Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
How do I open and close the PowertraxPRO MX?
Two key fobs come in the box. Press one and the drive motor pulls the slats forward into the canister or runs them back toward the tailgate. You never have to touch the cover to work it. It will stop and lock anywhere along the tracks, so leaving it part open is fine.
Will rain get into the bed?
Water that lands on the slats leaves through the drainage tubes built into the cover rather than pooling on top. Retrax stops short of calling the cover watertight, so think of the bed as weather protected and not sealed. Gear that must stay bone dry belongs in a closed case.
My truck has a RamBox, CarbonPro bed or deck rail system. Is there a version for me?
Yes. The MX is sold under separate part numbers for Ram trucks with and without RamBox, GM trucks with and without the CarbonPro bed and Toyota trucks with and without a deck rail system. There are also wide rail and stake pocket cut out versions where a truck needs them. Pick the option that matches your bed.
Can I mount a rack on top of the PowertraxPRO MX?
No. The MX has no T-slot rails, so there is no built-in mounting point above the cover for a rack or accessories. If you want that, the PowertraxPRO XR and the Retrax EQ are the electric Retrax covers sold with T-slot rails. Choose the MX when you want the electric cover on its own.
How do I clean and look after the cover?
Wash it with mild soap made for cars and plain water, because strong cleaners void the warranty. Never lubricate the rails or the sealed ball bearings. Clear snow, ice and debris before you open it. Recheck clamp tightness after the first week of driving. If the truck ever has to be towed from the rear, take the cover off first.
Do I have to drill into my truck to install it?
You do not need to drill holes in most beds. Clamps hold the side rails to the bed and the printed guide covers the standard procedure. A few applications, such as RamBox, CarbonPro and Tundra with factory tracks, have their own Retrax sheet, so follow the one matching your part number.
