RigidCore Strength Test: Tool Box Vs. Pickup Truck

UWS drives a pickup onto one of its RigidCore lids. It is a stunt, but it demonstrates the actual point of a foam-injected lid: the core fills the cavity so the panel spreads load across its whole area instead of dishing in the middle the way a hollow lid does.

Damage-Free Delivery Guaranteed

This box ships by freight rather than parcel, so it arrives on a truck and you sign for it. UWS explains how it packs and crates boxes for that trip and what to check before you sign the delivery receipt. Inspect the carton at the curb, because noting damage on the paperwork is far easier than chasing it afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Will my 5th wheel clear it?

That is the question to answer before you drill, and the specification sheet cannot answer it for you. The box is 11.25" tall, which is low by design, but clearance depends on your trailer's front cap shape and your hitch position. Set the box in place, hitch up, and swing the trailer through a full turn in both directions before you commit.

How much does it hold?

6.1ft³ in a 59" long tub. It is a long shallow box rather than a deep one, which suits chains, straps, blocks and tools more than it suits bulky gear.

Can I open it from both sides?

Yes. There are two stainless lock handles joined by a connecting rod, so either side opens the lid. That matters more than it sounds when the truck is hitched and walking around means going the long way.

Does the lid stay up on its own?

Yes, it is a self-opening lid, so both hands are free once it is up. The lid is also RigidCore foam-filled, which is what stops it drumming at highway speed and dishing if someone leans on it.

Is mounting hardware included?

It depends on the build, and UWS says so itself. The utility chest install sheet lists a mounting hardware kit in the parts list but footnotes it: not all models include the kit, and you may need to supply your own. Plan on sourcing bolts and check the carton when it lands. Either way, look under the bed before you drill, because the fuel tank, brake and fuel lines and the spare tire winch are all potentially in the way.

Which finish should I choose?

Bright aluminum is the traditional diamond-plate look and is the most forgiving of scratches, since there is no coating to chip. The black versions, gloss as -BLK and flat as -MB, suit a truck where you want the box to disappear rather than shine. Construction and warranty are identical across all three.
