-size, heavy-duty and electric pickups, each cut for one bed length and, on some trucks, one bed option such as RamBox, the multifunction tailgate, factory deck rails or GMC's CarbonPro bed. Every version is rated at 400 lb spread evenly, clamps on with no drilling on most trucks and carries BAK's 5-year limited warranty.

The range splits into BAKFlip hard folding covers (MX4, MX4 EZ-Lift, MX4 TS, G2, F1 and Fibermax) and Revolver hard roll-ups (X2, X4s and X4 TS). The MX4 is the aluminum-panel BAKFlip that BAK calls America's best-selling truck bed cover; the MX4 TS adds T-slot rails and the MX4 EZ-Lift adds a lift-assist system.

Start with your truck's year, make and model, then measure the bed along the rail from the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. Match that to the version for your truck, then check the bed options BAK lists separate parts for, such as RamBox, the Ram multifunction tailgate, Toyota's deck rail system and GMC's CarbonPro bed, and the body-style changeover years (2019 GM and Ram). Most clamp to the bed rails with no drilling, following BAK's standard sheet. Some trucks have their own sheet: the 8' beds use two-piece rails joined with couplers, Tacoma and deck-rail Tundra versions bolt to the factory rails with T-nuts, the 2024-2025 Ranger bolts through the factory clip holes, and the CarbonPro version needs small holes drilled in the bed caps. Each page shows the sheet for that truck.
BAK lists stronger panels (high-density polymer cores, 22% stronger than the original MX4), re-engineered lock parts that resist forced entry better than the Gen 2, revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps, a dual-action tailgate seal 13% longer than before, re-engineered prop rod clips, and a click-in design that it says cuts install time by 12%.
It is built to: edge-to-edge seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap to the bed rails, and drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own install sheet says the cover is not airtight, so plan on weather-resistant rather than sealed. Clear snow and ice off before you open it; that is a warranty condition too.
BAK rates the closed cover at 400 lb, evenly distributed. BAK's sheet also says not to drive with objects on top of the cover or tie cargo to it.
Yes. Fold it toward the cab and attach the straps to the buckles at the bulkhead, pulled snug, and you can drive with the bed open. The cover must be secured at all points while the truck is moving; that is a condition of the warranty.

This tonneau cover was even nicer looking than I thought it would be. Super streamlined and matches my Rhino Lining bedliner somehow. The only complaint is that I installed it three weeks ago and the adhesive foam strips are peeling up already. The truck is garage stored and its summer so it hasnt been in the elements yet.
Compared a lot of covers for my needs. This one came highly recommended by quite a few of my friends, and looking around random parking lots it seemed to be a popular choice. Should have just gone ahead and bought it 3 months earlier rather than worrying that I'd be disappointed. My ONLY complaint is that it could be just a tad bit longer to fit against the front of the bed better. When properly adjusted at the tailgate, the weather strip at the front is just barely enough to do the job. Mind you, it covers the box and very little water gets in--but a half-inch more would have been possible. Installation was easy enough with an assistant. Functions great and is holding up to daily life.

I have ordered three of these hard covers from BAKFlip. The work. The install has many small things that must be done correctly or you can have issues. A few things to know. The cover gets impossibly hot-black aluminum. I am looking into using white or reflective paint because sometimes at 90 degrees, it is so hot it is difficult to handle. Also, we cover our 5th wheel hitch and it is close but works. Lastly, if you flip it back and use the clips to secure the last panel in the down position, it is so tight that when done for prolonged times it creates a small sunken spot on the last flip panel and rain collects. Since they tell me the top is not guaranteed to seal perfectly, expect some water inside the bed. This is an excellent product depending on your needs.

This bed cover is simply amazing. Yes, it has a premium price, but you are getting a premium product. Installation, however was another animal. Every review I seen said it was a 1 out 5 stars for difficulty of installation. I spent quite awhile on installation, I just gave up and took it to a truck/off-road center store and they put it on and they spent about 2hrs installing it. Even they said that. . “they love selling ‘em, hate installing ‘em”. Highly recommend this product to anyone, just have a shop install it. .

Fit perfect, the issue I have is when you are folding and keep open the cover, the air kick back the cover, it is not strong enough to hold, should be better quality for the price I pay, looks good but I was disappointed that did not function as needs to be.
After researching many brands and types of covers I saw that a lot of people liked this one so I gave it a shot. Really happy with it. Came packaged great and installation wasn't bad. Only hiccup was the two bolts that hold the brackets for the rods were slightly too large but luckily I had some different sizes in my garage. Overall happy and it looks great on my 2020 Power Wagon.
Fit nice and looks good. Functions easily. Nice to be able to have tools in the back and make a stop without being concerned someone will have a greater need for my equipment.
I like everything about my cover. It looks great and I have received many compliments. However, I can't get the passenger side lock to work. Any suggestions?
This was incredibly easy to install and does a good job keeping the elements out. It locks at various points to keep it secure. Total install time was about 20 minutes. Follow the instructions for a tight fit.
This was my second cover. The first one I bought four years ago. There were some very nice improvements both cosmetic and practical. Happy to demonstrate my cover to anyone who asks. It took me about half and hour to install it this time. Suggest a rubber grommet for the drain tubs going out the bottling of the bed.

