Features

  • IR rotating bushings: TeraFlex IR bushings rotate freely for unrestricted flex while still damping noise and vibration.
  • Less bind at full flex: Free rotation takes the twisting load off the bushing, so the arm binds less as the axle articulates.
  • Adjustable length: Alpine arms adjust in length, so you can set them to the measurements in TeraFlex's instructions and dial in the alignment.
  • 42mm x 4mm wall DOM tube: TeraFlex builds the short arms from 42mm DOM tubing with a 4mm wall, sized for rocks and hard use.
  • Bolts to the factory mounts: No welding needed: the arms bolt to the factory control arm brackets.
  • Rated for 0-4.5" of lift: Made for the Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT with up to 4.5" of lift; TeraFlex requires an alignment afterward.

Description & Fitment

TeraFlex makes the Alpine IR short control arm kit, part 1416550, to fit the 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL and 2020-2026 Jeep Gladiator JT. You get the front lower arms, and every arm carries TeraFlex IR rotating bushings. It bolts to the factory mounts and is rated for 0-4.5" of lift. The same front arms fit both the JL and the JT. TeraFlex's instructions name the front lowers as the arms to change first when correcting caster and pinion angle. Coil springs, shocks and track bars are sold separately, and the Jeep needs an alignment when the arms are on.

About TeraFlex

TERAFLEX.

TeraFlex describes itself as a Jeep company at heart, started and staffed by people who drive them. It designs, engineers and builds suspension systems, shocks, axles and performance parts, with the Wrangler and Gladiator at the center of the range.

The company traces its roots to the 1950s and MEPCO (Military Equipment Parts Company), an early supplier of Jeep parts. TeraFlex Manufacturing followed in 1996 to build heavy-duty suspension for the TJ Wrangler, and today's catalog runs from full lift systems and the Falcon shock line to axles, steering and armor.

Authorized TeraFlex dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized TeraFlex dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine TeraFlex. In TeraFlex's words, its limited warranty extends "only to the consumer who originally purchased the product," so keep your receipt with your build records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL and 2020-2026 Jeep Gladiator JT?

Yes, if your Jeep matches the fitment table and sits within 0-4.5" of lift. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.

What length do I set the arms to?

TeraFlex's instructions list starting lengths by position and lift height. Set the arms to those, then have the Jeep aligned.

Do I need new control arms after a lift?

Lifting a Jeep changes caster and pinion angle. TeraFlex sizes each kit for a lift range: preset Sport arms and Sport frame brackets suit moderate lifts, while adjustable Alpine arms let you set the length for your exact height. Plan on an alignment after any control arm change.

What is the difference between Alpine and Alpine IR?

Both are adjustable-length arms. Alpine arms use maintenance-free factory-style bushings; Alpine IR arms use TeraFlex IR (Independent Rotation) bushings, which rotate freely so the arm binds less as the suspension flexes.

Short arms or long arms?

Short arms bolt to the factory mounts and TeraFlex rates them for 0-4.5" of lift. Long arm kits are for JL Wranglers with 3-6" of lift and need the factory control arm brackets cut off the frame to fit the long arm brackets, so they are a much bigger job.

Can I replace just one pair?

Yes. Arms are sold by position as well as in 8-arm kits. TeraFlex's instructions say that if you replace a single pair to correct caster and pinion angle, it recommends the lower arms.

Afterwardalignment required

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.

  1. Work with all four tires on the ground if you can (if you raise the Jeep, use the factory service manual lifting points) and never remove more than two control arms at a time.
  2. Remove the sway bar link bolts at the axle and swap the front lower shock bolts with the lower sway bar link bolts (the shock bolts are slightly too long and touch the Alpine arm); torque the sway bar link bolts to 59 ft-lbs and the lower shock bolts to 74 ft-lbs as printed (p5).
  3. Remove and discard the brake line brackets on the arms, then remove the frame-side and axle-side lower control arm bolts.
  4. Bolt the fixed end of the Alpine arm to the frame with the sticker facing out, finger-tight.
  5. Loosen the clamp, extend the arm to the recommended starting length (chart, p11), bolt it into the axle mount and torque the 8mm clamp bolts to 30 ft-lbs as printed.
  6. Torque the control arm bolts last (103 ft-lbs + 145° as printed, p6): with standard Alpine bushings set the Jeep back on the ground first; arms with Alpine IR bushings can be torqued with the Jeep in the air.

Worth the Money

Bought after hearing so many great things about the IR bushings and their longevity, could definitely see more flex opposed to using stock arms. For anyone running under 4.5" of lift, this is the way to go.

Installed on 2020 Jeep 4d Rubicon

Installed on 2020 Jeep 4d Rubicon with a TeraFlex 3.5 inch lift. Completed install in my driveway with jack stands. It was a little difficult to torque the nuts due to body position. Otherwise, all parts fit perfectly, no issues at all. Product is very well made and allowed me to adjust the pinion angel and wheel base. The instructions were pretty good as well. I would have preferred to know the end torque value rather than torque plus add degrees (i.e. 74ft lbs + 185 degrees).
