A lower step for lifted rides

The XL deploys up to 3" lower than AMP Research's standard PowerStep, so a lifted truck gets a first step closer to the ground. It still comes out with the door and tucks away when the doors close, leaving the body lines clean.

Tucked away when the doors close

Retracted, each XL board sits beneath the vehicle instead of hanging off the rocker. The body lines stay clean and a lifted truck keeps its ground clearance.

Built for bigger, taller rigs

Every XL board is corrosion-resistant aluminum in textured black powder coat, rated to 300 lb per door and pivoting on stainless steel hinge pins. LED lamps light the 6" wide step, which helps most when that step sits lower than usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How much lower does the XL step sit than a standard PowerStep?

AMP Research builds the XL to deploy up to 3" lower than the standard PowerStep, for lifted vehicles where a standard step leaves too long a reach. The exact height above the ground depends on the vehicle and how much it has been lifted. On a vehicle at factory ride height, the extra drop can put the step lower than you need, and the standard PowerStep is the better match.

Is it plug-and-play, or will I be splicing wires?

The listing title says which version this is. Plug-N-Play versions pick up the door signal from a module plugged into the OBD-II port, which spares you from hunting down door wires, but the XL guides still call for crimped or Posi-style connections and, on some vehicles, a tap into a factory wire or a lead to the battery. Hard-Wire versions splice into the vehicle's own wiring. Plan on electrical work either way.

Does it need drilling, and how long does it take?

Some XL applications bolt to existing mounting points and others need holes drilled; the installation guide for your vehicle is the authority. Every XL guide quotes 3 to 5 hours and grades the job as experienced-level work, and AMP Research recommends having it professionally installed.

Will it fit if my vehicle has factory rock rails?

On several XL applications the product notes call for factory rock rails to be removed before installation, and the notes for this vehicle appear on its listing. If you run aftermarket sliders or a body lift, compare the installation guide's mounting points with your setup before you buy.

How do I keep it working through winter?

Grit, salt and ice can pack into the linkages and cause noise or binding. AMP Research's routine: hose the front and rear linkages with a pressure washer while keeping the spray off the motors, treat every pivot with a dry-film silicone spray, and open and close the doors a few times to work it in. Avoid grease, oil, WD-40 and penetrants. If your winters are severe, the PowerStep Xtreme adds a second motor on each side.

What does the warranty cover?

Faults in materials or workmanship on boards fitted per the supplied instructions, with AMP Research choosing whether to repair or replace the part. Labor to take a part off or put it back is the owner's cost. The cover is for the first buyer only and stops if the boards come off their original vehicle or it changes owner, and it does not extend to misuse, accident damage, bad installation, modification, neglected maintenance or road hazards.
