The PowerStep XL drops its 6" step up to 3" farther than AMP Research's standard PowerStep, which is the difference that counts once a vehicle has been lifted. It still works on its own, swinging out as a door opens and folding away under the body once the doors are shut. Clean body lines and full ground clearance come back the moment it retracts. Part number 77338-01A is the Plug-N-Play version for the 2022-2026 Toyota Tundra (CrewMax only).

Features
Up to 3" more reach down The XL is engineered to deploy up to 3" lower than the standard PowerStep. On a lifted pickup or SUV that extra drop shortens the first step up from the ground, and it is the reason this model exists.
The same automatic action Open a door and the board swings down; close the doors and it folds back under the body. There is no lever or switch involved in everyday use.
Out of sight on the move Retracted, the board disappears beneath the vehicle, so the body lines stay clean and ground clearance is left as it was, which matters on a truck built to go off pavement.
Same 300 lb rating, stainless pivots Each XL board is rated for up to 300 lb per door, matching the standard PowerStep, and its pivots use stainless steel pins and hardware where a step takes its wear.
Aluminum under a tough coat Corrosion-resistant aluminum is finished in a textured black powder coat that resists salt, mud and pressure washing.
Lit and slip resistant The 6" wide step surface is slip resistant, and LED lamps light it as it deploys, so the lower step is easy to find in the dark.
Plug-N-Play or Hard-Wire Plug-N-Play versions read the door signal from an OBD-II plug-in module, while Hard-Wire versions splice into the vehicle's wiring. The title for each vehicle names the version, and both involve electrical work at install.

Each XL kit is built for one vehicle and carries mounting rail assemblies along with the motorized and idler linkages, a controller and a harness. Some applications bolt to existing mounting points while others need holes drilled; the guide for your vehicle says which, and the listing never assumes. The wiring is joined with crimp or Posi-style connectors, so plan for electrical work as well as the bolt-up, or book the job with a shop. Torque every fastener to the value the guide gives for it, and afterwards open each door in turn to confirm the boards deploy and the lamps light.
Warranty. AMP Research's limited warranty covers the PowerStep XL against faults in materials or workmanship, provided the boards were fitted per the supplied instructions. AMP Research decides whether to repair or replace a faulty part, and the labor to remove or refit it is the owner's. Cover is for the first buyer and lapses once the boards leave their original vehicle or that vehicle is sold; misuse, accident damage, bad installation, modification, neglected maintenance and road hazards are excluded.
Inspect on delivery. Before signing for the carton, look over the boards, rails, linkages and motors, and write any damage on the delivery paperwork on the spot. Then check the contents against the parts list in the guide ahead of installation day, so a missing piece is found while there is still time to replace it.
Returns. Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. If an item arrives damaged, defective or wrong, return shipping is on us. See our Returns & Refunds Policy, or email support@prestigetruck.com with any question.
About AMP Research
AMP Research makes powered running boards, bed steps and bed extenders, and its PowerStep line of power-retractable boards dates back to 2002. Under its limited warranty the company answers for faults in materials or workmanship on products fitted as its instructions describe; the cover runs to the first buyer and lapses if the product leaves its original vehicle or that vehicle is resold.
The XL sits beside the standard PowerStep as the model for raised vehicles: same aluminum board, same 300 lb per door rating, but a deployed step up to 3" lower. AMP Research's other powered boards take different directions. The PowerStep Xtreme uses two motors a side for snow, ice and mud, the PowerStep Vision builds LED edge lighting into the board, and the PowerStep Smart Series adds phone-app control. The BedStep, BedStep2 and BedXTender HD models round out the range for pickup beds.
Across the brand's running boards the build is consistent: corrosion-resistant aluminum with a textured black powder-coated finish, stainless pivot pins and fasteners, and integrated LED lamps. Kits are engineered per vehicle, and AMP Research holds patents on the design.
See it on a truck
A lower step for lifted rides
The XL deploys up to 3" lower than AMP Research's standard PowerStep, so a lifted truck gets a first step closer to the ground. It still comes out with the door and tucks away when the doors close, leaving the body lines clean.

Tucked away when the doors close
Retracted, each XL board sits beneath the vehicle instead of hanging off the rocker. The body lines stay clean and a lifted truck keeps its ground clearance.
Built for bigger, taller rigs
Every XL board is corrosion-resistant aluminum in textured black powder coat, rated to 300 lb per door and pivoting on stainless steel hinge pins. LED lamps light the 6" wide step, which helps most when that step sits lower than usual.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
How much lower does the XL step sit than a standard PowerStep?
AMP Research builds the XL to deploy up to 3" lower than the standard PowerStep, for lifted vehicles where a standard step leaves too long a reach. The exact height above the ground depends on the vehicle and how much it has been lifted. On a vehicle at factory ride height, the extra drop can put the step lower than you need, and the standard PowerStep is the better match.
Is it plug-and-play, or will I be splicing wires?
The listing title says which version this is. Plug-N-Play versions pick up the door signal from a module plugged into the OBD-II port, which spares you from hunting down door wires, but the XL guides still call for crimped or Posi-style connections and, on some vehicles, a tap into a factory wire or a lead to the battery. Hard-Wire versions splice into the vehicle's own wiring. Plan on electrical work either way.
Does it need drilling, and how long does it take?
Some XL applications bolt to existing mounting points and others need holes drilled; the installation guide for your vehicle is the authority. Every XL guide quotes 3 to 5 hours and grades the job as experienced-level work, and AMP Research recommends having it professionally installed.
Will it fit if my vehicle has factory rock rails?
On several XL applications the product notes call for factory rock rails to be removed before installation, and the notes for this vehicle appear on its listing. If you run aftermarket sliders or a body lift, compare the installation guide's mounting points with your setup before you buy.
How do I keep it working through winter?
Grit, salt and ice can pack into the linkages and cause noise or binding. AMP Research's routine: hose the front and rear linkages with a pressure washer while keeping the spray off the motors, treat every pivot with a dry-film silicone spray, and open and close the doors a few times to work it in. Avoid grease, oil, WD-40 and penetrants. If your winters are severe, the PowerStep Xtreme adds a second motor on each side.
What does the warranty cover?
Faults in materials or workmanship on boards fitted per the supplied instructions, with AMP Research choosing whether to repair or replace the part. Labor to take a part off or put it back is the owner's cost. The cover is for the first buyer only and stops if the boards come off their original vehicle or it changes owner, and it does not extend to misuse, accident damage, bad installation, modification, neglected maintenance or road hazards.
