Fifth Wheel Hitches

Companion and Patriot

• Companion: sets over a factory puck system or into a gooseneck hitch and locks in with latch handles and pins. The Companion 25K for 2020-2026 GM pucks is rated for 25,000 lb GTW and 6,250 lb pin weight, with six pivot positions that set coupler height from 17" to 19".
• Companion slider: a sliding base, such as the 20K slider, that moves the hitch back for cab clearance on short beds.
• Patriot: a rail-mounted hitch for industry-standard fifth wheel rails, sold separately. The Patriot 18K is rated for 18,000 lb GTW and 4,500 lb pin weight, with twelve pivot positions from 16" to 19".

B&W machines its jaws to wrap closely around the king pin, which leaves less slop and less banging when you start and stop. Bases and heads are also sold on their own for repairs and swaps. Most fifth wheel hitches here cost about $500 to $1,700.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a slider for a short bed truck?

Often, yes. On a short bed, the trailer's nose can hit the cab in tight turns, and a slider moves the hitch back to make room. See sliding fifth wheel hitches for short beds.

What is pin weight?

It is the downward load a fifth wheel trailer puts on the hitch, often about 15% to 25% of the trailer's weight. Keep it within the hitch rating and your truck's payload, and read tongue weight and pin weight.

Should I use a puck system or rails?

If your truck has a factory puck system, a Companion made for it sets straight in with no rails. Otherwise, use a Companion in a gooseneck hitch or a Patriot on fifth wheel rails.
