Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
How does the EZ-OFF removal work and where do I put the cover?
The cover has integrated EZ-OFF lift handles. Release them and the whole cover comes off the truck with a quick click, which Retrax has patented. It stands on its own integrated feet once it is off, so it can wait in the garage, in the truck bed or on the back seat until the oversized load is delivered.
Does the cover have to be fully open or fully closed?
No. Let go of the TraxLatch handle at any point and the cover holds where it is. That lets you uncover only the part of the bed you need, and Retrax notes you can cinch gear between the cover and the tailgate. Make sure the cover and any tether strap are secured before driving, since damage from an unsecured cover is not covered by the warranty.
Will a rack or cross bars fit on it?
The cover is sold with T-slot rails. The manufacturer publishes a T-slot tonneau compatibility guide that lists which rack systems are covered, so confirm your rack appears in it before ordering. If you are not sure, tell us the rack make and model and we will check it for you.
Do I need to drill and how long does the install take?
No drilling. The rails clamp to the factory bed rails with four quick-attaching clamps and the hardware in the box, and the manufacturer rates the job Level 1 at under 60 minutes with minimal tools. Recheck every clamp after about a week of driving and periodically after that, which the warranty conditions require.
My truck has a RamBox, CarbonPro bed or deck rail system. Do I need a different part?
Yes, choose the matching option when you pick your truck. Ram 1500 versions are listed either without a RamBox and without the multifunction tailgate, or with a RamBox and its silver cargo rails. GMC Sierra 1500 versions are split by CarbonPro bed or standard bed, and Toyota Tundra versions with the factory deck rail system have their own part and install sheet.
How do I care for the cover and what does the warranty cover?
Mild automotive soap and water is the only cleaner it should see, and strong chemicals are out. Never lubricate the rails or the sealed ball bearings. Clear snow, ice and loose debris off the slats before you open it. The limited lifetime warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship for the original owner, and the cover has to come off before the truck is towed from the rear.
