Features
- Folds up to the cab: Release the latches and fold the cover toward the cab to open about two-thirds of the bed, then fold it once more against the cab for full access without taking it off. Rubber bumpers protect the cab, and BAK says the third brake light stays visible in every position.
- Built-in water drainage: The side rails collect water that gets past the seals and guide it to the front of the bed, where drain tubes carry it out.
- Textured FRP top panels: Each panel has a textured fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) top skin over a high-density foam core and a powder-coated aluminum bottom, so it stays light but rigid. BAK rates the closed cover at 400 lb, evenly distributed.
- EPDM weather seals: EPDM rubber seals press tight to the bed rails, and rounded hinges help keep water and debris out; BAK lists a dual-action tailgate seal on most applications. Like any tonneau cover, it is weather-resistant rather than airtight.
- No-drill clamp install: It clamps to the bed rails with the included hardware, with no cutting, trimming or drilling on most trucks, and BAK puts the install at less than an hour.
- Panels latch automatically: Each panel latches to the side rails on its own as the cover closes. To open it, lower the tailgate and pull the release cable; the latches let go.
Description & Fitment
Made for one bed, the 6'6" box on the 1988-1998 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 1500, 1988-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 2500, 1988-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 3500 and 6 more trucks in the fitment table, this BAKFlip F1 folds back in panels. It clamps to the bed rails with no drilling, using BAK's clamps plus a stake pocket clamp at the tailgate end. Two things set it apart: textured FRP top skins over a high-density foam core, and a third brake light that stays visible in every position (per BAK). It folds to open about two-thirds of the bed, or all of it when folded against the cab. The warranty is BAK's own: 5 years, limited.

Check your bed: measure along the top of the bed rail from the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. This cover is for the 6'6" bed. Some older rows specify the Fleetside bed.

About BAK Industries

The F1 is the BAKFlip with textured, FRP-topped foam-core panels and a 400 lb rating. BAK describes it as close in look to the BAKFlip G2, which uses solid-core aluminum panels and is rated at 300 lb.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my 1988-1998 Chevy/GMC C/K 1500?
Yes, if it has the 6'6" bed. Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate, or send us your VIN and we will confirm.
Will it work with my bed liner?
Yes. BAK's sheet says no bulkhead seal is needed with a drop-in bed liner, and the drain tubes can run behind the liner.
How is the F1 different from the BAKFlip G2?
They look much alike. The F1 swaps the G2's solid-core aluminum panels for panels with a fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) top skin over a high-density foam core and an aluminum bottom skin. BAK rates the F1 at 400 lb (the G2 at 300 lb), and the F1 carries a 5-year warranty against the G2's 3 years.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to. Wrap-around EPDM perimeter seals and rounded hinges keep most water out, and the rails channel what gets past them to drain tubes at the front of the bed. BAK's install sheet notes the cover is not airtight, so keep anything that must stay dry in a sealed container, and clear snow and ice before opening (a warranty condition).
Can I carry cargo on top of the cover?
BAK rates the closed F1 at 400 lb, evenly distributed. Its install sheet also says not to tie cargo to the cover or drive with objects on top of it, so treat the rating as a measure of strength, not as a roof rack.
Can I drive with it open, and will my third brake light show?
Yes to both. Folded once, buckle straps hold it; folded up against the cab, the prop rods lock it in place. BAK says the third brake light stays visible in every position. BAK's warranty requires the cover to be secured at all points whenever the truck is moving.