Purchased this for my husband for Christmas a little worried because not my type of purchase. What do I know about truck covers. Well, I guess I know something because he loved it. All the 5 stars are his rating.
Easy install, great looking. It folds easily to allow full use of the truck bed. I have had hard roll ups, soft roll ups, plastic and fiberglass one piece covers. This is by far the best IMO.
The cover looks beautiful. Install was easy. But near the front of the bed on the right side water has a consistent drip during a med-high rain. If I was to know this leaked this much I would have bought a cheaper alternative. This review does not allow for media but I would post if I could.

Easy to install - looks good. One thing - you could have included a couple more inches of rubber cushion seal so that one could add such to the corners by the bulk head to make the space between the rail being installed and the seal being added on the bilk head. Waiting on the shims
Took a little more than a month between the initial order and when I took delivery, but it was worth it! Upon unpacking, the cover had some scuffs and the right rail has a bend in the channel where the S-clips slide in. Luckily, I was able to work around the bend in the rail without compromising the security of the cover. Installation instructions were great, and there are some helpful Youtube videos, too.
Very easy install. Great price with very quick shipping. It looks great and a super addition to the truck.
Fantastic cover
Once I got the instructions figured out, the cover went on easy. Looks great, but is still too early to tell if it will hold up.
I had an MX 2 installed on my 2017 Tacoma in January 2017. When I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma I wanted the BakFlip for it. The MX 2 is so much easier to install and it aligns with no issues. I had to keep adjusting the rails to improve the fit. The right side of the cover did not close all the way; there was a 1/4 inch gap. Part of the problem was the rubber seal improperly installed at the factory. I managed to peel it back and adjust it as it should have been.

Love the bakflip on my Silverdo work truck with 8 ft box. Like it better the a cap so I can drop load gravel etc...
Nice fit & easy to install! Really only issue is with the adhesive on the foam parts and bumpers, would not stick to anything, not even itself. Customer Service was very good and they sent replacements, but since I was alresdy ing the middle of the installation I just used some 3M Clear 4905 HD waterproof double sided tape and applied to original foam pieces, saved the wait time and probably better.
The look is amazing and I’m glad I purchased. A little difficult on the install, but overall, I’m pleased with this cover.
Rail clamping system sucks. It is very hard to get the rail flat so the top latches. Also the supports to hold the top up when it is folded does not work at all.

The holders for the rods that help secure the cover when it’s fully open are the two cheapest and lousy holders for when the cover is closed. Come on you can do better. The cover and customer support are awesome. The cover makes the look of the truck!
Everything was great, but the box was beat up a little. Upon opening the box, there was a small dent on the inner portion of the cover. Not big enough to return, just big enough to notice.
I’ve been wanting the BakFlip MX4 for my 17 F150 for a while and I finally broke down and bought one. It’s everything I thought it’d be. It’s has great quality, durable and can easily be installed within a couple hours by yourself, but an extra set of hands doesn’t hurt.

Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.
First, watched the online video instructions for my year mode and make prior to starting. Small item, but 1/8" shims shown in the video were not included with my purchase. Second, both rubber bumpers that support the cover when in the folded position became unattached after 6 weeks without ever having the cover in the folded position. Third, both struts that are used to lock the cover in the folded open position are constantly vibrated from their holders and then hang down getting entangled in what ever cargo is being carried. Just a matter of time before they are broken off.
Easy install! Nice quality, just what I wanted. Low profile. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
This is my third truck to install bak flip tri fold hard cover. Each one was improved and better than the last. My only issue was a wrong part was packed with mine so I had to call customer service to ship out the correct part. I think I have had this issue on the last two covers. Issue was always resolved in a professional and professional way but it is just an added cost to you and an extra step for the customer. You dont expect this from this price point.

Replaced a soft cover with this. So far its been great. Gear is secure. Easy install.
First box came without hardware. Second box came with everything but was not straight with one side being longer than the other. They kept asking me for pictures and measurements till I had enough and sent it back for a full refund. Will never buy anything from them again. The funny thing is ,this is the second time they asked me to do a review on their junk.

The Ford Maverick factory options are fine but the BAKFlip is heavier duty. The installation was easy and took an hour but I have installed one on my F350 previously. It may take a little longer for someone with no experience installing a bed cover. Instruction are easy to follow. The BAKFlip is popular so there are excellent videos of step by step instruction online. An advantage of the BAKFlip is it is more secure than a regular cover. It’s going to be hard for someone to break into my bed and steal anything.
Love the new design. Light weight and excellent quality and design. Easy to install with minimal tool required and the looks are amazing. Super sleek.
Tonneau cover looks great and was very easy to install. It’s very easy to fold open and gives full access to the whole bed.

