Features
- Locks the moment it closes: BAK's patented auto-latch engages as each panel closes, so there is no separate locking step. BAK says the Gen 3 lock parts were re-engineered to resist forced entry better than the Gen 2. To open it, drop the tailgate and pull the release cable.
- Sealed edge to edge: Revised EPDM rubber perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap between the cover and the bed rails, and on most trucks a dual-action tailgate seal, 13% longer than before, covers the tailgate. Drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own sheet notes the cover is not airtight, so think weather-resistant, not sealed.
- Multi-layer aluminum panels: Aluminum top panels sit over high-density polymer cores on aluminum side rails. BAK says the Gen 3 panels are 22% stronger than the original MX4, and the closed cover is rated at 400 lb, evenly distributed.
- Folds to the cab, drive open: Fold the panels to the cab, strap the cover to the buckles at the bulkhead and drive with the bed open for tall loads. Flipped fully upright, prop rods hold it against the cab on rubber bumpers. BAK says it is the only hard fold that leaves your 3rd brake light visible in every position.
- One-person install: Click-in clamps hold the rails to your bed rails, with no drilling on most trucks, and one person can do the job. BAK rates it at 30 minutes or less (Level 1) and says the new click-in design cuts install time by 12%.
- The original hard-fold cover: BAK says the MX4 defined the hard-folding category and calls it America's best-selling truck bed cover. The Gen 3 version (model year 2025) sits flush with the bed rails and wears a textured matte black finish on every surface.

Yes, if it has the 8' bed. Measured along the floor, that box is about 97.8". Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate, and note it is not for the 5'8" bed (BAKFlip MX4 448120) or the 6'6" bed (BAKFlip MX4 448121). If you are unsure, send us your VIN and we will confirm.
My truck is right at a model-year change. Which one do I need?

What changed with the Gen 3 MX4?
BAK lists stronger panels (high-density polymer cores, 22% stronger than the original MX4), re-engineered lock parts that resist forced entry better than the Gen 2, revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps, a dual-action tailgate seal 13% longer than before, re-engineered prop rod clips, and a click-in design that it says cuts install time by 12%.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to: edge-to-edge seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap to the bed rails, and drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own install sheet says the cover is not airtight, so plan on weather-resistant rather than sealed. Clear snow and ice off before you open it; that is a warranty condition too.
How much weight can it hold?
BAK rates the closed cover at 400 lb, evenly distributed. BAK's sheet also says not to drive with objects on top of the cover or tie cargo to it.
Can I drive with it folded open?
Yes. Fold it toward the cab and attach the straps to the buckles at the bulkhead, pulled snug, and you can drive with the bed open. The cover must be secured at all points while the truck is moving; that is a condition of the warranty.

Here's the short version. Follow BAK's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions and settings.
- Seal the bulkhead. Clean the top of the bulkhead with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, and let it dry. Stick the included bulkhead seal from one edge of the bulkhead to the other and trim the excess. With a drop-in bed liner, the seal isn't needed.
- Join the rail sections. Assemble both rail couplers with their screws and lock washers, slide a coupler into the end of each side rail, snap a rail connector onto the tail end of the rail over the seal, then slide the rail extender on and push it into the connector. Tighten the coupler screws on both sections with a Phillips screwdriver. No cutting of the cover seal is needed.
- Set and clamp the rails. Add the filler strips if your kit has them and fit the drain tubes, then set each rail on the bed rail, drain end at the cab, pushed forward and square to the bed. Attach four clamps per side, with the third clamp close to where the two rail sections join. On 2019 and newer trucks with the Multi-Pro tailgate and grab handle, the extra clamp holds the rear of the driver-side extender between the D-pillar and the grab-handle bracket, and 2007-2013 trucks use the stake pocket clamps and covers. Keep the rails level with the bed cap and tighten to 10 ft-lb (14 Nm) with a 1/2" wrench or socket. Don't over-tighten.
- Prep the cover. Slide the two cover retainer clamps into the track under the cab end of the cover, one per side. Peel the liner off each gasket, stick it under a buckle end, and screw the two buckle ends into the pre-drilled holes on the front header panel with the screws and nutserts. Hand-tighten only; don't use a screw gun.
- Set the cover in place. Lay the folded cover on the side rails at the cab end, centered between them, and turn the retainer clamps clockwise until the lock washer is snug. With the cover still folded, clean the spots for the cab bumpers with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let them dry and stick the bumpers along the top edge where the cover meets the cab.
- Unfold, adjust and check. Unfold the cover toward the tailgate and center every panel side to side and front to back; the rear edge and tailgate seal rest on top of the tailgate with a 1/2" overlap. With a power tailgate, make sure it still works with the cover closed. Release each latch to check it engages the rails (the sheet shows how to adjust a slam latch), then re-tighten the retainer clamps. BAK's warranty asks you to re-check every clamp after your first week of driving.

