Features
- Locks the moment it closes: BAK's patented auto-latch engages as each panel closes, so there is no separate locking step. BAK says the Gen 3 lock parts were re-engineered to resist forced entry better than the Gen 2. To open it, drop the tailgate and pull the release cable.
- Sealed edge to edge: Revised EPDM rubber perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap between the cover and the bed rails, and on most trucks a dual-action tailgate seal, 13% longer than before, covers the tailgate. Drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own sheet notes the cover is not airtight, so think weather-resistant, not sealed.
- Multi-layer aluminum panels: Aluminum top panels sit over high-density polymer cores on aluminum side rails. BAK says the Gen 3 panels are 22% stronger than the original MX4, and the closed cover is rated at 400 lb, evenly distributed.
- Folds to the cab, drive open: Fold the panels to the cab, strap the cover to the buckles at the bulkhead and drive with the bed open for tall loads. Flipped fully upright, prop rods hold it against the cab on rubber bumpers. BAK says it is the only hard fold that leaves your 3rd brake light visible in every position.
- One-person install: Click-in clamps hold the rails to your bed rails, with no drilling on most trucks, and one person can do the job. BAK rates it at 30 minutes or less (Level 1) and says the new click-in design cuts install time by 12%.

BAK makes this BAKFlip MX4 for one bed: the 5'7" box on the 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, without the factory deck rail system. To open it, drop the tailgate, pull the release cable and fold the panels toward the cab. Yes, if it has the 5'7" bed, without the factory deck rail system. Measured along the floor, that box is about 66.7". Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate, and note it is not for the 6'7" bed (BAKFlip MX4 448410 or 448410T, by truck and option) or trucks with the factory deck rail system, without the Trail Edition package (BAKFlip MX4 448409T). What if my truck is equipped with the factory deck rail system, without the Trail Edition package?

What changed with the Gen 3 MX4?
BAK lists stronger panels (high-density polymer cores, 22% stronger than the original MX4), re-engineered lock parts that resist forced entry better than the Gen 2, revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps, a dual-action tailgate seal 13% longer than before, re-engineered prop rod clips, and a click-in design that it says cuts install time by 12%.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to: edge-to-edge seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap to the bed rails, and drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own install sheet says the cover is not airtight, so plan on weather-resistant rather than sealed. Clear snow and ice off before you open it; that is a warranty condition too.
How much weight can it hold?
BAK rates the closed cover at 400 lb, evenly distributed. BAK's sheet also says not to drive with objects on top of the cover or tie cargo to it.
Can I drive with it folded open?
Yes. Fold it toward the cab and attach the straps to the buckles at the bulkhead, pulled snug, and you can drive with the bed open. The cover must be secured at all points while the truck is moving; that is a condition of the warranty.

Here's the short version. Follow BAK's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions and settings.
- Prep the bulkhead. On 2022 and newer trucks, push a foam filler pad, adhesive end up, as far forward as it goes against the bulkhead on each side, and stick the cab bumper into the bulkhead valley.
- Mount the rails. Without the cargo management system, set each rail's L-shaped top on the bed rail, drain fitting at the cab against the bulkhead, and fit three clamps (one 6-8" from the bulkhead, one in the middle, one near the tailgate), starting with the middle one. With the deck rail system, remove the accessory-rail end caps, slide three T-nut kits into each accessory rail and bolt the rails on using the front half of each clamp with the kit's hex bolt and washers. Either way, tighten to 10 ft-lb with a 1/2" wrench or socket; don't over-tighten.
- Route the drain tubes. Fit the drain tubes to the front of the side rails. On most 2007-2021 trucks, drill a 5/8" hole through the rubber plug in the bulkhead on each side; on newer trucks, open up the existing floor hole with a 5/8" bit. Run each tube end through its hole.
- Prep the cover. Slide the two cover retainer clamps into the track under the cab end of the cover, one per side. Peel the liner off each gasket, stick it under a buckle end, and screw the two buckle ends into the pre-drilled holes on the front header panel with the screws and nutserts. Hand-tighten only; don't use a screw gun. The retainer clamps go on the side rails, never on the front cargo rail.
- Set the cover in place. Lay the folded cover on the side rails at the cab end, centered between them, and turn the retainer clamps clockwise until the lock washer is snug. With the cover still folded, clean the spots for the cab bumpers with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let them dry and stick the bumpers along the top edge where the cover meets the cab.
- Unfold, adjust and check. Unfold the cover toward the tailgate and center every panel side to side and front to back; the rear edge and tailgate seal rest on top of the tailgate with a 1/2" overlap. With a power tailgate, make sure it still works with the cover closed. Release each latch to check it engages the rails (the sheet shows how to adjust a slam latch), then re-tighten the retainer clamps. BAK's warranty asks you to re-check every clamp after your first week of driving.

