Pulling a carrier bearing normally means getting a puller under the seating face of the bearing cone, and on a differential that is either awkward or impossible without marking something you did not want to mark. ARB built this tool to work the other way around: three split collars clamp the bearing from outside, and the center screw does the pulling, so nothing has to reach under the cone.

That matters most on an Air Locker install, because the carrier bearing sits right next to the seal surface the locker depends on. Scoring that face during a bearing pull is a mistake you find out about later as a slow air leak. What makes this different from a generic bearing puller?

A conventional puller has to get its jaws under the seating face of the bearing cone. On a differential carrier there is often no room to do that, and forcing it is how seal surfaces get scored. This tool clamps the bearing from the outside with a split collar and pulls from there, so it works in the space you actually have.

Will it work on my differential?

ARB rates it for most automotive differentials, both its own Air Locker centers and OEM centers. Three collar sizes are supplied to cover the common carrier and pinion bearing diameters. It is a size question rather than a vehicle question, so check your bearing OD if you are on something unusual.

Why does the seal face matter so much on an Air Locker?

Because an Air Locker holds air through that area. A scratch that would be cosmetic on an open differential can become a slow leak that makes the locker inconsistent, and diagnosing that after the axle is back together is expensive.

Does it come with a case?

Yes, a durable carry case with a dedicated powder coated parts tray. That is not packaging padding: three loose split collars and a shaft are exactly the sort of thing that goes missing between jobs.

Do I need the rest of the ARB tool range as well?

Not necessarily, but they cover different steps. This tool removes bearings. The shim driver 0770004 seats pre-load shims, the adjuster nut pliers 0770002 set pre-load on adjuster nut axles, and the differential spreader 0770003 opens Salisbury style housings. Which you need depends on the axle in front of you.

Is this a professional tool or something I can use at home?

It is a professional tool and ARB sells it into workshops, but there is nothing stopping a competent home mechanic using it. The real barrier is not the tool, it is that differential setup requires measuring and resetting pre-load and backlash correctly afterwards.
