Made for the 2010 Dodge 2500 / 3500 (Mega Cab only) and 2011-2012 Ram 2500 / 3500 (Mega Cab only), part 77168-01A is a vehicle-specific PowerStep XL kit. This is the Hard-Wire kit, so the harness connects to the door-signal wires with the supplied connectors instead of an OBD-II module. For a Dodge 2500 that sits high, AMP Research says the XL step lands up to 3" lower than the standard PowerStep. AMP's guide for this Dodge 2500 lists 3-5 hours at skill level 4 of 4, with professional installation recommended.
| Years | Model | Bed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2010 | 2500 | Mega Cab only | |
| 2010 | 3500 | Mega Cab only |
| Years | Model | Bed | Notes |

| 2011-2012 | 2500 | Mega Cab only | |

Check your truck: Match your model year, cab and engine to the fitment table; cab limits are shown per row. Kit: Hard-Wire.
Not for: the Plug-N-Play kit for the 2013-2014 Ram 2500 (77148-01A); the Plug-N-Play kit for the 2013-2017 Ram 2500 (77138-01A); 2010 Dodge 2500, Crew Cab version (77158-01A).
AMP Research calls its PowerStep the original power-retractable running board, made since 2002. Its install guides name AMP Research as the designer and manufacturer.
The PowerStep range covers the standard PowerStep, the PowerStep XL (sits up to 3" lower for lifted trucks), the PowerStep Xtreme (two motors per side for snow, ice and mud), the PowerStep Smart Series (phone app control) and the PowerStep Vision (LED edge lighting). Each kit is made for specific vehicles. AMP Research says newer applications connect through an OBD-II module, which AMP calls Plug-N-Play; kits for many older trucks are hard-wired to the door-signal wires.
Authorized AMP Research dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized AMP Research dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine AMP Research. In AMP Research's words, the warranty "applies to the original purchaser only," and "you must retain proof of purchase and submit a copy with any items returned for warranty work." Your Prestige Truck order receipt is that proof.
Yes, if it matches a row in the fitment table: the table lists 2010 Dodge 2500 / 3500 (Mega Cab only) among 4 rows. Check the cab on your row. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.
Hard-Wire. The harness connects to the truck's door-signal wires with the supplied connectors, as AMP Research's guide shows for your truck. If you want the Plug-N-Play kit for the 2013-2014 Ram 2500, that is part 77148-01A.
AMP Research says the PowerStep XL deploys up to 3" lower than the standard PowerStep. It is built for lifted trucks and taller rides, where the standard step height falls short.
Plug-N-Play kits pick up the door signal through AMP Research's plug-in connection module, which on most trucks plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. Hard-Wire kits tap into the truck's door-signal wires with the supplied connectors. Each listing names its own kit type, and the guide for your truck shows exactly what is involved.
AMP Research recommends professional installation for every PowerStep, though it says experienced DIYers can do it at home with the included vehicle-specific kit and instructions. AMP's guides rate the job level 4 of 4 (experienced) and list 3-5 hours depending on the truck; some trucks need drilling and some cabs need the boards cut to length.
AMP's guide says mud, dirt and salt can get trapped in the mechanism and cause noise, and its maintenance section covers cleaning it out. When you wash the truck, avoid spraying the motors directly; afterwards, apply a silicone spray lubricant to the hinge pivot pins. Don't put silicone, wax or protectants such as Armor All on the step surface.
Here's the short version. Follow AMP Research's install guide (below) for your truck's exact mounting points, wiring and torque settings.

This product not only functions very well, it looks amazing. Creates a nice appearance and works as a rock strip as well. A little bit on the pricey side but well worth it.
Very pleased with my AMP retractable steps.
I ordered the power step for my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 about a mouth ago. It was all shipped and packed. The only problem I had was with the motors of the step. They would work opposite from the door being opened. I looked to see if I had the purple wire backwards but they were correct. I even switched the purple wires but the steps still did not work right. I saw on a forum on line with a guy that flip the wires on the motor plug. I did that cut my wires and flip them. That did the trick, that worked. The only other thing is the logo on the step I have one in the front and the other side the logo is on the back of the step.