Here's the short version. Follow BAK's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions and settings.
- Prep the bed. Make sure the areas where the cover mounts are clean. If your kit has a bulkhead seal, clean the top of the bulkhead with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let it dry and stick the seal from one edge to the other, trimming the excess (no seal is needed with a drop-in bed liner). If your kit has rubber filler strips, stick them between the plastic bed cap and the metal rail, one 6-8" from the bulkhead, one at the tailgate and one in the middle.
- Set the side rails. Fit a drain tube to the front of each side rail and set the rail flush with the top edge of the bed rail, drain end toward the cab, pushed all the way forward and square to the bed. Run the tubes behind a bed liner, through the bed plugs or through a 5/8" hole drilled in the bulkhead.
- Clamp the rails. Hang the clamps as high as they go, the front one 6-8" from the bulkhead and the center one behind the prop rod, keeping the rail level with the bed cap. At the tailgate end use the stake pocket clamp (a standard clamp on 2019 and newer trucks with the Multi-Pro tailgate). Tighten all clamps to 10 ft-lb with a 1/2" wrench or socket, without over-tightening, and repeat on the other side. On 2007-2013 trucks, fit the stake pocket covers near the tailgate.
- Fit the cover. Slide the two cover retainer clamps into the track under the cover near the cab, and screw the two strap buckles to the front panel by hand with a Phillips screwdriver (BAK says no screw gun). Set the folded cover on the rails at the cab end, centered between them, and turn the retainer clamps clockwise until the lock washer is secure.
- Unfold and square it up. With the cover still folded, clean its top edge where it meets the cab (soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol) and stick the cab bumpers along it. Unfold the cover to the tailgate and check that each panel is centered side to side and front to back; the tail panel should overlap the tailgate by about 1/2". Shift it on the loosened retainer clamps if needed, then re-tighten them. With a power tailgate, make sure it still opens and closes with the cover shut.
- Check the latches. Release each latch to make sure it catches the side rails; the sheet shows how to adjust a slam latch that hits or misses. BAK's warranty asks you to re-check every clamp after the first week of driving and now and then after that.

Great cover, fits nicely. Not entirely waterproof but not a flood either. Installation about 2 hours with one person. Instructions could use clarity on front mounting location. I don't have a bed liner so you just have to guess since picture is not scaled. Close fit from front to back gate. Not much room for to far either way. I'd buy this again.

My BakFlip Bed Cover is Awesome

Back in 2011 I purchased their original f1 came out. This one is lighter then my old one. The rear seal is also better then the rubber they used to have. Now its metal with a rubber seal sitting on the tail gate. So far I love the new cover!

Looks really nice on my 2019 Chevy Colorado truck. I do love the look. It is sturdy and easy to use once it’s put together. However I did receive it with a chip the size of half a dime on the side. Never returned it because it was kind of hard for me to put together so didn’t want to think of taking it apart and putting it back together again. Also water does get inside so not completely water proof however It serves its purpose.

The BAKFlip F1 cover works great on my 8ft bed. The only thing that didn't fit is the foam seal at front of bed is not thick enough so I bought a thicker seal at hardware store. Otherwise, it keeps the bed contents dry during rain storms. Bed rail shims also had to be utilized to plumb up the rails. Shims are included.

Love the BAKFlip F1
I had a A.R.E. LSII cover on the truck prior to the BAKFlip and was not happy with it as the entire bed could not be utilized at once (such as hauling mulch, a washer / dryer, etc.) and decided to replace it with the F1. Install took less than 30 minutes and it was a perfect fit. I'm now able to use the entire bed and still have a strong and protective cover on the truck. Very little, and I mean minimal, water will get in when I go through a car wash. I feel comfortable leaving my tool box, suit case, etc. in the bed while it's raining. Absolutely no complaints at all and I highly recommend this cover.

Bought the F1 because of the FRP panels. I know I would dent and scratch the aluminum version. Installation went well except for the big fat window bumpers they supply now. Decided to omit those since I won’t drive with it in that position. Pricey, but looks great, time will tell if it holds up.

About a week after install we had four days of rain. Everything in the bad was perfectly dry. I did not expect this to be the case and had actually placed all of my tools, etc into black bins with lids to protect from any water. Not a good cover
I bought this cover after the reviews and I was surprised it looks great. The problem is it flaps in the wind when you run 65 and above. The 2nd fold from the cab of the truck flaps up and down. I have a 2015 F250 when I called Bak Industries about this they said it does this with F250's. They sent me shims which don't help the problem. Its leaks from the corners. They offer no fix for this problem. This causes it to leak and not be very stable going down the road. I would not recommend this cover.

F1 Folding Cover on Chevy Silverado High Country
The cover installed easily and looks great. However, no amount of adjustment appears to stop water from entering the cargo area during a rainstorm or in a carwash. I believe the greatest source of leakage is where the front seal laps over the spray in bedliner.