Huge Upgrade Over Vinyl Rollup
I had a Ford OEM vinyl rollup cover for years and finally got sick of leaks, wind, and the pain of the bars binding when rollup up. Install was super easy took about an hour by myself. Seals up great, like that you can lock it at a couple of the folding points. Only con this cover is a little heavy to flip.

Straight forward install
Had a similar cover on my 1500. It was a little heavy so with the new truck wanted something more easier to lift. Follow directions and you won't have any problems. With the mounting brackets I found if you take them apart it is easier to in install in the rail. Make sure the clamps rail end is fully inserted, it will slide in the rail when it is correctly installed.

My third Bak Industries cover
This is my 2nd Bakflip cover and I've also had another Bak cover as well. The issues that I have with the covers are as follows. Always have leaks against the bulk head in the corners. I've always had to use RTV to seal where they d9nt give you a good quality seal. I wish they would give you 4 clamps per side for a more secure rail mount. Both my 1500 and 2500 have flat mounting locations, which makes you put the 3 supplied clamps in an offset position. This leaves a longer span of rail not secured as well. This is a preference as I'm sure the manufacturer engineered the rails to be strong enough with just the 3 clamps per side. Regardless of the two issues above, the quality and customer service for warranty issues is always 100%!!!! I highly recommend Bak Industries products!!

Leaks too much for price
The cover looks beautiful. Install was easy. But near the front of the bed on the right side water has a consistent drip during a med-high rain. If I was to know this leaked this much I would have bought a cheaper alternative. This review does not allow for media but I would post if I could.

Great cover but could use some modifications
It’s a great cover. I was able to install it in about one hour. Watched there video when I bought which helped. It fit perfectly and will add protection and security to the bed. Won’t have to worry about someone trying to cut it like the trifold ones that are just a material. When Installing noticed the holes for where the end of the clips go we’re not very nice holes had to clean two of them up to get the rivet side to go in and when I went to tighten them I noticed that you don’t have of play to tighten them and I know the video said not to over tighten which is understandable since you don’t want to crack the plastic but it also seem like they will come lose over time so if you have lock tight at home I would put that in. That’s was the only thing I saw that can be improved. Overall I’m very happy with it

BAKFlip MX4 arrived in good shape. Didn't include full installation instructions, thankfully could source online. Installation went smoothly, couple of vague directions. Only issue was the tailgate latches. Had to readjust rails to help them to have clearance to latches. One side still a little tight. All in all, a good product. My second BAKFlip cover. Did see the updates from previous cover. Definitely would recommend this product.

I wish I bought the MX2 instead.
I had an MX 2 installed on my 2017 Tacoma in January 2017. When I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma I wanted the BakFlip for it. The MX 2 is so much easier to install and it aligns with no issues. I had to keep adjusting the rails to improve the fit. The right side of the cover did not close all the way; there was a 1/4 inch gap. Part of the problem was the rubber seal improperly installed at the factory. I managed to peel it back and adjust it as it should have been.

The product is but expensive.This one is for my second truck. The other one on my GMC is only 5 years old and the rubber hinges are starting to deteriorate and you can’t buy that part for replacement. If this new one does the same thing after 5 years I will buy a cheaper version for half the cost.