I needed to use a video guide for the installation which was easier than how the instructions wanted
The AMP Powerstep XL is a great product. The steps operate without issue, provide easy "step in and out of the car," and look OEM. The added LED lights provide additional illumination to the steps at night or in dark areas and are not obtrusive or "over the top." I had purchased the install option. The price was extremely fair and the shop selected did a more than professional job. There were no issues whatsoever including receiving information as to scheduling and completion of the job. An excellent way to insure that the product purchased is installed properly and operates without problem. The entire experience was first class and I highly recommend both the product and the install service.
I have installed two sets of amp research steps now. One on my wife’s jeep and one on my gladiator. All I can say is awesome product. Easy to install.
Delivery was as promised and installation was easy. Plug and play install that looks great and works perfectly. I love how these steps tuck into their own steel frame. A little more expensive but worth it.
amp steps
The install was straightforward and my wife loves how much easier it is to get in and out of our Jeep. However the fit is less than perfect. The step on the driver side has an uneven gap which I made claim to the manufacturer they are supposed to be sending replacement bracket but it’s been 5 weeks and no replacements parts yet. Secondly these are installed on a Jeep wrangler and now the low point of the vehicle is the step motor by about 2”. Not very happy about this.
Installed these within about 5 hours. So far, I like them. I like the 5 yr, 60K mile warranty.
This is the perfect set of steps for anyone who needs help getting into a jeep Rubicon. They also replace the sliders that came on the Rubicon for protection against damage during off roading. They also look good.
Easy to install, love the rock rail really helps protect rockers. Much easier for my kids and wife to get into leveled truck now (17 F 250). Install was straightforward took about 3.5 hours by myself. I wish the steps would fold down when unlocking truck but i've gotten used to the 1/2 second delay on door open now.
They work great.
These are great, took just under 2 hours to install and they work great! Highly recommend!
I like them more than any other ones
My wife can now get into the Jeep without me having to use a collapsible stepping stool. Wish it dropped a little lower. But overall looks and works great.
Where is the rest of the oder?
Sensors not effective - Can close on your hand or foot. Overpriced for what you get
Awesome, I installed them myself, was straight forward. would recommend to anyone needing power steps with style. 👏
Received but not installed appears everything is in package
These steps allow me to get in and out of my truck with ease!!
These are fantastic running boards. I added them after putting a 6 inch lift on my F150. Not only do they look great, but they make it easier to get in and out of the truck (which my wife appreciates). I installed them myself in about 4 hours with some basic tools. The only downside is that they are s little pricey.
These steps work great on my 2019 f-250 with a 6” lift
Fit my truck perfect
I love my Powerstep on my 2025 Toyota Tundra Platnium. Only snag was getting the wires tapped properly open and close the steps, but technical support was very helpful and we figured out the issue. All works well now!
After having the Powerstep XL installed on my new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I was able to easily enter and exit as if it came with the vehicle. What a difference it made since I have the 35 inch tire package on the jeep. The XL gave me the perfect height for a step. The lights on them are awesome too.
These were great to install. The engineering was superb. The power step fit directly where the original steps were removed, no hassle at all. Just took time. Wiring harness a bit of a challenge for someone that is colorblind. In places where there were lights the, harness was a little long, but better long than being too short. Everything worked as advertised. The XL are for the raised vehicles; if vehicle not raised get the standard length. Could not tell how far the step would come down until installation was completed. Definitely would recommend.
Wiring harness on passenger side is short but everything else is spot on. All in all I love my running boards!
New truck
Got the new AMP XL power running boards on today, about 3 hrs, still have to do the wiring tomorrow. I’m a little disappointed in the height from the new boards to the seat, floorboard. I added these because the factory steps were too high for my wife. These are definitely lower, now I’m concerned because they seem to low making it hard for her to step from running boards to seat. This is my second set I’ve purchased, the first ones worked out great for height.
The PowerStep XL is everything it is advertised to be… Arrived quickly, packaged very well, all parts were included, and installed just like the video showed. I did have to spend a little time to figure out that the driver and passenger rails were labeled backwards… They only go on one way, so after lots of verification, I proceeded. When I first powered up the steps, the entire truck ODB was locked up. I disconnected the battery and then reconnected. Other than that, the install was uneventful and pretty straightforward. Everything works great now!!! As the title says - this is a great upgrade for my Raptor.
