- Coupler head only: This is the coupler head alone, with no base. It pins onto the pivot arms of the B&W base from its kit.
- Wrap-around jaws: B&W machines the jaws to fit the king pin closely and wrap around it, leaving no room for slop.
- Cam-action handle: With the handle shut, the cam holds the jaws locked on the king pin; swing it open and the cam moves aside, freeing the jaws to let go when the truck drives forward.
- Fully articulating head: The head sits on polyurethane bushings on the pivot arms and pivots freely, so it follows the trailer as it pitches and rolls.
- The base sets the rating: B&W puts the same head on kits with different ratings, so the base underneath sets the hitch's rating. The kits for your head are listed below.
- Powder-coated, USA-made: Medium gray powder coat, built by B&W in Humboldt, Kansas.

RVC3006 is the Companion coupler head only, with no base. B&W builds it into 15 kits: RVK3050, RVK3300, RVK3305, RVK3370, RVK3405, RVK3500, RVK3550, RVK3600, RVK3670, RVK3700, RVK3705, RVK3710, RVK3715, RVK3770 and RVK3775. Those kits are rated from 20,000 to 25,000 lb GTW, so the base underneath, not the head, sets the hitch's rating. The head carries B&W's machined wrap-around jaws and cam-action handle, and pins onto the base's pivot arms. B&W uses this same head across the whole Companion line.

Not for: Patriot hitches, which use head RVC3200. Not included: the base (sold separately as the RVB part for your kit).
About B&W Trailer Hitches
Roger Baker and Joe Works founded B&W Trailer Hitches in 1987, working out of a garage where they built custom truck beds; the company name comes from their initials. Customers wanted a gooseneck ball that would not sit welded in the middle of the bed, and their answer was the Turnoverball: it mounts beneath the bed, and the ball flips over to stow in the same hole it tows from. The Companion fifth wheel hitch came next and uses the same under-bed mounting.
B&W still builds its hitches in Humboldt, Kansas, from American-made steel, and Joe Works began handing the company to its workers in 2007; today it is employee-owned. B&W counts itself among the few hitch makers still building in America.

Which hitches use RVC3006?

Does it include a base?
No. The head pins onto the pivot arms of the base, and the base for your kit is a separate part.
Why won't the jaws open when I pull the handle?
On uneven ground the king pin can bind slightly in the jaws, which B&W calls normal. With the handle open the jaw tension is released, and the jaws let go as you pull away.
Do I need a lube plate?
No. B&W says the lube disc is up to you; automotive chassis grease on the top plate works too.
How do I take the head off the base?
Pull the two saddle lock pins that hold it to the pivot arms. The head then sits loose and lifts off by the handles on either side, per B&W.
How do I find my truck's towing rating?
B&W suggests your owner's manual first, then your truck dealer or the truck maker's website. Know it before you tow, and stay under the lower of your truck's and your hitch's ratings.

Inspect on delivery
Before you fit the head, work the handle to confirm the jaws lock and release, and grease the pivot-arm bushings with high grade lithium grease as B&W's sheets direct. Check it as soon as it arrives.- Look for crushed ends, punctures or tears in the carton.
- If something looks wrong, take photos of the box and the parts (and if a driver asks you to sign, note the damage on the receipt).
- Open the box and check the parts against the parts list before you install.
