BackRack Safety Headache Rack: Black Safety headache rack with mesh screen mounted at the front of a red pickup bed.

Full coverage for the rear glass

Welded mesh shields the whole window, not just part of it. Loose tools, boards and debris stay in the bed instead of reaching the glass.

BackRack Safety Headache Rack: Close-up of a black Safety headache rack with RealTruck lettering mounted behind the cab of a red pickup.

A screen strong enough to tie to

With every wire crossing welded, the grid takes a strap or bungee just like the frame does, so you can secure awkward loads right where they sit.

Built for crews and fleets

On trucks that load and unload all day, the Safety rack puts a full barrier between the cargo and the people in the cab.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Which installation kit do I need?

The Safety frame needs one BackRack installation kit, sold separately. Use the kit table on this page: pick the standard kit for an open bed, a 21" or 31" crossover toolbox kit if you run a toolbox, the low-profile kit to set a toolbox flush with the bed, or a tonneau adapter kit if you have a cover.

Will I have to drill into my truck?

On most late-model trucks the standard and crossover toolbox kits mount with no drilling. The low-profile toolbox kit needs two holes drilled on each side of the bed rail, and trucks without front stake pockets generally need drilling.

Does it work with a tonneau cover?

Yes, with a BackRack tonneau adapter kit. Inside-rail kits suit covers that clamp to the inside lip of the bed, top-of-rail kits suit covers that sit on the rail, and some covers are not compatible, so check the kit table for your truck.

How does the Safety rack differ from the Original?

The Safety rack fills its frame with welded wire mesh for full window coverage, while the Original uses open flat bars. The Safety rack also sits higher above the cab.

Can I mount lights on it?

Yes, with BackRack light brackets sold separately. It offers fewer light mounting positions than the Original because the mesh fills the frame.

Is anything left out of the box?

Yes. The frame and screen come as a rack only. Brackets, stake pocket bolts and hardware are in the installation kit you order separately.
