Features
- Locks the moment it closes: BAK's patented auto-latch engages as each panel closes, so there is no separate locking step. BAK says the Gen 3 lock parts were re-engineered to resist forced entry better than the Gen 2. To open it, drop the tailgate and pull the release cable.
- Sealed edge to edge: Revised EPDM rubber perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap between the cover and the bed rails, and on most trucks a dual-action tailgate seal, 13% longer than before, covers the tailgate. Drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own sheet notes the cover is not airtight, so think weather-resistant, not sealed.
- Multi-layer aluminum panels: Aluminum top panels sit over high-density polymer cores on aluminum side rails. BAK says the Gen 3 panels are 22% stronger than the original MX4, and the closed cover is rated at 400 lb, evenly distributed.
- Folds to the cab, drive open: Fold the panels to the cab, strap the cover to the buckles at the bulkhead and drive with the bed open for tall loads. What changed with the Gen 3 MX4?
BAK lists stronger panels (high-density polymer cores, 22% stronger than the original MX4), re-engineered lock parts that resist forced entry better than the Gen 2, revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps, a dual-action tailgate seal 13% longer than before, re-engineered prop rod clips, and a click-in design that it says cuts install time by 12%.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to: edge-to-edge seals and tight-fit clamps close the gap to the bed rails, and drain tubes carry off water that reaches the rails. BAK's own install sheet says the cover is not airtight, so plan on weather-resistant rather than sealed. Clear snow and ice off before you open it; that is a warranty condition too.
How much weight can it hold?
BAK rates the closed cover at 400 lb, evenly distributed. BAK's sheet also says not to drive with objects on top of the cover or tie cargo to it.
Can I drive with it folded open?
Yes. Fold it toward the cab and attach the straps to the buckles at the bulkhead, pulled snug, and you can drive with the bed open. The cover must be secured at all points while the truck is moving; that is a condition of the warranty.

Here's the short version. Follow BAK's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions and settings.
- Clean and seal. Every spot where the cover mounts must be clean. If your kit includes a bulkhead seal, clean the top of the bulkhead with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let it dry and stick the seal from one edge of the bulkhead to the other, trimming the excess. A truck with a drop-in bed liner doesn't need the seal.
- Set the side rails. If your kit includes rubber filler strips, stick them between the plastic bed cap and the metal rail: one 6-8" from the bulkhead, one as close to the tailgate as possible and one centered. Fit the drain tubes to the front of the side rails, then set each rail flush with the top edge of the bed rail, drain-tube end toward the cab, pushed all the way forward and square (90°) to the bed rails so the rear latch engages. Route the drain tubes behind a bed liner, through the bed plugs or through a 5/8" hole drilled in the bulkhead.
- Clamp the rails. Use three or four clamps per side, depending on the truck: the front one 6-8" from the bulkhead, the rear one as close to the tailgate as possible and the rest evenly spaced. Push the back of each clamp up as high as it goes, keep the rail level with the bed cap, and tighten to 10 ft-lb with a 1/2" wrench or socket. Don't over-tighten; clamps tightened too fast or too hard make the rails lean.
- Prep the cover. Slide the two cover retainer clamps into the track under the cab end of the cover, one per side. Peel the liner off each gasket, stick it under a buckle end, and screw the two buckle ends into the pre-drilled holes on the front header panel with the screws and nutserts. Hand-tighten only; don't use a screw gun.
- Set the cover in place. Lay the folded cover on the side rails at the cab end, centered between them, and turn the retainer clamps clockwise until the lock washer is snug. With the cover still folded, clean the spots for the cab bumpers with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let them dry and stick the bumpers along the top edge where the cover meets the cab.
- Unfold, adjust and check. Unfold the cover toward the tailgate and center every panel side to side and front to back; the rear edge and tailgate seal rest on top of the tailgate with a 1/2" overlap. With a power tailgate, make sure it still works with the cover closed. Release each latch to check it engages the rails (the sheet shows how to adjust a slam latch), then re-tighten the retainer clamps. BAK's warranty asks you to re-check every clamp after your first week of driving.

