Roger Baker and Joe Works founded B&W Trailer Hitches in 1987, working out of a garage where they built custom truck beds; the company name comes from their initials. Installation
Here's the short version. Follow B&W's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.
- Remove the spare tire, clear any non-structural brackets under the rear of the frame that would interfere, and make sure the frame is clean where the hitch mounts.
- Assemble the side plates to the hitch center section as shown in the main diagram; do not fully tighten yet.
- Put the bolts and washers for the rearward side-plate slots up into the existing frame holes so the threads point down.
- Lift the hitch so the side-plate ears sit over those bolts, hand-tighten the washers and nuts, fit the rest of the hardware and center the hitch with the receiver tube parallel to the truck.
- Tighten the frame-to-side-plate connections first (80 ft-lbs), then line up the center-section brackets with the side plates and torque those to 80 ft-lbs.
- Mount the included trailer-plug bracket with its two self-tapping screws if the truck has no place for the plug, then refit the spare tire.