This is a great product and the customer service is even better. It arrived fast and had been damaged in shipping so I contacted customer service and in a few days I had all the replacement parts that I needed. I wish all companies were as easy to deal with.
They are out of site normally look like stock rock rails but open a door and they drop down in a heartbeat. My wife and the kids had difficulty entering and exiting but now no problem and they raise to avoid snagging on rocks at terrain.
Great product! Fast delivery! No problems on ordering!
Purchasing the step was easy and it arrived when promised. However, the electric motor did not fit the housing provided. Took multiple calls with promises for call back before I finally reached someone in customer support. Clearly understaffed for the call volume. Once I reached customer support the guy I spoke with was excellent. However the running boards are still sitting in my garage as I await the promised correct housing for the motors. I’d advise not purchasing AMP products as basic quality control processing in their shipping department are absent.
Looks great on my 2024 f350 tremor, and what my wife needed to get in the truck with our struggling.
I purchased them and the steps arrived quicker than expected. I installed them myself in about 3 hours. Instructions were adequate. Installation was pretty easy.
wire harness is an exact fit so make sure you check reach first
I had regular amp steps before but these are far better. They don’t feel flimsy when I step on them and they are really quiet when they deploy and retract.
Great power steps. Very easy to install. For higher pickups work great
Absolutely love the XL power Step. I had an electrical shop install them. They are very complicated and confusing to install by yourself. The instructions are very confusing and frustrating. Once you tap into the electrical system of your vehicle it can be a very risky situation. I highly recommend a professional to install these steps. Don’t go through the headache of dealing with wires and mounting. Just pay an experienced shop that knows what they’re doing. Other than that the Power Steps look and work great. With no thanks to the instructions or directions. I paid to have peace of mind and quality. DON’T INSTALL YOURSELF it is not worth you destroying your electrical system. Your welcome
Nice To Have On My Bronco First Edition But They Don't Come Out Away From The Base Of The Bronco Very Far. I Feel They Could Have Been Designed A Bit Better For That. Its One Thing To Have The Lowest Extension. But Just As Important To Be Able To Get Your Whole Foot On Coming Out Of The Vehicle
The packaging was not good when I received the steps they were out of the box. The installation steps are not very clear and contact information for help would not answer. The steps are great I just wish everything was great
AMP Research Powerstep board is an awesome product. I am 5 foot and getting into my 2 inch lifted jeep on 37’s was Quite challenging.
I am running a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 with an 8in Lift and 37x13.50. Without the Power Steps it was extremely difficult to get in and out of the truck. I had the regular model on my truck prior and loved them. They shipped fast, but the box was damaged when it arrived. I opened up the box and everything was perfectly fine. Not a scratch. They were perfectly protected. Installation was easy, the step by step instructions were very clear and it installed in about 3 hours. I could have done it faster but it was about 17 degrees out so my fingers were not cooperating. I have had zero issues out of them and they are exactly what I needed.
Fit and finish we’re perfect
These are a well thought out kit . Shipping was extremely fast too. Thanks !
As always amp quality is the best. You Get what you pay for when it comes to these kinda steps
Overall I am very happy with the steps, there was a little confusion on the wiring but other than that these things rock!!! Install was a little more involved than I originally thought however it’s easily doable in a full day. The directions could be better however we still got it done
Great product, install was difficult. Instructions were sub par. Two people minimum are needed to properly install.
Easy installation and wiring was straightforward Plenty of wire supplied to route different ways. Steps were expensive but I was betting on the quality. I am hoping they hold up up as they feel solid
The product arrived with damage to the packaging. One entire end was broken open. The hardware bag was open in the box it was packaged and several of the pieces of the hardware were missing There was also a small blemish on the item. I don't know if that was from the damaged package or from the factory. I have photos of the above but I am sure you would place the blame on the shipper. Overall I am satisfied with the product but disappointed in the condition it was received. Fortunately I was able to replace the missing hardware out of my own stock at my garage but it is something I shouldn't have to do.
I installed on a 24 GMC AT4. During the installation process I had 3 challenges, two minor and one very frustrating. First make sure and bolt up the drive motors to the rear of the step. Second, I ended up wrapping the control module for extra protection and placing it between the battery and quarter fender as I had no room between the battery and firewall as indicated in the instructions. The main problem was when I open the doors the steps folded in the stored position and closed the doors the steps deployed. It took quite some time to learn that the pre-made wire harness was wired wrong. I rewired the two motor plugs and wah-law. Happy Camper! I like the high ground clearance and they look as good as the factory AT4 running boards, with a step that is usable.
