The Long-Form Awning Walkthrough

ARB's nine-minute film on its awning range: how the canvas is cut and sewn, how the extrusions and telescopic legs are put together, and what the awning looks like deployed at a real camp. It is the most detailed look ARB has published at how these awnings are built, and it covers the same parts and construction this component belongs to.

The ARB Story

How a Melbourne driveway operation building bull bars for outback tourers in 1975 became the largest 4x4 accessories maker in the southern hemisphere. Seven minutes filmed by ARB across its own factories and proving grounds, for anyone curious who is behind the gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How bright is the light and how is it powered?

ARB rates the strip at 1,200 lumens, with cool white and amber modes and a water-resistant IP58 digital dimmer. It runs from your vehicle 12V supply through the supplied cable, and there is a cable storage bag for the slack when it is packed.

Why amber as well as white?

Amber attracts far fewer insects than white light and is easier on night vision, so it works as the general camp mode. Cool white is the one you want over a cooking and prep area.

What is the difference between this and the soft case awnings?

This one lives in a powder-coated aluminum housing with shock-cord doors rather than a canvas bag with zippers. It is more robust in the airstream, quicker to deploy, and it has the LED strip built in. It also weighs and costs more, which is the trade.

Will the LED strip stay on the awning when I pack it away?

Yes, that is the point of the design. The light is pre-mounted in an aluminum extrusion and packs down inside the awning every time, so there is nothing to hang up and take down at each camp.

How waterproof is it?

300GSM canvas with welded and heat-taped seams and a 1000mm water-head rating. Seams are the usual failure point on awnings, which is why ARB welds and tapes rather than only stitching them.

What is the warranty?

3 years, unlimited mileage, through ARB North America, which is the term ARB publishes for this part. Fabric is covered for manufacturing defects rather than storm damage or UV wear.