The best money can buy!
I've spent the past 7 years talking to any tonneau cover owners who would talk to me about their covers. My basic questions: Do you like your tonneau cover and would you buy it again? Nearly all had soft roll-up covers of one iteration or another, and all answered back emphatically NO! When I saw the Bakflip, it was apparent it was completely different. 2026 Maverick cover
This is my third truck to install bak flip tri fold hard cover. Each one was improved and better than the last. My only issue was a wrong part was packed with mine so I had to call customer service to ship out the correct part. I think I have had this issue on the last two covers. Issue was always resolved in a professional and professional way but it is just an added cost to you and an extra step for the customer. You dont expect this from this price point.

What a waste of time
First box came without hardware. Second box came with everything but was not straight with one side being longer than the other. They kept asking me for pictures and measurements till I had enough and sent it back for a full refund. Will never buy anything from them again. The funny thing is ,this is the second time they asked me to do a review on their junk.

Expected a bit more for the price
First, watched the online video instructions for my year mode and make prior to starting. Small item, but 1/8" shims shown in the video were not included with my purchase. Second, both rubber bumpers that support the cover when in the folded position became unattached after 6 weeks without ever having the cover in the folded position. Third, both struts that are used to lock the cover in the folded open position are constantly vibrated from their holders and then hang down getting entangled in what ever cargo is being carried. Just a matter of time before they are broken off.

Best quality, best economically, best satisfaction
I thoroughly love this cover. It fits my truck perfectly and keeps the inside dry. I drove 4 hours the rain with no leaks, and easy to gain access. My last 2 trucks i went with solid covers. I have always been pleased with them. I tried this cover and absolutely Love this cover. I will never go back. Thank you.

Better Than OEM with easy install
The Ford Maverick factory options are fine but the BAKFlip is heavier duty. The installation was easy and took an hour but I have installed one on my F350 previously. It may take a little longer for someone with no experience installing a bed cover. Instruction are easy to follow. The BAKFlip is popular so there are excellent videos of step by step instruction online. An advantage of the BAKFlip is it is more secure than a regular cover. It’s going to be hard for someone to break into my bed and steal anything.

Got the cover quickly. Install was pretty easy but I did read and watch videos before install. My 11 year old grandson, he did most of the work inside the truck bed, and my son assisted. So you know it was a straight forward install. Love the topper.

I usually don't like tonneau covers for one reason or another, but I pulled the trigger on this cover and I have absolutely no regrets. My cover showed up real quick and was packaged well, so well in fact that the entire install kit was missing! No matter, the folks at tonneaucoverworld made that right for me just as fast. Once I had everything in hand the installation process was a breeze, the longest part of it was peeling back my bedliner to cut a hole out for the drain tube, maybe 15 minutes of work. I have no complaints!

Poor quality
The first backflip we received had a divet in the panel. They sent us a new panel that had the corner cover damaged and the screw pulled out. It was for a Long bed truck and it didn’t come with full length solid rails we had to add the extra 2’ which wasn’t easy and was annoying. Since we have been using it for over a month, 4-5 of the protective foam pieces have come loose and fallen off and we have tried to put some back on but they keep falling off. Overall this seems like a very low quality truck bed cover with components that can’t hold up to hardly any use or the outdoor elements. Very disappointed in this product.

It leaks
Was initially impressed with the bed cover. Appearance is great, installation was easy. But after a rain, water pools in the middle of the cover and begins to leak in the middle of the bed. Ive had numerous bed covers (roll up/soft trifold/hard trifold) and they all leak and I understand that it is unavoidable. However, other bed covers have leaked towards the cab or at the tailgate. This one leaks right in the middle of the bed. For the price I cannot and would not recommend this cover to friends/family.

