The AMP Research BedStep2 puts a foothold on the side of the truck, behind the cab and ahead of the rear wheel, so you can reach over the bed wall to a toolbox or to cargo that has slid forward without climbing in. A nudge of your foot drops it into place and another folds it back up beneath the bed. The structure is aluminum with stainless steel pivots and self-lubricating joints, and AMP Research rates it to 300 lb. It suits trucks with a crossover toolbox or a bed that fills up toward the cab, where reaching over the side beats walking around to the tailgate.
What's Included:
1x BedStep2 step assembly: aluminum linkage with stainless steel pivots and non-slip pad
Vehicle-specific brackets and hardware
Rivet nuts and drill template (on trucks whose guide uses them)
Features
Reach in from the side The step mounts between the cab and the rear wheel, the one spot on the truck where you can lean over the bed wall and reach the front of the box. It is where a crossover toolbox sits and where cargo ends up after a hard stop.
Rated to 300 lb AMP Research rates the BedStep2 to 300 lb. The number is for a person standing on the step, and the brand asks you to hold the bed rail while you do. The step is not a mount for cargo or a ladder.
Stainless pivots, no grease The step is aluminum and every pivot is stainless steel, which resists the corrosion that seizes cheaper steps. The joints are self-lubricating, so there is nothing to grease and nothing to adjust between installs.
Folds up beneath the bed Press the pad down with your foot and it locks into a usable position; nudge it upward and it swings back under the bed where it rides out of sight. Fold it up every time before you drive.
Configured for either side On most trucks the same part is set up for the driver or passenger side during installation, so the step goes where your toolbox lid or your habits need it. Where AMP Research makes separate driver and passenger parts, the listing title says which one this is.
Brackets made for one truck Every BedStep2 carries brackets drawn for its truck, and the guide for each one lists the exact bolts, drill bits and torque values. Many trucks need holes drilled and rivet nuts set; a handful bolt straight to existing holes. Read the guide for your truck before you decide to do the job yourself.

Fit guidance: Choose your truck to find its BedStep2: fit is set by year, model and in some cases cab, bed length or dual rear wheels, and 2023 and newer Super Duty trucks use separate driver-side and passenger-side parts.
Specifications
Step type: Retractable side bed step, mounted ahead of the rear wheel
Material: Aluminum
Pivots: Stainless steel
Joints: Self-lubricating
Step pad: Non-slip
Finish: Textured black powder coat
Load rating: 300 lb on the step
Warranty: 3-year limited
Installation
Type: Bolt-on with truck-specific brackets · Drilling: required on many trucks, see the guide for yours · Difficulty: professional installation recommended by the manufacturer
Brackets made for the truck fasten the BedStep2 to the frame and to the structure under the bed, and the step assembly is set up for the driver or passenger side before it goes on. On many trucks the guide has you drill the frame or the bed channel and set rivet nuts with the supplied tool, and some call for drill bit sizes that are not in every home toolbox, so check the list before you start. Other trucks bolt up to holes that are already there. Once it is mounted, the step pad is positioned on the linkage and every bolt is brought to the torque the guide specifies. AMP Research recommends professional installation.
Warranty, Shipping & Returns
Warranty. AMP Research warrants the BedStep2 against defects in materials and workmanship for three years from the date of purchase, as long as it was installed per the supplied instructions. The warranty stays with the original purchaser, and it ends if the step is moved to a different vehicle or the truck is sold. Misuse, accident damage, improper installation and modifications are excluded, and removal or reinstallation labor is not reimbursed. Hold on to your receipt, since a claim needs proof of purchase.
Inspect on delivery. Unpack it on arrival and check the step, brackets and every bag of hardware against the guide for your truck before installation day. Report any damage or missing hardware to us straight away so we can put it right before you start.
Returns. Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. If an item arrives damaged, defective or wrong, return shipping is on us. See our Returns & Refunds Policy, or email support@prestigetruck.com with any question.
About AMP Research
AMP Research designs steps for pickups and SUVs and describes strength and reliability as its core values. The company's PowerStep has been sold as a power-retractable running board since 2002, and its manual bed steps bring that fold-away approach to the bed. Every one is covered by AMP Research's limited warranty for the original purchaser.
The BedStep2 is the side-mounted half of AMP Research's pair of bed steps. It sits ahead of the rear wheel for reaching over the bed wall, while the original BedStep hides under the rear bumper for getting into the back of the box. Both are foot-operated and rated to 300 lb. The brand's PowerStep running boards look after the cab doors instead, deploying automatically when a door opens.
AMP Research builds its bed steps around aluminum structures with a textured black powder coat, and the BedStep2 adds stainless steel pivots where corrosion does the most damage. Every step ships with brackets drawn for the truck it is ordered against, and the brand protects its designs with patents.

A side step that hides away
The BedStep2 drops out from under the bed with a nudge of your foot, giving you a solid foothold just ahead of the rear wheel for reaching over the side. Fold it back up and it tucks beneath the bed, out of sight and out of the way.

Stainless pivots, no grease needed
Every pivot is stainless steel and the joints are self-lubricating, so the step keeps swinging freely without regular greasing. Rinse off mud and road salt with mild soap and water.
Reach the front of the bed
A crossover toolbox or a load that has slid toward the cab is awkward to reach from the tailgate. Standing on a step beside the bed, rated to 300 lb, puts it within arm's length without climbing in or stretching over the wheel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
Will one step cover both sides of the truck?
No. The installation guide has you configure the brackets for either the driver or the passenger side, so one assembly serves one side of the truck. If you want a step on each side, plan for one per side, and where AMP Research makes separate driver and passenger parts, the listing title names the side.
Can I use it to reach a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch?
Usually not. The step mounts behind the cab and ahead of the rear wheel, and its position is fixed by the brackets for your truck rather than chosen by you. That spot is ideal for a crossover toolbox or the front of the bed, but it is too far forward to reach a hitch over the rear axle on most trucks. Owners who moved it rearward fabricated their own brackets, which is a modification the warranty does not cover.
Does installation require drilling?
On many trucks, yes. Several guides have you drill the frame or the bed channel and set rivet nuts with the supplied tool, and some call for drill bit sizes that most home toolboxes lack. Others bolt up to existing holes. The guide for your truck is linked on its page with the full tool list, so read it before deciding whether to do the job yourself; AMP Research recommends professional installation.
How solid does it feel underfoot?
It is rated to 300 lb and built from aluminum with stainless steel pivots, but it hangs from brackets at one side of the truck rather than running its full length, so expect a little give when you put your weight on the outer edge. Step onto the center of the pad, hold the bed rail, and recheck the bracket bolts after installation and again after the first few weeks of use.
Will it fit a dually?
It depends on the part. AMP Research makes BedStep2 versions for some dual-rear-wheel trucks and others that exclude them, and the listing title and fitment table say which applies. Check both before ordering for a dually.
Does it need any maintenance?
Very little. The joints are self-lubricating and the pivots are stainless steel, so there is nothing to grease. Rinse mud and road salt off the linkage with mild soap and water, keep waxes and protectants off the pad so it does not get slippery, and always fold the step up before you drive.