BAKFlip MX4 (gen3) arrived on time and super easy installation. After installing the rails and weatherstripping, it was time to place the cover. I placed the cover on and adjusted it as per the video instructions. Perfect fit. As I rolled the cover all the way to the cab to place the foam pads, I noticed the black plastic mechanism covers were damaged. One was cracked, the other had a broken clip (it was in the bottom of the box. ) I called customer service and asked that instead of me trying to pack it all back up for an exchange, could they just send me 2 replacement covers. NO PROBLEM. Parts showed up a couple days later, free of charge, and I just swapped them out. Great Cover and Fantastic customer service. Ordered my bed mat from them too!!!

Good Price, Easy Install.
Looked at hard covers for a few weeks before settling on the MX4. I liked the price and features, especially after having a heavy, solid fiberglass cover on my previous truck. Arrived within a few days of ordering, well packaged, undamaged, with all parts. Installed in less than an hour with basic tools, easy to follow instructions. So far have driven a few hundred miles, both with cover down, and folded up, with no issues. Only critique is on the self-stick pads for when it is folded all the way up to the back of the cab. They did not stay stuck to the cover, but that may be due to the 115 degree climate in the desert. I'll try some weatherstrip adhesive and see if that overcomes it. Remains to be seen how it will handle the desert sun and heat, but after a couple months, still looks and functions as new.

Great tonneau cover! I installed the cover myself rather quickly with typical hand tools on my brand new 2020 Tundra. I had the factory bed rail system that had to be relocated with the provided adapter plates...make sure you specify when ordering, if your Toyota Tundra has this option. I was looking for a cover that was capable of folding up to allow full access of the bed when hauling. The low profile appearance and rubber weatherstrip along the bed rails look as though this was a factory installed tonneau cover. I really like the fact you can open the tailgate without popping open the cover too. Another feature I like is the textured finish aircraft aluminum panels. Functional and Stylish Folding Cover
I was first looking at the G2 but settled on the re-designed MX4 and I'm glad I did. The newly designed tailgate seal allows you to close them in any order you like, which is nice. Secondly, they seem to have a new surface finish on the MX4 that in my opinion looks nicer than the G2. Installation was pretty easy. This cover functions well and looks awesome. So far I really have no complaints. Mine is installed on a 2016 Tundra.

Toyota Tundra Review
I was searching for a bed cover for a very long time. I am glad I found the BAKflip MX4 Tonneau. The materials feel very sturdy and the installations was fairly simple. I live in the Pacific Northwest. One of the greatest weather battles we have is with perpetual rain. Though this bed back up system with the drain houses works fantastic I still have a few spots where I can not tell if they are leaks in the seals or the water is leaking thru the cover. Leaks too much for price
The cover looks beautiful. Install was easy. But near the front of the bed on the right side water has a consistent drip during a med-high rain. If I was to know this leaked this much I would have bought a cheaper alternative. This review does not allow for media but I would post if I could.

Excellent cover for 2022 Tundra
This cover was easy to put on and fits well. Had to adjust once for rain leakage but was simple by following instructions and videos. Adjustment now keeps bed dry during heavy rain and even through a car wash. Cover looks good. Recommend this MX4 Bakflip Tonneau cover.

The best so far
I, recently purchased the Back flip MX4 to fit a Toyota Tundra, I, was surprised how easy it was to install if you "watch the video" first, and take your time to insure its exactly in position and all the seals are seated before you do a final tighten, the only thing I, had to do because I'm picky on fit and finish, was right up at the very front of the bed where the top meets the bed the foam blocks don't do a good job in filling that gap, but the manufacture cant know every detail of every truck, after working with those two areas for about 30 mins , I, went to the auto parts store and picked up some black silicone to close off the gaps from the bottom side that rain could come thru, and used it to also fasten the drain tube to the bed liner wall, other than that it fits very nice, and the electric tail gate still drops down, not hindered by the well fitting top, the rear seals are…

The ease of use, appearance and seal are great. There is a cap at the end of one of the panels that comes loose every so often that buches the perimeter seal. I have to be conscious of that when closing to top. I I believe that issue could be resolved fairly easy. Very versatile and ergonomic. I'd buy it again.

MX4 cover for 2019 Tundra
Left rail was long and required me to grind off about 1/4 inch. The right rail was a little on the short side, so I moved it back from the front of the box a little and centered it along the right side. Finally had a heavy rain, it leaked a little in the front corners and the expected minor leaking at the tailgate. Overall seems to seal well, no complaints on the function or looks.

I wish I bought the MX2 instead.
I had an MX 2 installed on my 2017 Tacoma in January 2017. When I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma I wanted the BakFlip for it. The MX 2 is so much easier to install and it aligns with no issues. I had to keep adjusting the rails to improve the fit. The right side of the cover did not close all the way; there was a 1/4 inch gap. Part of the problem was the rubber seal improperly installed at the factory. I managed to peel it back and adjust it as it should have been.

