The Companion Flatbed puts B&W's Companion coupler on a short base built for a steel flatbed. It is the same head as the rest of the Companion line, with the same machined wrap-around jaws and the same polyurethane bushings, sitting on legs sized for a flat deck instead of a pickup bed. Rated at 25,000 lb gross trailer weight with 6,250 lb of vertical pin weight, it is the heaviest-rated hitch in the Companion family. Built for steel flatbeds. It uses the same B&W under-bed mounting system as the pickup-bed Companions, so a truck already running a Turnoverball can pull a gooseneck or a fifth wheel from the same hole.

Features
25,000 lb Gross Trailer Weight, 6,250 lb Vertical Pin Weight B&W rates this hitch at 25,000 lb gross trailer weight with 6,250 lb vertical pin weight. Those are the hitch's numbers. What you can actually tow is the lowest of the hitch rating, your truck's own fifth wheel rating on the door jamb, and, on a rail-mounted hitch, the rails underneath it. The coupler head on this hitch, RVC3006, is itself rated to 25,000 lb; on this model the 25,000 lb figure comes from the base, which is why B&W sells 20K and 25K versions of the same-looking hitch.
Machined Wrap-Around Jaws The jaws are 1" thick and they wrap the king pin for full contact all the way round rather than gripping it at two points. That is what stops the chucking you feel through the cab when a loose coupler lets the trailer take up slack every time you lift off. B&W machines the jaws to the pin instead of relying on a wedge.
Cam-Action Handle That Releases on Uneven Ground A cam in the handle takes the bind out of uncoupling. Open the handle and the cam moves aside so the jaws can release as you pull away; close it and the cam blocks the jaw from opening at all. The practical benefit shows up on a sloped campsite, where a conventional handle can jam solid under load.
Shock Absorber and Polyurethane Bushings The whole coupler rides on polyurethane bushings, with a shock absorber taking the side-to-side movement instead of letting it slam. B&W set out to build the smoothest-riding fifth wheel hitch in the industry, and this is the part of the design that does it.
Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel from One System Because this hitch mounts to B&W's under-bed Turnoverball system, the same installation pulls a gooseneck trailer as well: turn the ball back over and hook to a ball, or drop the Companion in and hook to a king pin. One hole in the bed, two kinds of trailer.
Two Pieces, So One Person Can Handle It The coupler lifts off the base without tools by pulling up on the saddle handles. That turns a hitch too heavy to shift in one go into two manageable pieces, which matters every time you take it out of the bed for the week.
Built and Tested in Kansas Made in the USA, built by B&W in Humboldt, Kansas. B&W's own testing goes past what SAE J-2638 asks for: rather than using a fresh sample for each test, it puts a single hitch through all three 300,000-cycle dynamic tests and the six static tests in sequence.

Fit guidance: This is the flatbed base version, built for a steel flatbed rather than a pickup bed, and it needs a B&W Turnoverball under-bed mounting system to attach to. Confirm your deck and frame will take that system before ordering; on a flatbed the mounting is often a fabrication job rather than a bolt-in kit. Those are the hitch's numbers. What you can actually tow is the lowest of the hitch rating, your truck's own fifth wheel rating on the door jamb, and, on a rail-mounted hitch, the rails underneath it.

Installation
Type: Base post drops into the bed hole of a B&W under-bed mounting system, latch and tighten the drawdown bolt · Time: About 15 to 30 minutes once the mounting system is in the truck · Tools: None for the hitch itself beyond the drawdown bolt wrench, plus a second person or a hoist for the lift · Difficulty: Straightforward, but heavy
Work from B&W's RVK3050 installation sheet in the Resources tab. The assembled hitch is about 119 lb, so lift it in two pieces: the coupler comes off the base by pulling up on both saddle handles, and each half is manageable on its own. Grease the polyurethane bushings on the pivot arms before setting the coupler down, check the pins and hairpins are all home, and do a pull test with the trailer wheels chocked and the landing gear down before you take it on the road.

