The UWS FWB-58-BLK is built for exactly that problem: a 11.25" tall low-profile box that tucks in ahead of the hitch and stays out of the trailer's swing. It carries 6.1ft³ in a 59" long tub, opens from either side of the truck through two stainless lock handles joined by a connecting rod, and lifts on a self-opening lid so you are not holding it up with one hand while you dig with the other. The shell is extra-thick aluminum finished in gloss black powder coat with UWS's patented RigidCore foam-filled lid, and there is integrated tool organization inside. Low Profile for Gooseneck and 5th Wheel Clearance The whole reason this box exists. At 11.25" overall it sits low enough that a 5th wheel trailer can swing through its arc without catching the box, which a standard-profile crossover will not do. If you tow a gooseneck or a 5th wheel, this is the shape you need.

Position the box and then hitch the trailer and swing it through a full turn both ways before you drill anything. That single check is what separates a box that works from one you have to move. Once the position is confirmed, mark through the mounting points and get underneath to verify the drill path clears the fuel tank, brake and fuel lines, the spare tire winch and the wiring. Drill, deburr, treat bare metal on a steel bed and bolt down. At 40 lb this is a two-person lift into a bed.

Will my 5th wheel clear it?
That is the question to answer before you drill, and the specification sheet cannot answer it for you. The box is 11.25" tall, which is low by design, but clearance depends on your trailer's front cap shape and your hitch position. Set the box in place, hitch up, and swing the trailer through a full turn in both directions before you commit.
How much does it hold?
6.1ft³ in a 59" long tub. It is a long shallow box rather than a deep one, which suits chains, straps, blocks and tools more than it suits bulky gear.
Can I open it from both sides?
Yes. There are two stainless lock handles joined by a connecting rod, so either side opens the lid. That matters more than it sounds when the truck is hitched and walking around means going the long way.
Does the lid stay up on its own?

Which finish should I choose?
Bright aluminum is the traditional diamond-plate look and is the most forgiving of scratches, since there is no coating to chip. The black versions, gloss as -BLK and flat as -MB, suit a truck where you want the box to disappear rather than shine. Construction and warranty are identical across all three.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.
