Part 310-3-01 is Weather Guard's aluminum Pack Rat in Brite White ARMOR TUF, a 42" L x 12.25" W x 17.75" H unit that weighs 63 lb. One tall roll-out drawer (39" D x 11.75" W x 14.5" H) carries 225 lb, the top takes 250 lb, and a power pass-through lets you charge tools inside.

Check your fit: this 42" x 12.25" unit is on our fitment list for full-size pickups: Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500 HD and 3500 HD; GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 HD and 3500 HD; Ford F-150 (Lightning included) and F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty; Ram 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 and 3500; Toyota Tundra; Nissan Titan and Titan XD. It needs 42" of floor running toward the tailgate and 12.25" of width, plus room for the drawer to roll out its full 39".

Not for: mid-size pickups, which are not on its fitment list, or an open bed, since Weather Guard lists the 310 as an indoor unit. Steel -04 Pack Rat units: 305, 306, 307, 308, 335, 336, 337, 338, 369, 379 and 3713.

Will it fit a Ram 1500?

The Ram 1500 is on our fitment list for this unit. Measure your floor against the 42" length and 12.25" width, and leave the 39" the drawer needs to roll out.

Can it go in my cargo van?

Weather Guard describes the 310 for truck beds and cargo vans, but our fitment list only covers full-size pickups, so measure your van floor against its 42" x 12.25" footprint before you order.

Do I have to drill my truck?

Yes. Weather Guard's sheet has you mark through the mounting plates in the skids (or the outer slotted holes), drill, and set 5/16-18 blind fasteners before bolting the unit down. You remove the drawer and its front rollers first, then refit them.

Can I stack another unit on top?

Yes. Weather Guard says the units can be stacked for more storage, and page 4 of its installation sheet covers stacking and an alternate rear bracket.

How much weight can it carry?

Weather Guard rates the drawer at 225 lb and the top at 250 lb. Its steel -04 Pack Rat units carry 425 lb in the drawer if you need more.

Is it made for an open truck bed?

Weather Guard lists the 310 as an indoor drawer unit, while its steel -04 Pack Rat units are listed for outdoor use. If the unit will ride in an open bed, the -04 units are the ones rated for it.

Here's the short version. Follow Weather Guard's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.

  1. Open the drawer to its stops, remove the stop brackets (keep them and the bolts), fit the handle, pull the drawer out and lift out the front rollers.
  2. Preferred: set the housing in place, slide a mounting plate into each open end of the front and rear skids (no further than the slot edge) and mark through the holes.
  3. Alternate: mark through the outer slotted holes of each skid instead.
  4. Read the blind fastener cautions, drill the marks and set the blind fasteners, then bolt the plates or skids down.
  5. Refit the drawer and stop brackets. Stacking units and the alternate rear bracket are covered on p4.

    Weather Guard backs this drawer unit with its Limited Lifetime Warranty, issued by Werner Co.: the drawer unit is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for its expected lifetime, counted from the day you buy it.
    • Only the original purchaser is covered, and coverage ends if the drawer unit passes to a new owner.
    • Every claim needs a copy of the original sales receipt, so keep your Prestige Truck order receipt with your records.
    • Werner Co. picks the remedy: it repairs the faulty part or replaces the whole drawer unit at no charge for parts or labor, or it may refund what you paid or issue a credit toward a new Weather Guard product.
    • Not covered: normal wear and tear, cosmetic rust, scratches, accident damage, repairs Werner Co. did not authorize, misuse, overloading, or a drawer unit that was not mounted or used as Weather Guard's written instructions describe. Don't be too harsh on Weather Guard

I used another size of this series in my van and think the other review may be a little harsh. I agree the "deadbolt" latches are a little clumsy, in part because the drawers are well-built (= heavy). One hand to pull open but two to close (push and hold latch button). My two boxes were built correctly, though, and were nice and sturdy (as in walk on and carry cargo on top) for years. I kept them after getting rid of the van. They have an easy life as tool storage in my shop - too long for my current SUV!

Great box

The box works great for all our tools we have a bunch of heavy equipment tools only problem is sometime with that much weight the drawer cocks sideways when piushing it in but other then that great box with plenty of room I had no problem storing tools in every spot unlike the person fussing in the other comment
