B&W Turnoverball Maintenance

B&W's maintenance guide for the Turnoverball: greasing the four corners of the square post, keeping the latch spring clean by popping the handle a few times, and freeing a ball that has started to stick. Relevant to the center section in particular, since that is where every moving part lives.

The B&W Story

B&W started in 1987 in a rented garage in Humboldt, Kansas, when Roger Baker and Joe Works began building truck beds and the first Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. This short film tells that story in the founders' own words. The same family of employee-owners still builds every hitch in that Kansas plant today, which is why the company puts its name on a lifetime warranty.

Safety Chains Done Right

B&W's guide to trailer safety chains: how to size them, how to cross them under the coupler, and how much slack is right. Two minutes here is the cheapest insurance in towing, and it applies to every trailer this product will ever pull.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Is this a complete gooseneck hitch?

No. This listing is the center section only, part number GNRC1252, and on its own it will not tow anything. It is one of the two boxes that make up a complete B&W Turnoverball. The complete kit is GNRK1222. To build a hitch from parts you also need the GNRM1222 mounting kit for your truck. If you are buying a hitch rather than replacing or completing one, order the complete kit instead.

Who should buy this part on its own?

Someone replacing the part of a Turnoverball that actually wears: the socket, the ball, the latch pin and the handle all live in the center section. Buying it separately lets you keep frame brackets that are already installed and bolted up under the bed. Someone completing a two box shipment where only the mounting kit arrived is the other case. A first time buyer wants the complete kit.

What is in the box?

The center section with the machined receiver socket, the 2-5/16" gooseneck ball, the 5/8" steel locking pin, the spring loaded latch handle and the safety chain u-bolts. The vehicle specific under-bed frame and brackets are not in this box, they are in the mounting kit.

What trucks does it suit?

The same trucks as GNRK1222: 2022-2026 Toyota Tundra

How much can the finished hitch tow?

Assembled into its complete kit and with the 2-5/16" gooseneck ball fitted, the Turnoverball is rated at 30,000 lb gross trailer weight and 7,500 lb vertical tongue weight. Capacity on a gooseneck always belongs to the ball that is in the socket, so that number goes with the 2-5/16" ball and not with any other. B&W's own position, printed in the Turnoverball owner's manual, is that the hitch is rated to tow what your truck is rated to tow. Look up your truck's GVWR, GCWR and maximum tow rating before you load a trailer, and treat the hitch numbers as a ceiling you work under rather than a target.

Why is the weight on this page different from the number B&W prints?

B&W quotes the weight of this part as it sits inside the complete kit, which is about 39 lb. The packed carton it ships in weighs about 39 lb. We publish the shipping weight because that is what turns up on your dock. Both numbers describe the same part.
