Description & Fitment

This gloss black steel saddle box, part 126-5-03, is the full-size standard model from Weather Guard's previous -03 generation. At about 130 lb shipping, it gives you 10.6 ft³ of space in a body that measures 72" L x 20" W x 18" H. Choose it if you want the -03 One Key lock with PowerSync-ready access; the -04 line moved to 1Key UltraLock.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check it fits my truck?

Measure across your bed rails. This box measures 72" L x 20" W x 18" H; compare that length with your bed's outside width at the rails, and check the vehicle list in Fitment.

Will it fit my Colorado or Ranger?

No. This is a 72" full-size box. For mid-size beds, Weather Guard makes 62" crossover boxes such as the 131, 137, 154 and 156.

How does this differ from the -04 box?

The -03 is the previous generation, with the One Key push-button lock and PowerSync-ready access. The current -04 boxes use the 1Key UltraLock instead. Both mount across the rails with the same clamp method on Weather Guard's saddle and cross box manual.

What is PowerSync?

PowerSync is Weather Guard's accessory system for box lighting and remote keyless entry. This box is ready for it; the accessories are sold separately.

Do I have to drill my truck bed?

Usually not. Four clamps hold the box to the rails, and eight slots let you place them around your bed's shape. Through-bolts or J-bolts in an aluminum bed need their holes coated with zinc-rich primer, which is not included.

What if I lose the key?

Record your key code when the box arrives. Weather Guard's manual says there is no way to work the code out later, so the record is what lets you order a replacement key.

Here's the short version. Follow Weather Guard's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.

  1. Code the locks with the supplied keys before first use. Once a lock is coded it cannot be changed, so decide whether all your boxes share one key.
  2. With the truck parked on level ground, set the box on the bed rails and center it with a ruler. Check the cover opens fully without hitting the cab.
  3. Fit a mounting clamp, carriage bolt and fender washer in four of the eight slots, starting at the driver-side front and working clockwise.
  4. The cover may not latch until all four clamps are tight, so finish bolting before you test it.
  5. On an aluminum bed, use the aluminum upfit parts. Prime any drilled holes with zinc-rich primer.
  6. Check the clamps for tightness from time to time.

Very nice toolbox, glad they offer it in this white powder coated steel option, should hopefully last a long time and can't see any reasons why it wouldn't. Opens and closes very smooth, stays water tight, and the locking mechanisms are superior to many other toolbox brands. Has a lot of space inside and even came with a couple extra things like a bolt/screw organizer and clips to hold a level. The mounting system was very simple yet rugged and solid, and the 2 loops on the front are perfect for strapping down things like gas cans and propane tanks etc. Overall very happy with this product and highly recommend it to anyone willing to spend the extra money for the high quality that it is.

Love the toolbox but..

The toolbox has served me well for the 2 years that I've had it. Overall still in great condition but as i had read in some reviews before i bought it, there seemed to be issues with workmanship. For my unit, the welds were not ground down at all on the outsides of the box, which when i first got it, thought nothing of it. But about 1.5 years into owning it I started to notice rust forming from underneath the paint from those areas with bulging welds, more specifically on both front edges of the box were the lock buttons are. I guess this is bound to happen over time, but it seems those bulging welds that were not ground down only increased the speed of the rust forming. Since they are not flat & uniform. Anyways overall, i still like it, but may go for a higher end toolbox in the future if i continue to see more rust from underneath the paint which is is impossible to detect before…

Solid box, questionable workmanship!

I am happy with the design of the box, solid and secure. However, the quality control and workmanship are equal to overseas at best. You will see in the photos, incomplete powder coat coverage. Poor or in-completed prep work before the powder coat, and tasks completely missed. Sure, these are not major issues, but this is a premium priced box, and therefore judged as such. Would I recommend Weatherguard? Yes, but with a word of caution. American design, Overseas build quality!

Fit and finish is ok as some spots were not consistent with powder coating. Also, I would have liked a little thicker material. That's why I give it a 4 stars and not the 5. I'm out.

Nearly perfect

The quality of this box is second to none. It is well built and the tray layout is very efficient. Two things I see that prevent this from being 5 stars. First the mounting brackets need to be wider to offer an more secure fit on trucks with plastic rail covers. They work but are not as secure as I would prefer. Second for a box that costs as much as this one does they should include a plug kit for the mounting bolt holes. For those of us in rainy climates water does get in the box through the holes. Duct tape fixed it for me but it is an engineering oversight in my opinion.