The first backflip we received had a divet in the panel. They sent us a new panel that had the corner cover damaged and the screw pulled out. It was for a Long bed truck and it didn’t come with full length solid rails we had to add the extra 2’ which wasn’t easy and was annoying. Since we have been using it for over a month, 4-5 of the protective foam pieces have come loose and fallen off and we have tried to put some back on but they keep falling off. Overall this seems like a very low quality truck bed cover with components that can’t hold up to hardly any use or the outdoor elements. Very disappointed in this product.
I’m very pleased with the fit, finish and ease of installation. A couple of pieces were damaged in shipping and customer service replaced them quickly. The only improvement that I can suggest is a heavier duty box to ship it in.

Was initially impressed with the bed cover. Appearance is great, installation was easy. But after a rain, water pools in the middle of the cover and begins to leak in the middle of the bed. Ive had numerous bed covers (roll up/soft trifold/hard trifold) and they all leak and I understand that it is unavoidable. However, other bed covers have leaked towards the cab or at the tailgate. This one leaks right in the middle of the bed. For the price I cannot and would not recommend this cover to friends/family.
Got the cover quickly. Install was pretty easy but I did read and watch videos before install. My 11 year old grandson, he did most of the work inside the truck bed, and my son assisted. So you know it was a straight forward install. Love the topper.

In 2015, I bought my first BakFlip and transferred it to my second Ram 1500. Here in 2026, I bought my third Ram and decided to get the new BakFlip design and am glad I did. Very easy to install and it took me less than 30 minutes. I love the finished look - like it's from the Ram factory. I like that the folded panels are really secured in place when driving and won't get whipped in the wind plus it leaves room for maximum cargo space. The upgraded cable system for latching and unlatching is another big plus. They really designed a great product and I recommend it over all the others out there. . . well worth the money!

I like the cover especially because it's a hard top. There still is leakage and some parts, like the seal, seem to be fragile. Mines popped off. I have to move it a little to make it lock. If I have to use my whole truck bed, it covers my whole back window. I do like the steak flush look. I like that it easily opens with the pull down. I also like the fact you can close it with the truck bed door open or closed. Overall I like it, but for the price, definitely wish there were some things that were better.

Everything I expected it to be. Same as GMs only less $. I rated medium on value because Im cheap :-). Seriously though, it was easy to install. I did it solo in about 45 min. Followed YouTube instructions from a guy that took the time to video his install. Got to love YouTube. Looks sharp. Has performed as expected. Zero issues. If you have a Sierra EV, get this cover.
While the cover looks good the quality of parts were defective. I had to call for replacement and repair parts twice. The cable to release the lip broke due to poor workmanship. I had to replace the latch myself after only 2 weeks. This is way overpriced for having to fix it myself.
My wife had one of these on her 2010 nissan titan and it was perfect in every way. So when we bought a newer truck (2015 ram 2500) we wanted to get the same cover. Tonneau was shipped quickly, was packed well and had easy instructions. The fitment is perfect and the overall utility is great. I espec6like how it acts as a headache rack when fully up and out of the way. I've had this item for a year now and have had it opened and closed around 30-40 times. The wire for the section closest to the tailgate broke. Inside the latches the wire is looped and crimped on and it slid out of the crimps. So I had to buy new cable and fix it. Works like a charm now. I will say the other stock cables work well and have not broken. Other issue is the clips that hold the seal into the side of the tonneau keep popping out. They pop back in easily but it's definitely annoying and causes the seal to…
I have this cover on a 2021 F250. I work in the construction industry and need to open it often. The corner pieces have fallen off and the coating doesn't hold up to medium use. The seal leak in various places. If this is something you rely on, I would consider other brands.
I love the low profile look of the cover but it leaks in the corners by the cab. I even purchased some silicone putty to fill in the gaps between the bed and the cover, but it still leaks.
I am happy with the product. It works well. My goal was to purchase a more heavy-duty cover, but currently it is not made for the 2026 GMC Sierra AT4 EV. If that ever changes please contact me as I most likely will be interested.
Second fold from rear window needs a latch set. The joint raises and lowers after your speed reaches 70 mph and above. This can lead to water leaks at the joint. Contacted company, but would not fix problem or refund money. They said this is normal function of the cover. This problem is caused by the design of the aerodynamics of the truck with the Cab Air Deflectors. This is different from all other Chevy Trucks.
For the price I paid, I wouldnt buy this cover again. The biggest issue is with the long-bed rails. They come in two pieces, but only include three mounting clips. Because of this, its very difficult to get the rails properly aligned during installation, and they never seem to line up quite right. The adhesive rubber bumpers have already started coming loose after being exposed to warm weather. Lastly, the cover gets extremely hot in direct sunlight. It becomes uncomfortable to touch and makes it painful to open when needed. Overall, Im disappointed. For what this cover costs, I expected better quality and a better-designed product. Now that its installed, I feel stuck with something Im not satisfied with.
The cover went on well but once I installed it, I noticed the clip that holds the strap for locking into place in the folded position, was broken off. I found the broken piece in the packing material. The only real fix would be to send the whole cover back and I needed it for my truck. I guess I should have looked it over more closely when I removed it from the packing.
It's good, but not 100%. The corners on the front have an opening where water can get in, and it's a bit hard to open.
I installed in myself. Took me 5 hours the only struggle I had was reconnecting fuel lines. Only thing was I wish it had the brackets from the fuel pump to where the connectors end.
With the longer bed this cover doesn’t allow you to transport with just one fold. Any suggestions. Also, any suggestions on making it less water resistant?
This is the least weather proof cover Ive ever owned, on top of that it rattles on any pot hole or bump. The only thing this cover has going for it is the appearance.
The clamps don't seat well against the metal behind the cap rail plastic. So, they can't hold straight when closing the cover. I contacted support and they said to send a picture and over a week later I've gotten nothing back after additional email. Pretty disappointed that something so simple couldn't be resolved quickly. I have put backing material in place until they figure it out so I can at least use it. The tailgate seal was also not seated correctly so I had to take it off and reseat it. For such an expensive product they really aren't doing the small parts well.
Love everything about the cover except that it’s too short. It barely covers the edge of the bed at the front and just touches the tailgate. Seems about two to three inches shorter than it should be so it doesn’t keep the water out at the tailgate and it’s not very secure for theft.
The foam was glued together and bed cover looks worn and half of the parts are missing . Took it to a place for an install and they told me this is definitely a used item. Wasted a whole day!