F1 cover on F150
Cover looks great. Installation instructions very clear and easy to follow. Second vehicle I've put a Bakflip cover on. I like the security of a hard cover (with locking tailgate) and ease of access to the bed when carrying larger items

Waterlogged
This is my third Bakflip cover liked my other two thought I’d upgrade to the F1 but am sorely disappointed. The panels seep rain water and are now waterlogged. All my tools get wet in rainstorms. It’s almost like the panel are missing a seal when manufactured .

2nd Bak FlipF1 for Ram
I have 2 BakFlip1,s on 2 Rams, i like the older one better but the newer one is ok, feels a lot heavier when folding up. But neither lesk and look good.

Looks great and is simple to install, once you set the clamp correctly
I have had a number of bed covers, including rolling etc, and this was super easy to install. Note, critical to make sure the bed clamps are snapped into the rails to ensure proper rail orientation. Other than that, very simple, looks great. Advantages for me are its light weight, secure and only took less than an hour to install. What I like particularly is the space in the bed is not taken up by the opened cover. Highly recommended

Perfect!
I’ve always wanted to put a tonneau cover on the back of my F350, so I looked at just about every one on the market. I wanted something that was strong, wouldn’t take up room in the bed when it’s opened up and above keeps out water. I finally decided on the BAKFlip F1. Installation was much easier than I thought and it fits perfectly. I live in Utah and so far I haven’t seen a drop of water in the bed all winter. I also really like the low profile look of it. I’d definitely recommend.

simply the best hard folding cover...ever.

Not as good as used to be
This is my second BAK Flip cover and there have been changes made to the rails and the way the cover attached to the rails. The rails seem thinner and narrower and the attach brackets are less secure than the previous thru rail design. Also the length of the cover is too short to securely cover both the front bed rail and tailgate. Time will tell if overall performance has been reduced.

Mounting holes were off
Mounting holes were off by 1/8” which caused me to have to file down one hole in order to line up the left rail properly. There holes were rough and looked to not have been filed down to prevent injury. Once the rails were mounted they angled downward not flat like the photos. This caused an issue with latching the last panel and required me to move the cover more forward then it should be. I could not correct this with tightening either and the self taping screws did little to secure the rail to the bed. Seems it only prevents it from detaching completely. Overall I like the look and the panels seem to be good quality that should last a while. However, I’m still concerned about whether the mounting hardware will hold up. For the price I paid I am not happy with the quality.

Extremely Satisfied
After looking through many different style bed covers I found the Backflip suited my needs the best. It shipped quickly and arrived well packed in styrofoam. In my garage with just a few tools I found the installation very quick and easy with detailed instructions. Total install time was under one hour. The Backfkip fits my 2020 Toyota Tundra perfectly. After some heavy rains I was stoked to find the bed of my truck completely dry thanks to my new Backflip cover. I’m very happy with my choice.

NOT blown away
The bakflip does its job, I suppose, but it won't stay up in the locked position while driving. The rods that hold it up come down when you stop and it bends the crap out of the cover. Not all that impressed.

I like the fact that
I like the fact that you can open and use the full back but I was shocked how much water leaks in. I can not leave tools or anything in the back if I know it will rain.

Price vs Quality Not as Expected
Somewhat easy installation. Looks great. However, after several adjustments to the driver side rail, I couldn't close the gap enough to get a water tight-ish seal between the BF and truck bed. A waterproof seal wasn't expected, but a 1/16 to 1/8 gap wasn't expected either. The passenger side sets flush... As for the operation of flipping the panels, they work as expected, so far. I don't flip them on the daily to know if the cable that controls the latches will last 10 or 10,000 releases. The other hurdle was routing the drain tubes through the Dual Liner bed liner. This issue falls 100% on the bed liner. Dual Liner should/could accommodate for access to the bed plugs. All-in-all, I'm somewhat pleased with the purchase, which is reflected in my 3-star rating.

Leaks when truck sits
I know these covers are not waterproof but I certainly expected a lot better performance than what this cover is capable of for the price. The only time it doesn’t leak bad is when I’m driving down the road. If the truck is sitting in the rain, the pooling water leaks right into the bed and not just at the edges, all across the middle of each seam too. I had to apply silicone to each seam to slow it down. Appearance of the cover is great and the design seems to be capable of preventing water intrusion but evidently the assembly of the unit is poor. Very disappointing for the price I paid. I’ve had bed covers a third of the price outperform this cover for water resistance!