The Best Truck Bed Cover Yet!
In 2015, I bought my first BakFlip and transferred it to my second Ram 1500. Here in 2026, I bought my third Ram and decided to get the new BakFlip design and am glad I did. Very easy to install and it took me less than 30 minutes. I love the finished look - like it's from the Ram factory. I like that the folded panels are really secured in place when driving and won't get whipped in the wind plus it leaves room for maximum cargo space. The upgraded cable system for latching and unlatching is another big plus. They really designed a great product and I recommend it over all the others out there. . . well worth the money!

Everything I expected it to be. Same as GMs only less $. I rated medium on value because Im cheap :-). Seriously though, it was easy to install. I did it solo in about 45 min. Followed YouTube instructions from a guy that took the time to video his install. Got to love YouTube. Looks sharp. Has performed as expected. Zero issues. If you have a Sierra EV, get this cover.

I like the cover especially because it's a hard top. There still is leakage and some parts, like the seal, seem to be fragile. Mines popped off. I have to move it a little to make it lock. If I have to use my whole truck bed, it covers my whole back window. I do like the steak flush look. I like that it easily opens with the pull down. I also like the fact you can close it with the truck bed door open or closed. Overall I like it, but for the price, definitely wish there were some things that were better.

Nice product super easy to install but grab a friend its much easier. Product fits the bed nicely. And the lathes made it easy to fold up. If I had one critique I wish the cover on the Cab side was convex to match the shape of the bed on my 25 raptor. Small critique would make it perfect other than that it still gets an A+ from me.

Poor Q/A inspection
While the cover looks good the quality of parts were defective. I had to call for replacement and repair parts twice. The cable to release the lip broke due to poor workmanship. I had to replace the latch myself after only 2 weeks. This is way overpriced for having to fix it myself.

Great utility, quality not as much
My wife had one of these on her 2010 nissan titan and it was perfect in every way. So when we bought a newer truck (2015 ram 2500) we wanted to get the same cover. Tonneau was shipped quickly, was packed well and had easy instructions. The fitment is perfect and the overall utility is great. I espec6like how it acts as a headache rack when fully up and out of the way. I've had this item for a year now and have had it opened and closed around 30-40 times. The wire for the section closest to the tailgate broke. Inside the latches the wire is looped and crimped on and it slid out of the crimps. So I had to buy new cable and fix it. Works like a charm now. I will say the other stock cables work well and have not broken. Other issue is the clips that hold the seal into the side of the tonneau keep popping out. They pop back in easily but it's definitely annoying and causes the seal to…

quiestionable longevity
I have this cover on a 2021 F250. I work in the construction industry and need to open it often. The corner pieces have fallen off and the coating doesn't hold up to medium use. The seal leak in various places. If this is something you rely on, I would consider other brands.

Looks Great but Leaks
I love the low profile look of the cover but it leaks in the corners by the cab. I even purchased some silicone putty to fill in the gaps between the bed and the cover, but it still leaks.

Needs Additional Latch set
Second fold from rear window needs a latch set. The joint raises and lowers after your speed reaches 70 mph and above. This can lead to water leaks at the joint. Contacted company, but would not fix problem or refund money. They said this is normal function of the cover. This problem is caused by the design of the aerodynamics of the truck with the Cab Air Deflectors. This is different from all other Chevy Trucks.

Disappointing Quality for the Price
For the price I paid, I wouldnt buy this cover again. The biggest issue is with the long-bed rails. They come in two pieces, but only include three mounting clips. Because of this, its very difficult to get the rails properly aligned during installation, and they never seem to line up quite right. The adhesive rubber bumpers have already started coming loose after being exposed to warm weather. Lastly, the cover gets extremely hot in direct sunlight. It becomes uncomfortable to touch and makes it painful to open when needed. Overall, Im disappointed. For what this cover costs, I expected better quality and a better-designed product. Now that its installed, I feel stuck with something Im not satisfied with.

Tonneau cover is nice - but damaged inside of packing
The cover went on well but once I installed it, I noticed the clip that holds the strap for locking into place in the folded position, was broken off. I found the broken piece in the packing material. The only real fix would be to send the whole cover back and I needed it for my truck. I guess I should have looked it over more closely when I removed it from the packing.