Great cover
The cover is great and keeps my bed almost completely dry when it rains. I just made a long trip and none of my bags are wet after a heavy rain. I installed on a 24 tundra and the end sits a little high on the tail gate. No problems with it just have to push a little to lock it in. Also, the instructions aren’t the best but it’s very easy to install. Takes about 40 minutes.

Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.

2026 Maverick cover
This is my third truck to install bak flip tri fold hard cover. Each one was improved and better than the last. My only issue was a wrong part was packed with mine so I had to call customer service to ship out the correct part. I think I have had this issue on the last two covers. Issue was always resolved in a professional and professional way but it is just an added cost to you and an extra step for the customer. You dont expect this from this price point.

Expected a bit more for the price
First, watched the online video instructions for my year mode and make prior to starting. Small item, but 1/8" shims shown in the video were not included with my purchase. Second, both rubber bumpers that support the cover when in the folded position became unattached after 6 weeks without ever having the cover in the folded position. Third, both struts that are used to lock the cover in the folded open position are constantly vibrated from their holders and then hang down getting entangled in what ever cargo is being carried. Just a matter of time before they are broken off.

What a waste of time
First box came without hardware. Second box came with everything but was not straight with one side being longer than the other. They kept asking me for pictures and measurements till I had enough and sent it back for a full refund. Will never buy anything from them again. The funny thing is ,this is the second time they asked me to do a review on their junk.

Better Than OEM with easy install
The Ford Maverick factory options are fine but the BAKFlip is heavier duty. The installation was easy and took an hour but I have installed one on my F350 previously. It may take a little longer for someone with no experience installing a bed cover. Instruction are easy to follow. The BAKFlip is popular so there are excellent videos of step by step instruction online. An advantage of the BAKFlip is it is more secure than a regular cover. It’s going to be hard for someone to break into my bed and steal anything.

Poor quality
The first backflip we received had a divet in the panel. They sent us a new panel that had the corner cover damaged and the screw pulled out. It was for a Long bed truck and it didn’t come with full length solid rails we had to add the extra 2’ which wasn’t easy and was annoying. Since we have been using it for over a month, 4-5 of the protective foam pieces have come loose and fallen off and we have tried to put some back on but they keep falling off. Overall this seems like a very low quality truck bed cover with components that can’t hold up to hardly any use or the outdoor elements. Very disappointed in this product.

It leaks
Was initially impressed with the bed cover. Appearance is great, installation was easy. But after a rain, water pools in the middle of the cover and begins to leak in the middle of the bed. Ive had numerous bed covers (roll up/soft trifold/hard trifold) and they all leak and I understand that it is unavoidable. However, other bed covers have leaked towards the cab or at the tailgate. This one leaks right in the middle of the bed. For the price I cannot and would not recommend this cover to friends/family.

The Best Truck Bed Cover Yet!
In 2015, I bought my first BakFlip and transferred it to my second Ram 1500. Here in 2026, I bought my third Ram and decided to get the new BakFlip design and am glad I did. Very easy to install and it took me less than 30 minutes. I love the finished look - like it's from the Ram factory. I like that the folded panels are really secured in place when driving and won't get whipped in the wind plus it leaves room for maximum cargo space. The upgraded cable system for latching and unlatching is another big plus. They really designed a great product and I recommend it over all the others out there. . . well worth the money!

I like the cover especially because it's a hard top. There still is leakage and some parts, like the seal, seem to be fragile. Mines popped off. I have to move it a little to make it lock. If I have to use my whole truck bed, it covers my whole back window. I do like the steak flush look. I like that it easily opens with the pull down. I also like the fact you can close it with the truck bed door open or closed. Overall I like it, but for the price, definitely wish there were some things that were better.

Poor Q/A inspection
While the cover looks good the quality of parts were defective. I had to call for replacement and repair parts twice. The cable to release the lip broke due to poor workmanship. I had to replace the latch myself after only 2 weeks. This is way overpriced for having to fix it myself.

Great utility, quality not as much
My wife had one of these on her 2010 nissan titan and it was perfect in every way. So when we bought a newer truck (2015 ram 2500) we wanted to get the same cover. Tonneau was shipped quickly, was packed well and had easy instructions. The fitment is perfect and the overall utility is great. I espec6like how it acts as a headache rack when fully up and out of the way. I've had this item for a year now and have had it opened and closed around 30-40 times. The wire for the section closest to the tailgate broke. Inside the latches the wire is looped and crimped on and it slid out of the crimps. So I had to buy new cable and fix it. Works like a charm now. I will say the other stock cables work well and have not broken. Other issue is the clips that hold the seal into the side of the tonneau keep popping out. They pop back in easily but it's definitely annoying and causes the seal to…

quiestionable longevity
I have this cover on a 2021 F250. I work in the construction industry and need to open it often. The corner pieces have fallen off and the coating doesn't hold up to medium use. The seal leak in various places. If this is something you rely on, I would consider other brands.

