Description & Fitment
For heavier pins on a Standard pin box, B&W's RVGN3154 carries up to 4,500 lb on the pin and a 25,000 lb trailer. The Standard mounting suits Lippert 1621 and 1621HD plates directly, while Lippert 1116 and 1716 plates add the RVXA3140 shim kit. A SumoSpring takes up road shock between truck and trailer.
Fitment & Compatibility
Check your fit: your RV's pin box mounting plate is one of these: Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin box mounting plates, plus Lippert 1116 and 1716 with the RVXA3140 shim kit; and your loaded pin weight stays within 4,500 lb. Two 42" safety chains with hooks come with the adapter; B&W calls for the 51-1/2" RVXA3141 kit on a Ram HD pickup that has the prep package, or wherever more length is needed.
Not for: the other versions: RVGN3153 (Standard pin box, 3,250 lb max pin weight); RVGN3163 (Rhino pin box, 3,250 lb max pin weight); RVGN3164 (Rhino pin box, 4,500 lb max pin weight). Not included: the RVXA3140 shim kit (needed for Lippert 1116 and 1716 plates) and the RVXA3141 long safety chain kit.
About B&W Trailer Hitches
Roger Baker and Joe Works founded B&W Trailer Hitches in 1987, working out of a garage where they built custom truck beds; the company name comes from their initials. Customers wanted a gooseneck ball that would not sit welded in the middle of the bed, and their answer was the Turnoverball: it mounts beneath the bed, and the ball flips over to stow in the same hole it tows from. Which pin box plates does RVGN3154 fit?
B&W lists Lippert 1621, 1621HD, 1116 and 1716 frame series plates; the 1116 and 1716 need the RVXA3140 shim kit for their 12-1/2" plate spacing.
Is the 4,500 lb pin weight version right for me?
Choose it when your loaded pin weight runs above what the lower-capacity model carries; this version is rated to 4,500 lb. B&W notes the lower pin weight model rides better where it suffices.
Does using it affect my trailer frame warranty?
B&W's answer is no: it engineered and tested the adapter for a smooth, stable ride that lowers stress on both the truck and the trailer.
What upkeep does it need?
Before each trip: look over the bolted connections and grease the ball if it needs it. At 2,500-mile intervals: pump grease into the four articulating joints via the angled fittings until a little shows at the joint ends. Yearly: grease the coupler at its straight fitting, cycle the latch handle several times, then leave it at Couple/Tow.
Will it work in a bed with a recessed box?
In most cases, yes. B&W says the ball needs roughly 5.5" of space from any obstruction so the coupler has room.
How much bed clearance will I have?
B&W puts a typical installation at 6" to 10" of bed clearance.
