Fits the same truck
Sized between the Max and Moto
The V-shaped Sport gives more room than the motorcycle-focused Moto while staying narrower than the extra-wide Max, and AMP Research describes it as the right size for most drivers.
Light frame that lifts out by hand
Aluminum tubes and glass-filled nylon uprights keep the frame light, and with the tailgate open it lifts out of its brackets when you need the whole bed. Its silver or textured black powder coat resists corrosion.
Haul the bike, close the gap
Drop the tailgate and swing the Sport out, and a dirt bike or a stack of lumber has a fence at the end of the bed instead of open air. The V-shaped frame adds up to 2' of length and folds away inside when the load is gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
Do the drilling templates line up with my truck?
Treat them as a starting point. Several owners recommend measuring the bracket position yourself before drilling, and a template printed from the guide must be at actual size to be accurate. Some trucks use existing threaded holes or stamped dimples in the bed pillar, which removes the guesswork, and the guide for your truck says which method it uses.
Can I haul a dirt bike with it?
Yes, carrying dirt bikes and ATVs with the tailgate down is one of the uses AMP Research names for the Sport. The extender keeps the load from rolling off the end, but it is not a tie-down point: strap the bike to the bed's anchors, keep the open tailgate within the 200 lb the guide allows, and load with a ramp rated for the bike.
Will it work under my tonneau cover?
Usually, with a check first. Owners run it under a range of hard and soft covers, and AMP Research makes a spacer kit (74609-01A) for covers whose clamps or rails crowd the brackets, plus a quick-latch bracket kit (74605-01A) that it lists as required on trucks with a tonneau cover or shell. At least one version, the Jeep Gladiator part, is not compatible with tonneau covers at all, so read the notes on your truck's listing.
Do I have to remove the tail lights?
On some trucks. Several guides have you pull the tail lights to reach the back of the bed pillar before drilling, while others mount entirely from inside the bed. The guide for your truck lists the steps. Take your time with the light housings, because their plastic clips break easily.
How fast does it come out of the truck?
Quickly, and without tools. With the tailgate open, raise the extender to about 45 degrees and lift it out of its brackets; reinstall it the same way. Because nothing locks it in place, remove it or cover the bed when you leave the truck somewhere busy.
Should I pick the Sport or the Max?
They share materials, straps and mounting, so the choice comes down to shape. The Sport is a V shape, narrower than the U-shaped Max, and AMP Research positions it as the fit for most drivers. The Max encloses more of the open tailgate for bulky loads. Check that the version you want lists your truck, because neither fits everything.
