Features
9,000 lb in a 54 lb Winch
This is the number that defines the 9.0Rc. Most 9,000 lb winches weigh 75 lb or more; this one weighs 54 lb, which on a competition buggy is a meaningful chunk of front-end weight not being carried. The short drum is where most of that saving comes from, and it also makes the winch far shorter overall than a truck unit.
Short-Drum Design, 2.75" x 4.75"
A short, narrow drum keeps the whole winch compact at 16.8" long, which is what lets it tuck inside a competition bumper or a tight buggy nose where a full-length winch simply will not go. It carries 50' of rope, which is the length a rock-crawling course actually needs.
Exclusive Multi-Segment Cam-Actuated Brake
This is the 9.0Rc's real party trick. Instead of the automatic cone brake used across Warn's truck line, it runs a multi-segment cam-actuated brake that gives positive, progressive operator control while winching. On a technical climb where you are modulating the line rather than just reeling it in, that feel is the difference between placing the vehicle and dragging it.
4.8 hp Series-Wound Motor
The largest motor in the batch relative to winch size, geared 216:1 through a three-stage planetary. That combination is why the 9.0Rc has fast line speeds for its class, which matters when a competition run is against the clock.
Synthetic Rope, Aluminum Hawse and a Swivel Hook
50' of 3/8" synthetic rope through a polished aluminum hawse fairlead, terminating in a rugged 360 degree swivel hook and thimble. The swivel is not a detail: on a rock course the line takes load from angles a fixed hook fights against. A Ballistic Nylon sliding sleeve protects the rope where it drags.
Extreme-Duty Sealing and a Gloss Red Finish
Chromate undercoating beneath high-gloss red paint for corrosion resistance, with extreme-duty sealing to keep water and grit out of the motor and gear train. Competition rigs live in water and silt, and this winch is built on that assumption.
6" x 4.5" Bolt Pattern, Not the Standard 10" x 4.5"
Worth reading twice if you are cross-shopping. The 9.0Rc uses a 6" x 4.5" mounting bolt pattern, not the industry-standard 10" x 4.5" that every other winch here uses. Your mount has to be made for it. That is the price of the short frame, and it is the single most important thing to check before you order.

Fit guidance: This is a universal-fit winch, but with one hard constraint the rest of the Warn line does not have: it mounts on a 6" x 4.5" bolt pattern, not the industry-standard 10" x 4.5". A standard winch plate or winch-ready bumper will NOT accept it without a purpose-made adapter or mount. Confirm your mount is specified for the 9.0Rc or 9.0R before ordering. On capacity, the usual rule applies: a rated pull of at least 1.5 times gross vehicle weight, which puts 9,000 lb at home on vehicles up to roughly 6,000 lb. Also plan around the 50' rope, which is short by truck-winch standards and assumes a course rather than a highway recovery.

Installation

Check the bolt pattern before anything else: 6" x 4.5", not the standard 10" x 4.5". Bolt the winch down and torque to Warn's spec, then fit the polished aluminum hawse so the rope runs through it without touching an edge, and check the aperture for burrs, because that is what destroys synthetic rope. Position the Ballistic Nylon sliding sleeve where the rope drags. Run the 2 gauge leads to the battery clear of exhaust, steering and suspension travel. Cycle the free-spool clutch and run the winch both directions under no load before the first pull, and get familiar with how the cam-actuated brake feels under load, because it behaves differently from the cone brake on a truck winch.