This is my third set of amp steps and have installed all myself. AMP steps are great but the wiring harness for the gladiator is terrible. Drivers side wires are way too short. This is mentioned numerous times on gladiator forums. AMP really needs to address this issue.
The instructions are a couple of Hieroglyphs with text that may or may not relate. I've been building Jeeps since I was old enough to hold wrenches and consider myself fairly adept at figuring things out and getting things done correctly but these instructions tested my patience and ability. It's all little issues that cause major confusion such as several bolt references by number are incorrect (use the bolt naming); the image showing the wedge adapter for the far back bracket is less than clear and ignore the early instructions on mounting the motor to the linkage assembly, you'll need to do that after the linkage is bolted in. Warning: do NOT rely on the videos from the company, it only shows the ODB2 connection, which is not the case with the JKU, it is hardwired into the Jeep loom. And the mounting is different between the company's example F150 Raptor and a Jeep JKU. Close but…
My Jeep has a small life which made it very difficult for my parents to get into the car. I carried a step stool to help them get in which I no longer need. I leveraged the professional installation which was perfectly done. I'm very happy with the look and convenience of the running boards
Work great and help get in and out of jeep. Take your time putting them on and have someone help you will make it much easier.
I can’t give it 5 stars because it was an open box …… it seems the previous customer ran into issues installing them … the motors where literally in pieces and minor scuff’s on the rails and steps … but overall I installed them myself with care took about 6 hrs and I would say they where worth the money and worked perfectly when I was complete
I am more than satisfied with these. The estimated install time was pretty much spot on for our first automatic running board install. They work flawlessly and look great.
sweet side step looks like came factory on JT really strong motors slightly loud when they operate but work well led lights nice and bright slight blue color
Installed by myself, would recommend two people to help hold in place. Watch the video on YouTube, no instructions in box. The allen head bolts that attach the step to the brackets takes a 4.5mm allen wrench (not a common size). Check motor bracket location carefully they look the same but there not. I had to switch driver and passenger side after installed because the steps would go down when door closed and up when door opened
Easy to order and get installed! Great compliment to my Rubicon!
I wasn't sure about ordering these steps mainly due to the expense because they aren't cheap. But I have to say Im glad i bought these they are heavy duty.
although it is entertaining to watch old people trying to get into my gladiator(my wife and I and all our friends are 70 or older),I went ahead and bought the amp xl power step to make it easier and boy it dose! we love them!!one word of advise, also purchase the amp 3 way switch so you can pick what position the step stays in,very handy!
We put the AMP Extreme power step on our F350 that has a 4” lift. My wife has multiple sclerosis and was having a difficult time getting in and out when we took the truck places. That extra 3” drop has really helped her getting in and out of the truck. We both love them, plus it makes the truck look really good vs the previous running boards. My 16 year old son and I installed the steps in about 6 hours. Most difficult part was finding the right wire in the trucks wiring loom and running the wires. The directions included with the boards are easy to follow. If you have mechanical abilities it isn’t too difficult to install yourself. Great product, I hope to get many years of trouble free service from it.
Beautiful but yeah very heavy metal material and work Great for your Elders
Love the new steps. They look great. Work great and very helpful with getting in and out of the jeep. The only problem is when you get to the part of connecting the wires. Directions aren’t as clear or as descriptive as they should be/could be. Had to go online to get walked through the process. Otherwise running and connecting the harness wasn’t an issue. I do like that you can make them stay down when needed, such as washing the vehicle. Overall very satisfied.
Great service. Great product. Would recommend them
Looks good due to handtcap had shop install. The said except for having to swap some wiring it went well
Well worth the money!!! Its a little bit of a chore to install by your self but it can be done
10/10 Definitely recommend. Install was not anywhere as difficult as expected. Only complaints are they don't come down as far as I expected for the XL version. Also the Led light color for the steps is more of a blue and doesn't exactly match the factory led puddle light color.
my wife loves them and so do i. truck was way too high for her to get in and out and now it is easy and safe!!!!
