Rails that carry what the bed cannot

The XT is the Roll-N-Lock cover you can build on. Both side rails are MaxTrak extrusions with a continuous T-slot machined along the top, so crossbars, rack feet and tie-down knobs bolt into the cover's own structure at any point along the bed, and the deck still retracts underneath them. Roll-N-Lock publishes a T-slot compatibility guide covering the rack systems that fit.

The whole bed, open in seconds

Release the latch and the deck rolls forward along its rails into a canister behind the cab. The entire box opens. There is nothing to lift off, nothing to carry into the garage and no folded stack of panels taking up the front third of the bed. A patented ratchet holds the cover at three points along its travel, so a long load can be carried with the cover parked partway back and locked there.

An aluminum deck, all the way through

The A-Series XT deck is dual-layer aluminum in matte black powder coat, with no vinyl skin over it. The surface you slide a toolbox past, lean a ladder on and scrub clean is metal, and it wears like metal. It is also what the T-slot rails are bolted to, so the rails and the deck are one structure rather than an accessory added on top of a cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Is the aluminum deck stronger than the vinyl M-Series?

It is a harder-wearing surface, which is not quite the same claim. The A-Series XT deck is dual-layer aluminum in matte black powder coat with no vinyl skin over it, so scuffs, grit and cleaning treat it the way they treat any painted metal panel, and there is no fabric top to stretch or discolor. The M-Series XT uses aluminum slats too, but under an industrial-grade vinyl top that gives it a flatter, more seamless look. Roll-N-Lock publishes no load rating for either deck, so neither is a figure you can compare on.

How much bed space does the canister take up?

Roll-N-Lock publishes a canister depth of 7.25 inches across the A-Series XT. That is the space at the front of the bed, against the bulkhead, that the rolled-up deck occupies, and it is there whether the cover is open or closed. If you regularly carry something that fills the box front to back, measure it against your bed length minus roughly seven and a quarter inches before you order.

Can I lock the cover part-way open to haul something tall?

Yes. A patented ratchet-style latching mechanism catches the deck at three points along its travel, and the cover locks at each of them. That means a load standing proud of the bed walls can still be covered from the bulkhead back, rather than forcing the cover fully open. Roll-N-Lock does not publish a load rating for the closed deck, so do not treat the cover itself as a load floor.

Do I have to drill into my truck to install it?

No holes go into the truck. The MaxTrak rails clamp to the bed rails with the hardware in the box and the canister housing sits against the bulkhead. The catch is the bedliner: if your bed has a drop-in plastic liner, that liner has to be cut back with a jig saw and drilled so the canister seats and the drain tubes can pass through. Roll-N-Lock gives the exact cut measurements in each application's installation sheet, linked on that application's page. A spray-in liner or a bare bed needs none of that.

Will rain and snow stay out of my truck bed?

Mostly, but Roll-N-Lock does not call the A-Series XT waterproof and neither will we. Hidden seals shed the weather and integrated channels in the rails feed two drain tubes that carry whatever gets past them out under the truck. In a heavy downpour or at a jet wash you should expect some moisture to find its way in around the edges. Roll-N-Lock's warranty explicitly excludes water intrusion, including leaks in normal use, so treat this as a highly water-resistant cover and keep anything that genuinely must stay dry in a sealed container.

What can I mount on the MaxTrak T-slot rails?

The T-slot runs the full length of both rails and takes standard T-bolt hardware, so crossbars, bed racks, rack feet and tie-down knobs can be anchored anywhere along it. RealTruck publishes a T-slot compatibility guide listing which rack and accessory lines fit these rails and which need an additional kit, and it is linked in the Resources tab on every XT page. Crossbars and racks are not supplied with the cover, and Roll-N-Lock publishes no load rating for the rails, so follow the rack maker's own figure.

Easy install and works great

Very easy to install (only needed a 2nd person at first to lift the container onto the back of the truck). The cover fits well, and appears to be pretty good at keeping the bed dry even in heavy rain.

High Quality Tonneau

Heavy box arrived in good condition. Items were well wrapped and survived the transport just fine. Instructions and video were more than adequate and installation went trouble-free. Great fit. Looks awesome. Works perfect. Protects my stuff. Tailgate opens and closes without issue. The MaxTrak t-slot rails will come in handy for a bed rack in future.

Amazing Product!

The most difficult part of the install is initially pulling the canister out of the box due to the weight. I was able to install by myself in about 20 minutes. The durability of the product is impressive. It feels extremely durable and very premium. I love the look of this cover on my truck. The canister does not take up a lot of room, so there isn't much bed space being sacrificed either. The price tag is a high, however, if you can squeeze the extra money for it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The aluminum cover is very worth it in my opinion. I would highly recommend to others to buy this product.

