Secure Lock is the UWS crossover for people who actually worry about what is in the box. Instead of a handle you can get a bar behind, it uses two twist handles recessed flush into the lid, each one lockable, joined by a connecting rod so the lid still opens from whichever side of the truck you are standing on. The SL-72-LP-BLK is the 72" standard version in a low profile, carrying 8.6ft³ in a tub lined with BedRug, which keeps tools off bare metal, damps the rattle and keeps dust down. The lid is UWS's patented RigidCore foam-filled panel and it closes itself, the shell is extra-thick aluminum in gloss black powder coat, and at 14.5" tall it sits below the cab line on most full-size trucks.
Secure Lock Twist Handles, Lockable Both Sides The handles sit down inside molded pans flush with the lid, so there is very little for a pry bar to grab. Both lock, and a connecting rod ties them together so either side opens the lid once unlocked. That combination is the whole point of the Secure Lock range.
8.6ft³ in a Low-Profile 72" Body Capacity is 8.6ft³, and at 14.5" overall the box sits low enough to stay out of the rear window on most full-size trucks. Low profile is about visibility and looks; you give up a little depth to get it.
Standard Tub, Maximum Usable Length A straight-sided tub 62" long, which gives you the most usable floor of the three shapes UWS offers in this profile. If you carry long items rather than bulky ones, the standard tub is the one to have.
BedRug Lined Tub The tub is lined with BedRug rather than left as bare aluminum. It stops tools sliding and rattling, protects the finish of whatever you put in there, keeps dust down and gives the inside of the box a finished look instead of a raw one.
Patented RigidCore Self-Closing Lid Foam-injected rather than hollow, so the lid carries load across its whole area and does not drum at speed. It is also self-closing, which means it comes down under control rather than being dropped.
Extra-Thick Welded Aluminum Heavy-wall aluminum with welded seams finished in gloss black powder coat, 73" long overall and 20" across, weighing 54.8 lb.
Fitment & Compatibility
Application
Fit
Full-size pickups with a standard bed
✓ Yes if you measure at least 73" rail to rail across the top of the bed
Full-size pickups where rear visibility matters
✓ Yes, the low profile is chosen specifically to stay out of the rear window line
Mid-size pickups
● Measure carefully, 73" rail to rail is wide for most mid-size beds
Beds with a bed rail cap or a rail system
● Usually yes, but the cap changes the effective rail width, so measure over whatever the box will actually sit on
Trucks towing a 5th wheel or gooseneck
● Check the trailer swing arc with the trailer hitched, a crossover sits higher than a dedicated 5th wheel box
Fit guidance: Crossover boxes are sized to the bed rails, not the bed floor, so the measurement that decides fit is rail to rail across the top of the bed at the point the box will sit. This one needs 73" and sits 14.5" tall. Measure your own truck rather than trusting a bed length: rail spacing varies between manufacturers and model generations, and a bed liner or a rail cap changes it again. This box is supplied without a rail: it clamps to the bed rails with J-hooks and rail pads, which is normally a no-drill installation. UWS lists that hardware in its crossover install sheet, but publishes no sheet specific to this part number, so confirm the carton contents on arrival.

Measure rail to rail before the box arrives, not after. Set the box down onto the rails with a blanket underneath if you care about the paint, center it, and check the lid opens fully without hitting the rear window or the cab. Fit the supplied J-hooks and rail pads and tighten evenly from side to side so the box is not pulled out of square. Open and close both Secure Lock handles and confirm the connecting rod releases the latch from either side before you load anything. At 62 lb this is a two-person lift onto the rails.

About UWS
UWS has been building aluminum truck storage since 1997, and today it sits inside the CURT Group under Lippert, alongside CURT towing and Luverne steps. That matters mainly for what it buys you as an owner: a real engineering department, a published warranty, and a parts counter that still stocks handles, cylinders and strikers for boxes sold years ago. UWS builds tool boxes the way a fleet buyer would spec them, out of heavy-wall aluminum with fully welded seams rather than folded and riveted corners.
Two things separate a UWS box from a bargain box on a shelf. The first is the patented RigidCore lid, a foam-injected core that fills the lid cavity so the panel does not oil-can, drum or dish when somebody stands on it. The second is MicroSeal weather stripping, a thick automotive-style seal that runs the full perimeter and keeps dust and water out of the tub on washboard roads and in driving rain. Add stainless hardware, a lock that is actually worth locking and a lid that holds itself open, and you have a box that still works after the winters that finish cheaper boxes.
Prestige Truck is an authorized UWS dealer. Every box we ship is new, factory-packed, covered by the full UWS factory warranty, and backed by a parts supply that means a lost key or a tired handle never turns into a replaced tool box.

This OneUWS 72" Secure Lock Crossover Truck Tool Box, Low Profile, Gloss Black (SL-72-LP-BLK)
A closer look at the low-profile version of the Secure Lock crossover, which is the profile this box is built in.
Useful for judging how far a low-profile box actually sits below the cab line, which is the whole reason to choose one over a standard-profile box.
RigidCore Strength Test: Tool Box Vs. Pickup Truck
UWS drives a pickup onto one of its RigidCore lids.
It is a stunt, but it demonstrates the actual point of a foam-injected lid: the core fills the cavity so the panel spreads load across its whole area instead of dishing in the middle the way a hollow lid does.
How To Measure Your Truck Bed For A Crossover Tool Box
UWS shows where to take the measurement that actually matters, which is rail to rail across the top of the bed rather than the width of the bed floor.
Do this before you order: crossover boxes are sized to the rails, and a box that is too wide simply will not drop in.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
How do I know it will fit my truck?
Measure rail to rail across the top of your bed, at the point where the box will sit. This box needs 73". Do not go by bed length or model year, because rail spacing varies between manufacturers and generations, and a bed liner or rail cap changes it again.
What makes Secure Lock different from a normal crossover?
The handles. Secure Lock uses round twist handles recessed flush into the lid, so there is very little for a pry bar to catch. Both handles lock, and a connecting rod means the lid still opens from either side of the truck once you have unlocked it.
How much does it hold?
8.6ft³. Low-profile boxes trade some depth for staying out of the rear window, so compare that figure against a standard-profile box if capacity matters more to you than sightlines.
What is the BedRug liner for?
It lines the tub instead of leaving bare aluminum. Practically, it stops tools sliding around and rattling, protects both the box and whatever you put in it, and keeps dust down. It also stops the inside of the box looking raw.
Will it block my rear window?
It is the low-profile version at 14.5" tall, which is chosen specifically to sit below the cab line on most full-size trucks. Cab height varies, so if rear visibility is critical to you, measure from your bed rail to the bottom of your rear window and compare.
Is mounting hardware included?
Yes. UWS's crossover install sheet lists two 3" J-hooks, two rail pads, two 1/4" washers and two 1/4" nuts in the carton, along with two keys, which is a no-drill rail mount. UWS does not publish a sheet specific to this part number, so check the carton contents on arrival before you start.

Look is great. 100 lbs
Look is great. 100 lbs lighter than my 2nd pick. Lid lock and opening are smooth. Only minor knock I give is the the tie down hooks are hard to install - thinking I should have done them before installing.

A must have
I really like this mat. I was apprehensive at first but, the mat does a great job of keeping things from sliding around without having to secure it. perfect fit. But i think i will be adding some short screws to secure the mat to the DECKED system.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.

The toolbox is nice. I
The toolbox is nice. I think Ill get a lot of years of service out of it. I like how the lid opens and the tie downs are a nice touch. It seems to be well built. And tough. Im pleased with my purchase and would buy another one.