Great cover with a few flaws
I just installed my cover and it looks great. It was a very easy installation. The only part about the cover I dislike is once I put the cover on and looked around the whole thing the spots where it folds were a little torn up. Being brand new that shouldnt be like that.

new BAKFlip cover
I have had two BAKFlip covers before this and loved them both. The first was on My Chevy which was sold 8 years ago. The second Was on my current F350 and finally succumbed to hard work and Montana weather. I just purchased a new one and put it on my truck alone in 25 min. The only complaints about the old ones have been addressed and it is terrific. You no longer have to open the top to close the tailgate and they have provided straps to secure the top in the next to last open position to keep the wind from slamming the top closed at speed. I am very happy with my purchase.

I have an 8 foot box and I love this thing! Easy install and fit my 2016 F250 like a glove. Install video was easy to follow and directions in the box were easy to follow as well. This is well built and strong. My Tailgate locks so I can secure things reasonably well. I wanted something with 4 panels so that I could have access to tye 5th wheel hitch and still have unobstructed view when open. Glad I went with this cover!

BAKFlip MX4 - 8 ft F350 bed
Replaced original MX4 I bought in 2018 for F350, with an 8 ft bed. New gen 3 cover appears way better. I would amend the instructional video to include 2 things for the 8 foot bed. 1: The rail extensions come with attachment pieces and assorted screws. There’s nothing mentioned on how to assemble them. Would be helpful if you had a footnote or printed material in the box. 2: When attaching the rail clamps, the suggested spacing should mention to leave room for the cover clamps that are attached at the cab to the rails. If the self installer places the clamps as far forward as possible, then those clamps have to moved back to allow the clamps to fit.

Bed cover looks great. prop rods 1"too long to lock in on final fold to truck cab. BAK told me to slide attachments back, as they were adjustable at bed rails. ( Nope screwed in to bed rails!) I ask and was told to hack saw 1" off prop rods. A customer should not have to modify a new item. I have had these before and actually moved them from truck to truck as I purchased new F250 every two years. However this is a new toy - reg. Cab shortbedF150 5. 0 a little disappointed!

Leaks too much for price
The cover looks beautiful. Install was easy. But near the front of the bed on the right side water has a consistent drip during a med-high rain. If I was to know this leaked this much I would have bought a cheaper alternative. This review does not allow for media but I would post if I could.

Full time RVer. I have always use soft tri-folding covers on my previous trucks most recently on my F250. Decided I wanted a hardtop on my new F350 and considered a rollback but did not have the space for the box in front that the top rolls into. Decided on this hardtop folding cover and have been completely pleased. It folds back far enough for my fifth wheel hitch And though it sits flat on the bed it is high enough for my fifth wheel hitch when closed. Very happy. Solidly built and very clean looking.

Barely Long Enough
Bought for a 2023 F350 long bed. Aligning the cover so that the gasket covers the tailgate leaves the front barely covering the gasket there. There is just no room to play. The under sill clamps are a pain to put on but, this is the price you pay for a cover that leaves the stake pockets open. Longevity? There is a five year warranty. However, sun and oxidation make me doubt that rubber gaskets will last longer than that.

It's a great cover. I had to modify the latches. I think it was the truck and not the cover. Bedside caps are plastic and they are a bit loose and move. It would be a lot quicker install next time. Wish it would clear the OEM tie down system.

I wish I bought the MX2 instead.
I had an MX 2 installed on my 2017 Tacoma in January 2017. When I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma I wanted the BakFlip for it. The MX 2 is so much easier to install and it aligns with no issues. I had to keep adjusting the rails to improve the fit. The right side of the cover did not close all the way; there was a 1/4 inch gap. Part of the problem was the rubber seal improperly installed at the factory. I managed to peel it back and adjust it as it should have been.

Needs a slight improvement
The only thing that I had trouble with on my 2023 F-350 was getting the latches to snap shut. Even though I was careful to put the side rails in level, I could not get about half the latches to snap shut unless I pulled up on the track while pushing down on the cover. This will be very annoying as I will have to get in the truck to close the cover, or walk side to side repeatedly. I feel that some vertical adjustability of the latches would be an improvement. I considered putting some flat washers between the latch and the cover, but there isn't enough screw length, nor threaded thickness in the cover, It is possible that the rubber gasket may compress a little bit over time to allow the latches to snap shut as the cover is flipped shut. Other than that, the product does what it is supposed to do and it looks like it should last a long time.