Easy install, nice looking
This tonneau cover was even nicer looking than I thought it would be. Super streamlined and matches my Rhino Lining bedliner somehow. The only complaint is that I installed it three weeks ago and the adhesive foam strips are peeling up already. The truck is garage stored and it’s summer so it hasn’t been in the elements yet.

This is the least weather proof cover Ive ever owned, on top of that it rattles on any pot hole or bump. The only thing this cover has going for it is the appearance.

Clamps weren't right
The clamps don't seat well against the metal behind the cap rail plastic. So, they can't hold straight when closing the cover. I contacted support and they said to send a picture and over a week later I've gotten nothing back after additional email. Pretty disappointed that something so simple couldn't be resolved quickly. I have put backing material in place until they figure it out so I can at least use it. The tailgate seal was also not seated correctly so I had to take it off and reseat it. For such an expensive product they really aren't doing the small parts well.

Too short
Love everything about the cover except that it’s too short. It barely covers the edge of the bed at the front and just touches the tailgate. Seems about two to three inches shorter than it should be so it doesn’t keep the water out at the tailgate and it’s not very secure for theft.

Product is flimsy. You can see light escaping through the cracks from the outside. Plenty of water gets inside. Side trims are always falling off rail. Always looks dirty or faded. Side stands don’t hold up box correctly.

Hard folding
I am very unhappy with the fit. It does not allow the tail gate of my 2026 Nissan frontier to properly close. I have to position it further forward on the bed to make it work. I would not recommend this cover or the company.

Will not fit 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro X
I like the appearance and a parent quality of the product, but it would not work on a 25 Nissan frontier the rear latches would not come down enough to latch so I had to return it. customer Service was very helpful and I had no issues so far still waiting on my refund.

It looks unfinished. The rubber molding on the sides creased up were it folds. I gave it some time n the heat to see if it would flatten and it didn’t. The corners by the cab looked unfinished. The installation of the rails was horrible, yes I did it right, and it still didn’t close and lock wo slamming it or lifting on the side rails get it to lock. For the amount of money it cost I expect much better. So I returned mine and went with another brand from another company. And am very happy now. No rubber flap edges. Easy install and locks every time. Yes: the return process was fast and easy, but I’m rating the product.

Bakflip MX4 Ram truck w/rambox
I’m very disappointed with this product. It leaks at both the front and rear, which defeats the whole purpose of having a bed cover/top in the first place. The instructions were also a major issue. I have a Ram with the RamBox bed, but the instructions provided were for a Chevy 1500. The installation is not the same, and it made the process much more frustrating than it needed to be. Had I known the product would not seal properly and that the correct truck-specific instructions would not be included, I would have chosen a different top. At this point, I honestly wish I could return it.

Leaks everywhere
If you want a cover that does not leak look somewhere else. It has been installed correctly and it's still does not prevent water from entering the bed. . after a good rain the bed as water in it do not keep anything that is valuable in your bed.

Backflip MX4 Bed cover honest feedback
First of all, I don’t like to bring bad news, that being said, here it goes. Last year 2022 in may, I received my first MX4, it looked great! I had little trouble with installing it, about 30 mins I’d say. My issue is with the overall durability or thickness the bad cover aluminum, it dents so easily. One hailstorm and it looked like a golf ball. Ugh, that was just having it for a few months. The company was receptive to my concern, and sent me a “fiberglass” one to hopefully correct the issue. The next light hailstorm and it was another golf ball. I’m not sure if they sent me another aluminum one by mistake, or their fiberglass dents vs. cracks? It’s just a lot of money to ruin the look of your otherwise tough looking truck. Sorry Bakflip, you even tried to make it right by sending me another one, and still failed. Makes me feel a little sick.

Good but not perfect
Looks good, I like that it folds all the way for full bed access. One of the bumpers for when it is fully open blew off. Still leaks water inside. Could probably use to be made a little longer for more coverage over the tail gate. I was expecting better for the money I paid for this thing. I have a cheaper one on a different truck that leaks about the same. I going to try some extra gasket in places and hope for the best.