Needs Additional Latch set
Second fold from rear window needs a latch set. The joint raises and lowers after your speed reaches 70 mph and above. This can lead to water leaks at the joint. Contacted company, but would not fix problem or refund money. They said this is normal function of the cover. This problem is caused by the design of the aerodynamics of the truck with the Cab Air Deflectors. This is different from all other Chevy Trucks.

Disappointing Quality for the Price
For the price I paid, I wouldnt buy this cover again. The biggest issue is with the long-bed rails. They come in two pieces, but only include three mounting clips. Because of this, its very difficult to get the rails properly aligned during installation, and they never seem to line up quite right. The adhesive rubber bumpers have already started coming loose after being exposed to warm weather. Lastly, the cover gets extremely hot in direct sunlight. It becomes uncomfortable to touch and makes it painful to open when needed. Overall, Im disappointed. For what this cover costs, I expected better quality and a better-designed product. Now that its installed, I feel stuck with something Im not satisfied with.

Tonneau cover is nice - but damaged inside of packing
The cover went on well but once I installed it, I noticed the clip that holds the strap for locking into place in the folded position, was broken off. I found the broken piece in the packing material. The only real fix would be to send the whole cover back and I needed it for my truck. I guess I should have looked it over more closely when I removed it from the packing.

Clamps weren't right
The clamps don't seat well against the metal behind the cap rail plastic. So, they can't hold straight when closing the cover. I contacted support and they said to send a picture and over a week later I've gotten nothing back after additional email. Pretty disappointed that something so simple couldn't be resolved quickly. I have put backing material in place until they figure it out so I can at least use it. The tailgate seal was also not seated correctly so I had to take it off and reseat it. For such an expensive product they really aren't doing the small parts well.

Too short
Love everything about the cover except that it’s too short. It barely covers the edge of the bed at the front and just touches the tailgate. Seems about two to three inches shorter than it should be so it doesn’t keep the water out at the tailgate and it’s not very secure for theft.

I like the appearance and a parent quality of the product, but it would not work on a 25 Nissan frontier the rear latches would not come down enough to latch so I had to return it. customer Service was very helpful and I had no issues so far still waiting on my refund.

It looks unfinished. The rubber molding on the sides creased up were it folds. I gave it some time n the heat to see if it would flatten and it didn’t. The corners by the cab looked unfinished. The installation of the rails was horrible, yes I did it right, and it still didn’t close and lock wo slamming it or lifting on the side rails get it to lock. For the amount of money it cost I expect much better. So I returned mine and went with another brand from another company. And am very happy now. No rubber flap edges. Easy install and locks every time. Yes: the return process was fast and easy, but I’m rating the product.

Bakflip MX4 Ram truck w/rambox
I’m very disappointed with this product. It leaks at both the front and rear, which defeats the whole purpose of having a bed cover/top in the first place. The instructions were also a major issue. I have a Ram with the RamBox bed, but the instructions provided were for a Chevy 1500. The installation is not the same, and it made the process much more frustrating than it needed to be. Had I known the product would not seal properly and that the correct truck-specific instructions would not be included, I would have chosen a different top. At this point, I honestly wish I could return it.

If you want a cover that does not leak look somewhere else. It has been installed correctly and it's still does not prevent water from entering the bed. . after a good rain the bed as water in it do not keep anything that is valuable in your bed.

Backflip MX4 Bed cover honest feedback
First of all, I don’t like to bring bad news, that being said, here it goes. Last year 2022 in may, I received my first MX4, it looked great! I had little trouble with installing it, about 30 mins I’d say. My issue is with the overall durability or thickness the bad cover aluminum, it dents so easily. One hailstorm and it looked like a golf ball. Ugh, that was just having it for a few months. The company was receptive to my concern, and sent me a “fiberglass” one to hopefully correct the issue. The next light hailstorm and it was another golf ball. I’m not sure if they sent me another aluminum one by mistake, or their fiberglass dents vs. cracks? It’s just a lot of money to ruin the look of your otherwise tough looking truck. Sorry Bakflip, you even tried to make it right by sending me another one, and still failed. Makes me feel a little sick.

Good but not perfect
Looks good, I like that it folds all the way for full bed access. One of the bumpers for when it is fully open blew off. Still leaks water inside. Could probably use to be made a little longer for more coverage over the tail gate. I was expecting better for the money I paid for this thing. I have a cheaper one on a different truck that leaks about the same. I going to try some extra gasket in places and hope for the best.
