GNC4250 is the B&W Defender Locking Gooseneck Coupler: a cone-shaped, self-latching coupler with a push-button keyed lock built in. It mounts in a 4" round trailer sleeve, takes a 2-5/16" ball and B&W rates it at 25,000 lb GTW with 7,500 lb VTW.
Fitment & Compatibility
Check your fit: your trailer has a round gooseneck sleeve with a 4" inside diameter and you tow on an SAE 2-5/16" ball.
Not for: other ball sizes; trailer tubes that are not 4" round inside.
About B&W Trailer Hitches
Roger Baker and Joe Works founded B&W Trailer Hitches in 1987, working out of a garage where they built custom truck beds; the company name comes from their initials. Customers wanted a gooseneck ball that would not sit welded in the middle of the bed, and their answer was the Turnoverball: it mounts beneath the bed, and the ball flips over to stow in the same hole it tows from. Installation
Here's the short version. Follow B&W's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.
- Two people are needed: one holds the coupler while the other secures it.
- Check compatibility: an SAE 2-5/16" ball (2.283-2.313" diameter) and a 4" inside-diameter round trailer sleeve with at least one set bolt and jam nut plus a through pin, or two set bolts with jam nuts.
- Drill a 7/8" through hole in the coupler sleeve if necessary, keeping the coupler on the trailer centerline.
- With the trailer jacks set to the towing position, measure and mark where the coupler must sit in the sleeve.
- Slide the coupler in, line the sleeve hole up with the nearest coupler through-pin hole, fit the pin and torque the sleeve set bolts to 125 lbs (as printed).
- Lower the trailer onto the ball and check the coupler is latched before towing.

Inspect on delivery
Before your first tow, confirm the trailer sleeve is 4" round inside with the set bolts and jam nuts B&W's sheet calls for, and check the coupler has latched after you lower the trailer. Check it as soon as it arrives.- Look for crushed ends, punctures or tears in the carton.
- If something looks wrong, take photos of the box and the parts (and if a driver asks you to sign, note the damage on the receipt).
- Open the box and check the parts against the parts list before you install.
