How To Measure Your Truck Bed For A Crossover Tool Box

Watch this before you order. UWS shows exactly where to put the tape to get the rail-to-rail measurement that decides whether a crossover box fits, which is the measurement to compare against this box's overall length.

RigidCore Strength Test: Tool Box Vs Pickup Truck

UWS drives a pickup onto a closed box to show what the foam-filled RigidCore lid actually withstands. It is a marketing stunt, but it is a fair demonstration of why a foam-cored lid does not bow in the middle the way a hollow one does.

MicroSeal Weather Test: Tool Box Vs Mud Vs Pressure Washer

UWS packs a closed box with clean rags, buries the outside in mud, then hits it with a pressure washer and opens it up. It is the clearest demonstration of what the MicroSeal gasket on this box is actually doing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Will the EC10112 fit my truck?

Measure the outside-to-outside width across your bed rails just behind the cab and compare it with this box's 55" overall length. The mounting flanges rest on the rails, so you want a rail span a little under 55". The tub is 44" long and 17" wide and has to drop cleanly between the inner rail walls. As a rough guide, 55" suits compact and mid-size trucks. We do not publish year, make and model fitment for these boxes, so measure rather than assume.

How much does the EC10112 actually hold?

6.3ft³. The usable tub is 44" x 17" x 11.75", which is the measurement to check your longest tool or your tool case against. That figure is UWS's own published capacity for this exact model.

Do I have to drill my truck to fit it?

No. The box sits on two supplied rail pads on your bed rails and clamps down with two 3" J-hooks that hook under the rail lip, secured with the supplied washers and nuts. No holes, no cutting, and it comes off again cleanly if you sell the truck. Budget about 20 to 30 minutes and get a second person to help lift it in.

How does it lock, and can I open it from either side?

It uses two keyed stainless steel paddle latches, and two keys are supplied. The handles are joined by a connecting rod that runs inside the box, so you can lock, unlock and open it from the driver's side or the passenger's side without walking around the truck, and the rod is not reachable from outside.

What is the difference between the EC10112 and the freight-shipped version?

Packaging, not product. UWS builds the EC series as the same box in heavier protective packaging so it can travel by parcel carrier instead of on a freight pallet. For you it means doorstep delivery instead of a freight terminal, and no delivery appointment to wait in for.

Is this gloss black or matte black?

Gloss black. It is a deep, reflective powder coat over aluminum, the finish that matches factory black trim and black wheels. UWS also builds a matte black version of several boxes in this range if you would rather have a flat, non-reflective look. Because the substrate is aluminum, a chip cannot start rust.