These were perfect! The extra 3 inches with the xl is well worth it. My wife has a bad hip and this was just the trick for her to get in easily! The lighted steps look awesome at night! However be prepared for a long day to install. But the instructions covered everything! BTW this is the only power running board that I have found that works on the ecodiesel! Others have issues with the positioning of the DEF tank.
I bought these for my Gladiator (open box item). They were dented pretty good but that was disclosed in the description. A little bending and they were fine. Everything worked immediately after plugging them in. But I would not recommend doing this yourself. Not for the faint of heart, and will take awhile. 5-6 hours easy. Its not like putting on normal rails... the electronics piece really takes more time than I would have expected.
Love the new step. If anyone is considering a new drop step but uncertain which brand or model to choose, I highly recommend this one. I installed on a stock height 2021 JL and the step height is 11” from the ground. The provided instruction aren’t perfectly clear and there’s really not a great video out there that I found. I was able to run the wiring harness through the the frame to keep the install clean. I found that the most difficult part of the installation was wiring at the inner side panel. The factory wiring is tough to get at but the provided quick couplers eased the install.
Best running boards ever!!
This is the first mod I have splurged on and it’s worth the money! I love the clean look when the steps are retracted. Also have a shorter step up when the steps come down. We chose to pay someone to install them for us. It took them 6 hours.
I love them but they took much longer than needed to install because they had no directions for my specific model. The wiring harness was wires backwards and the videos on utube had the fix wrong. To reverse the door opening and closing the steps you reverse the wires at the motor step not the purple wires in the dash, those controle left and right sides. Also it needs 3 brackets not just two, it wobbles when you step on it. Not a lot but it should be more sturdy. The mopar ones I took off did not move at all and bolted to the same holes. I have a 22 2500 power wagon and the harness and box said it was for a 13 ram or newer diesel, I have neither so the while time I'm installing, I'm just hoping everything works out. Longest time figuring out which bolts go where. Overall I love them but they should be half the price. Makes getting in and out easy and safe. 3 stars maybe harsh but you…
Added These to my 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon they are Awesome work perfectly and look just like the factory Rock Rails if you are on the Fence stop and Purchase these you will be well pleased
I purchased the Power Step XL Running boards for my 2015 Ford F-159 XLT Super Crew, that has a 6" lift, in March 2018. First off, the materials are very sturdy, well made. The finished product looks great on my truck. Once the weather cooperates I will submit photos. Installation was kind of a bear for myself, I am not an experienced installer. Install took me better part of a full day since I did not have a shop with a lift. Doing this in my garage was very labor intensive, and I did the install by myself. I would recommend at least one other person to help. The directions were very easy to follow. The LED's that come with the kit are ok, but I would definitely would like to have some brighter LED's. The finished product is amazing, it looks amazing, and would recommend this to anyone with children, bad back, knees, or just for looks. I give this product a 5/5 for looks, ease of…
I love these running boards when they are working. Obviously they are not made for western New York weather. First the drivers side ceased and I had to replace the mechanism. This year the passengers side is on the verge of not working, I have to give it a little assist with my foot to get it to close. I keep them lubricated, but it doesn't seem to help. I had the drivers side replaced by the installers and it was covered under the warranty, but it took three months to get it replaced. I suggest the manufacturers consider making improvements in the hinges. Possibly using non corroding bushings on the hinge.
Steps look and work great, the motor responds as soon as the doors open they are a little noisy but work good
Overall I like the powered steps however had a couple of issues installing. The instruction sheet sent, did not describe HOW to connect the lights. The photo showed them but seem to show that they used double stick tape to attach them. In reality they used bolts that had to be slide in before the rest of the mounting bracket bolts were. I ended up disassembling most of the installed parts to get them installed, and cost me about an hour extra. Secondly, I had to cut part of the F150 frame because it was malformed (Ford's fault!). Also live in Minnesota and find that with road salt and below zero weather, they don't retract completely always. I assume I need to lubricate the joints. Other than those issue, I think the purchase was worth it!
Boards were delivered fast when others could not. Everything was there. Price was fair. There are dings on both running boards though.
The extra 3 inch drop to make it easier to step onto translates into leaving you having to step up higher from the step into the truck. They also hug the truck a little closer than stationary mounted steps of the same width