Backflip quality control issue
Love it other than missing parts and l had to fix one of the pull release was not crimped. Both the rear plastic end caps were missing leaving unfinished aluminum exposed and looks terrible. I was able to crimp the release cord so that is ok But trying to use a sharpie marker to cover the exposed aluminum ends at tailgate is a joke

Good, but
This is a strong, easy to install cover. It does not hold heat even tho' it's black; does get warmer inside, but when moving stays as cool as ambient temp. Inspite of factory claim - it leaks. In heavier rain it leaks a lot. I've adjusted and re-adjusted the channels. At this point wishing I'd bought the roll top system from another manufacturer I had on my former pickup.

Just OK
Seems the fit at tailgate is about an inch short. And the covet was advertised as 100% composite. It has aluminum top. Center is stir-foam filled. I had a lesser expensive model never leaked. This one allows water in when truck is parked. Overall wish I’d ordered the less expensive version. Looked better and functioned better.

Horrible experience
If I could give a zero I would. I purchased the cover on Sept 5th. Today is October 21st. You sent a used cover with missing parts. I had to wait on hold for about 45 mins to finally speak to someone, who was nice and helpful. She gets the 1 star! She puts through claim. I have to wait about a week for the return label. I have to schedule the return myself it’s been over 3 weeks since I returned it and no update. I sent a few emails and no response. Spending top dollar for a cover, customers shouldn’t be treated this way.

Terrible Quality
The plastic water drains tubes/collectors for the Ram Box rails are terrible and just held on with a small piece of sticky tape? (Will never fai) This is not +1K worth of quality, and better off with the factory option.

Put the Bakflip F1 on my 2019 GMC Sierra in April of 2023 and today the cover panels are so heavy I am not able to open them by standing by the bed side. I have to get into the bed or have someone help me from the other side. I have seen comments that say the panels hold water but something is making them heavy. Also lets water in like crazy at the tailgate.

Design flaw
I had a bakflip tonneau cover on my 2014 Ram 1500 with RamBox with the seal covering over the edge of the RamBox and it kept the bed dry. This new design on my 2021 Ram 1500 with RamBox has a gap between the cover and the RamBox allowing water to flow in - BAD DESIGN. Due to that and the poor quality paint job on the cover, I will not buy again.

Although it's on the pricey side, it is a great looking cover. Achieved the flush aesthetics I was looking for. However, I wish it was more water tight. It seems every time it rains, there's plenty of water seepage, even with the drain hoses properly installed.

BAKFlip F1
Very nice and solid. Looks really good on my new Tundra. Installation was simple and straightforward. I would suggest not tightening the mounting hardware until you have started all the bolts on the lower rails. Cover is not waterproof, could have done better with front rubber to seal it up.

Looks good, not so easy to align,time will tell final outcome
I had a lot of problems installing the cover. The tracks went in easily but when it was time to fit the actual cover to the tracks, things went south. Things wouldn’t line up. They tell you to use a hair driver to get things to lay down flat but the problem went beyond using heat. The rubber belt that runs Down each side have t’s to the rectangular tubing that forms enclose the sides of each panel. These inserts would pull out when the lid is being closed and jam the panels against the side tracks. Eventually the rubber covering that lined the track would wear down to the metal. In a few spots. One clamp holding the tracks came completely off. The next day in looking at the rubber belts on each side where the t inserts pulled out, it was evident that having the lid folded up actually stretched the rubber so it wouldn’t pull on the t attachment too much. Good so Far
I've had the F1 installed for just over a month. I like the appearance on my crew cab Chevy 1500. As it stands, I give it 4/5 stars. After having my hands on it I am not sure it is worth the price. Where can it improve? 1. The mechanism to keep the folded cover locked in pace when up against the cab is a bit poor. It doesn't really hold firm, and just seems a little too shifty. I don't trust it. 2. Length front to back seems an inch off. There should be a little more overlap of the front of the bed and tailgate. 3. Double sided tape (likely not heavy duty) is what is used to seal the rubber trim to the panels. It has already started to separate on one of the panels (which is how I know it double sided mounting tape. Foe the price... there is no reason at all that the adhesive should be separating.

Was easy to install, I did it by myself in about 45 minutes. Seems to fit nicely. Still allows some water in around the tailgate but not too bad. The only thing I see is that the material on the panels could be a little stronger as it dents easily. Over all good product.
