Features

  • Welded airfoil: A wind deflector is welded across the front, over the cab, so the rack cuts through the air with less drag and noise on the highway.
  • No-drill clamp mount: The rack holds on with stake-pocket brackets and heavy clamps on the bed rails, not bolts through the bed. A kit that uses the rear stake pockets on 2016 and newer Chevy and GMC pickups comes in the box.
  • Tie-down loops: Every leg carries its own tie-down loop, so straps for ladders, pipe and lumber have a solid anchor at each corner.
  • Rear handle bars: Grab bars at the back of the rack give you a handhold when you climb up to load or step down off the truck.
  • Pinned rear cross member: The rear cross member is held by pins. Pull them and the bar lifts off, leaving the back open when a tall or bulky load has to go in the bed.
  • Adjustable front legs: The front legs slide to suit the length of your bed, which is how one rack covers several bed sizes within its truck class.

It weighs 217.5 lb and spans 154.08" L x 76.51" W x 34.9" H once assembled, with the same pinned rear bar, adjustable front legs and front airfoil as the lighter racks.

Check your fit: Weather Guard pitches this rack at 250/2500-series and larger full-size trucks (Ram 2500 and 3500, Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty, Silverado and Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD). The front legs adjust for bed length.

Not for: compact and mid-size pickups (1345-52-02 (compact, 1,000 lb)). For a half-ton truck, Weather Guard's 1275-52-02 (full-size, 1,000 lb) is its full-size rack. The 1290-52-01 cross member is made for the 1275-52-02 only, not this rack.

Will it fit my Ram 2500?

Yes. Ram 2500 and 3500 are on our fitment list, and Weather Guard aims this rack at 2500-series and larger trucks. Slide the front legs to suit your bed.

Why pick this over the 1275-52-02?

Capacity. This rack is rated for 1,700 lb evenly distributed against 1,000 lb for the 1275-52-02, and it is the heavier rack at 217.5 lb against 160.5 lb.

Do I have to drill my truck?

No. Weather Guard's sheet mounts the rack with brackets that clamp to the bed rail and feed into the stake pockets. On 2016 and newer Chevy and GMC trucks, the included kit uses the rear stake pockets.

What does the load rating mean?

Weather Guard rates each rack for a load spread evenly across it: 1,000 lb for the 1275-52-02 and 1345-52-02, and 1,700 lb for the heavy-duty 1175-52-02. Keep heavy items spread out rather than piled at one point.

How tight do the bolts go?

Weather Guard's sheet calls for 15 ft-lb on the 3/8"-16 button-head bolts and 25 ft-lb on the rest, including the bolts that hold the rack to its feet. After that, check that the rear cross-member pins still pull out.

Will it scratch my ladders?

Weather Guard packs protective tape with the rack. Wrap it around any spot where a ladder or tool could rub while you drive.

Here's the short version. Follow Weather Guard's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.

  1. Run at least two beads of the supplied silicone around every swage on the rack parts before assembly.
  2. Pick the driver and passenger front arms by the biased joint plate, then build each side: rear leg (tie-down outward), front leg, cross members (logo up, facing the tailgate, locking pins at the rear) and the front hoop with the air foil down.
  3. On beds shorter than 8', add the support brackets.
  4. Fit the mounting feet: front feet as far forward as possible, stake-pocket bracket fed in diagonally and snugged, then the no-drill bracket clamped to the bed rail. 2016+ Chevrolet/GMC trucks use the stake-pocket side mount at the rear.
  5. Set the rack to the measured foot spacing. Tighten 3/8"-16 button-head hardware to 15 ft-lb and all other hardware to 25 ft-lb, except the front-leg set screws.
  6. Bolt the rack to the feet at 25 ft-lb (check the rear cross-member pins still pull out), then fully tighten the set screws.

Nice, but could be better

I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I have a 2021 Chevy Colorado diesel. I do think the rack should fit more snugly to the top of the truck for a more streamlined look, but its not all that bad. It would be simple to do, just have down bars for each truck model that are 1-2" taller than the height of the truck cab. it probably could be cut down and welded, but that's a lot of work. It does allow more working area in the bed of the truck and more room for a canopy, if that is wanted. I did have a question though, why don't they include the stake pocket side mount for the front stake pockets? Wouldn't that be more secure? Also, it would be nice if the rack fit on the bed a little better, the front uplegs are about 3 inches from the cab, it should be about two inches from the cab, right over the bed. Currently it is offset, and you can't slide it as the metal mounting pad has a flange that…