Product is flimsy. You can see light escaping through the cracks from the outside. Plenty of water gets inside. Side trims are always falling off rail. Always looks dirty or faded. Side stands don’t hold up box correctly.
I am very unhappy with the fit. It does not allow the tail gate of my 2026 Nissan frontier to properly close. I have to position it further forward on the bed to make it work. I would not recommend this cover or the company.

I like the appearance and a parent quality of the product, but it would not work on a 25 Nissan frontier the rear latches would not come down enough to latch so I had to return it. customer Service was very helpful and I had no issues so far still waiting on my refund.
It looks unfinished. The rubber molding on the sides creased up were it folds. I gave it some time n the heat to see if it would flatten and it didn’t. The corners by the cab looked unfinished. The installation of the rails was horrible, yes I did it right, and it still didn’t close and lock wo slamming it or lifting on the side rails get it to lock. For the amount of money it cost I expect much better. So I returned mine and went with another brand from another company. And am very happy now. No rubber flap edges. Easy install and locks every time. Yes: the return process was fast and easy, but I’m rating the product.
I’m very disappointed with this product. It leaks at both the front and rear, which defeats the whole purpose of having a bed cover/top in the first place. The instructions were also a major issue. I have a Ram with the RamBox bed, but the instructions provided were for a Chevy 1500. The installation is not the same, and it made the process much more frustrating than it needed to be. Had I known the product would not seal properly and that the correct truck-specific instructions would not be included, I would have chosen a different top. At this point, I honestly wish I could return it.
After making several adjustments to maintain the cover from dismantling, I reached out to customer service but have yet to receive a call.
If you want a cover that does not leak look somewhere else. It has been installed correctly and it's still does not prevent water from entering the bed. . after a good rain the bed as water in it do not keep anything that is valuable in your bed.
First of all, I don’t like to bring bad news, that being said, here it goes. Last year 2022 in may, I received my first MX4, it looked great! I had little trouble with installing it, about 30 mins I’d say. My issue is with the overall durability or thickness the bad cover aluminum, it dents so easily. One hailstorm and it looked like a golf ball. Ugh, that was just having it for a few months. The company was receptive to my concern, and sent me a “fiberglass” one to hopefully correct the issue. The next light hailstorm and it was another golf ball. I’m not sure if they sent me another aluminum one by mistake, or their fiberglass dents vs. cracks? It’s just a lot of money to ruin the look of your otherwise tough looking truck. Sorry Bakflip, you even tried to make it right by sending me another one, and still failed. Makes me feel a little sick.
Looks good, I like that it folds all the way for full bed access. One of the bumpers for when it is fully open blew off. Still leaks water inside. Could probably use to be made a little longer for more coverage over the tail gate. I was expecting better for the money I paid for this thing. I have a cheaper one on a different truck that leaks about the same. I going to try some extra gasket in places and hope for the best.