About B&W Trailer Hitches
B&W Trailer Hitches started in a Humboldt, Kansas garage in 1987, when Roger Baker and Joe Works were building custom truck beds and wanted a gooseneck hitch that did not leave a ball standing up in the bed the other six days of the week. Their answer was the Turnoverball, a ball that flips over and stows flush with the bed floor, and it is still the product the company is best known for. B&W has built hitches in Humboldt ever since and is one of the last hitch makers still manufacturing in the United States.
The company has been 100% employee-owned since 2007, with roughly 500 employee-owners who have a stake in what they build. That shows up in how B&W tests. SAE J-2638 is only a recommended practice for gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches, and where the standard would allow a separate sample for each test, B&W puts a single hitch through all three 300,000-cycle dynamic tests and the six static tests, one after another. The Tow & Stow receiver line is tested to SAE J-684.
Prestige Truck is an authorized B&W Trailer Hitches dealer. Every hitch we ship is new, factory-packed, covered by the full B&W factory warranty, and supported by B&W's own service team in Humboldt, Kansas.
Companion Features
A run through the design details that separate the Companion from a budget fifth wheel hitch: the wrap-around jaws, the shock absorber, the polyurethane bushings and the two-piece design that lets one person carry it out of the bed in halves.
Worth watching before you compare it against a cheaper hitch, because most of what separates them is in these details rather than in the tow rating.
How The Companion Jaws Work
A close look at the 1" thick jaws closing around a king pin.
This is the part of the hitch that decides whether you get a quiet ride or a chucking one, because the jaws are machined to the pin rather than wedged against it.
Why The Companion Rides Smooth
B&W's explanation of the shock absorber and the polyurethane bushings, and what they do to the jerk you feel through the truck when a trailer starts and stops behind you.
Watch it if chucking on a previous fifth wheel is what sent you looking for a new hitch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
How much can it tow?
B&W rates it at 25,000 lb gross trailer weight with 6,250 lb vertical pin weight. Those are the hitch's numbers. What you can actually tow is the lowest of the hitch rating, your truck's own fifth wheel rating on the door jamb, and, on a rail-mounted hitch, the rails underneath it. Pin weight is the part people forget: a fifth wheel puts roughly 20% of the trailer's weight straight down onto the truck, so check that figure against your truck's payload as well as its tow rating.
What do I need in the truck before this will mount?
You need a steel flatbed with a B&W Turnoverball under-bed mounting system installed. The under-bed system is vehicle-specific and sold separately as a GNRK kit for your year, make and model. Order it with the hitch if the truck does not already have one.
Do I need the sliding version instead?
It depends on your bed length and your trailer's nose. On a short-bed truck a fifth wheel trailer can swing its front corner into the back of the cab in a tight turn, and a sliding base is the fix. Measure from the king pin to the widest point at the front of the trailer, and compare that to the distance from the hitch to the cab. B&W has a film on working this out in the videos on this page.
How heavy is it, and can I get it in and out on my own?
It ships at about 119 lb, which is more than most people want to lift in one go. The design accounts for that: the coupler lifts off the base by pulling up on the two saddle handles, with no tools, so you move it in two pieces. Most owners take the coupler out and leave the base in, or take both out for a completely clear bed.
What maintenance does it need?
Grease the saddle through the grease zerk about every six months so the coupler keeps pivoting freely, keep the jaws greased with a multi-purpose chassis grease, and either grease the top face of the coupler or run a nylon lube plate on it. Check the pinned and bolted connections before every tow and look for cracks or damage. That is the whole routine.
Why buy this over a rail-mounted hitch?
The bed. A rail-mounted hitch leaves two rails bolted through your bed floor for as long as you own the truck. This one lifts out and leaves the floor flat, which is the difference between a truck that tows and a truck that also hauls. Rail hitches are cheaper, and B&W builds those too as the Patriot line if that trade suits you better.

Look is great. 100 lbs
Look is great. 100 lbs lighter than my 2nd pick. Lid lock and opening are smooth. Only minor knock I give is the the tie down hooks are hard to install - thinking I should have done them before installing.

A must have
I really like this mat. I was apprehensive at first but, the mat does a great job of keeping things from sliding around without having to secure it. perfect fit. But i think i will be adding some short screws to secure the mat to the DECKED system.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.

The toolbox is nice. I
The toolbox is nice. I think Ill get a lot of years of service out of it. I like how the lid opens and the tie downs are a nice touch. It seems to be well built. And tough. Im pleased with my purchase and would buy another one.