Happy with results

Looks great and keeps gear protected. Good quality and fairly simple to install. Someone needs to work on the written instructions because they missed a step for the 2022+. Step 14 should include the 22+ model. I screwed around for an hour before I figured it out. Also need to add the use of the spray bottle protectant is to be applied to the tracks periodically. I still gave it a 5-star rating for quality and appearance.

Bed cover

Cover looks great and shipping was very fast. But. The first one was damaged and had to be sent back and finding a place that would take that heavy of an item wasn’t all that easy. Second one also came quick. Customer service is very good but just having to deal with all that was a pain. I was skeptical ordering it because several other complained about damage from delivery so I think that’s something you all need to look at. It say 2 man lift on the box I’ve never seen two men on a fed ex truck so??? The fit at the tailgate is just ok the seal across the tail gait folds under when closing it and it takes a little finagling to get it to seat properly.

My husband loves it

Bought this as a gift for my husband. We were able to install it ourselves and it works exactly as expected. Looks nice on the bed and doesn’t interfere with the tent rack.

Nice cover

This is the third RnL cover I have had. It is a great cover and this one retracts very nicely. Almost to fast. The only glitch is that the rails are ctually about 1/4 inch short. This causes the front bed seal to barely contact the edge of the rail resulting in water leakage when it rains. This was compounded by the fact that the seal was deformed by the packaging in shipping right where it contacts the least. I will need to add some additional foam along that edge.

Easily install but some shipping damage

The box arrived in good shape, just really heavy. When i opened the box, there was a bit of shipping damage. The rear of the pan was bent. Fortunately it's thin aluminum and was easy to straighten. The installation was pretty easy and straightforward but I bit confusing if you have the multi-pro tailgate. The Finnished product looks nice. I'm looking forward to adding racks!

Received condition

Generally and happy with the cover. However, there was some minor damage when the product was unboxed. The most notable was a bent forward flange on the housing, which was "easily" straightened prior to installation. The other issue was a scratch on the passenger side rail that was not detected/noticed until the cover was completely installed. Unfortunately, the need for the cover was immediate versus returning and waiting for a replacement. I did discover that the rails need additional adjustment to remove the "play" in the retractable cover between the side rails at the tailgate as the locked latch(es) disengaged while driving down a moderately bumpy gravel road. I was pleased to learn and receive the rubber housing fin accessory to fortify the forward bed and housing flange overlap after speaking with Roll-N-Lock's Technical Lead Bill S.

Not a fan

I wrongly assumed that the high price tag of this cover meant that it would be really high-quality, but I was wrong. I guess in one respect the aluminum quality is a four out of five for this cover and the locking mechanism is well built. But the unit did come Very dented up in shipping and one of the spring latches on one side did not work right out of the box. RT sent me a new one so that was nice. My biggest complaint about this cover is how not waterproof it is. This thing leaks water from every possible part from the seal at the canister at the cab, to the seal at the tailgate (understandably) to the actual track on both sides being overwhelmed with water and pouring in, and the drain tubes that constantly get clogged and need to be cleared out. If security is your biggest concern and water tightness is not, this is probably a good cover for you. But after only owning this cover for 14 months, I’m about to throw it in the trash and buy something else, probably not a retractable cover. That is after several calls to real truck who offered a little to no support at all in actually solving the problem. At the end of the day, I think it’s a poorly designed cover in terms of being watertight.

A bit hard to install

I bought this for my 2024 F-150 and the measurement sensitivity makes this process fairly challenging. I would also say that things shifted enough that the gap became too large again causing the cover to retract. I ultimately had to put some spacers in but there is no easy way to do that either. Functionally it is a solid cover.

Disappointment - Took 5 weeks and

Very disappointed. Took 5 weeks and many calls to find out they could not provide a shipping date so I canceled the order. Love the Roll n Lock I bought from a local distributer.

Arrived Damaged.... Twice

As the title says, the cover arrived damaged. Huge dent in the cylinder and on the cylinder cover. Customer service was great and they sent a replacement out the next day. The second one arrived with IDENTICAL damage. Again, customer service was responsive and sent me return labels for both and promptly issued a refund. I offered that I had worked in parcel logistics for 30+ years and that I suspected that the damage was occurring at their warehouse during the process of banding the box. The damage was directly under the banding in both cases and identical in nature. Would be pretty rare for the exact same damage to occur in transit.... They didn't seem to care about that. It's a shame.