Clamps a little tricky
Overall the cover is well made and I'm pretty happy with it. The clamps that hold the rails on are a little tricky to install correctly. The instructions tell you to install the back of the clamp as high up as possible. The front of the clamp has a profile that matches the profile on the rail. At least on my application (F250) when I did as instructed and then tightened the clamp to spec (even using a torque wrench), the front of the clamp would pop out of the rail groove. This could allow the rail to become loose. I had to lower the rear clamp to the lower option on the clamp to keep this from happening. Bottom line, I'm not a big fan of the clamps. Seems like there should be a better way.

Almost perfect.
Does leak, seems to be within the railing, which would make me think it is somewhere within the rubber gasket seals. We’re very meticulous installers, so not sure how to remedy the situation, as we have reinstalled it once already to try to remedy the leaks. It looks great though, for the most part keeps the down pouring rain off items in the bed.

2026 Maverick cover
This is my third truck to install bak flip tri fold hard cover. Each one was improved and better than the last. My only issue was a wrong part was packed with mine so I had to call customer service to ship out the correct part. I think I have had this issue on the last two covers. Issue was always resolved in a professional and professional way but it is just an added cost to you and an extra step for the customer. You dont expect this from this price point.

Expected a bit more for the price
First, watched the online video instructions for my year mode and make prior to starting. Small item, but 1/8" shims shown in the video were not included with my purchase. Second, both rubber bumpers that support the cover when in the folded position became unattached after 6 weeks without ever having the cover in the folded position. Third, both struts that are used to lock the cover in the folded open position are constantly vibrated from their holders and then hang down getting entangled in what ever cargo is being carried. Just a matter of time before they are broken off.

What a waste of time
First box came without hardware. Second box came with everything but was not straight with one side being longer than the other. They kept asking me for pictures and measurements till I had enough and sent it back for a full refund. Will never buy anything from them again. The funny thing is ,this is the second time they asked me to do a review on their junk.

Better Than OEM with easy install
The Ford Maverick factory options are fine but the BAKFlip is heavier duty. The installation was easy and took an hour but I have installed one on my F350 previously. It may take a little longer for someone with no experience installing a bed cover. Instruction are easy to follow. The BAKFlip is popular so there are excellent videos of step by step instruction online. An advantage of the BAKFlip is it is more secure than a regular cover. It’s going to be hard for someone to break into my bed and steal anything.

I bought the MX4 cover for my super duty. Installation is easy and takes about 30 minutes. Fitment is second to none. After installation we went on our annual beach trip which we hit rain for nearly 3hrs of the drive. Not a single thing was wet with having this cover. I highly recommend

Poor quality
The first backflip we received had a divet in the panel. They sent us a new panel that had the corner cover damaged and the screw pulled out. It was for a Long bed truck and it didn’t come with full length solid rails we had to add the extra 2’ which wasn’t easy and was annoying. Since we have been using it for over a month, 4-5 of the protective foam pieces have come loose and fallen off and we have tried to put some back on but they keep falling off. Overall this seems like a very low quality truck bed cover with components that can’t hold up to hardly any use or the outdoor elements. Very disappointed in this product.

It leaks
Was initially impressed with the bed cover. Appearance is great, installation was easy. But after a rain, water pools in the middle of the cover and begins to leak in the middle of the bed. Ive had numerous bed covers (roll up/soft trifold/hard trifold) and they all leak and I understand that it is unavoidable. However, other bed covers have leaked towards the cab or at the tailgate. This one leaks right in the middle of the bed. For the price I cannot and would not recommend this cover to friends/family.

Second truck to have one
There are few things now a days that are true “quality meets value”. But I would say BAKFlip is one of them. Tight selling to the bed and super secure. The only time I’m getting any water inside is at the tailgate when the truck gets washed with the power washer. The cool thing is, I have a short bed F250 and t fifth wheel camper. This cover has clearance with the front section down. I can’t tell you much about other brands, but if I ever had to, I would buy another BAKFflp, hands down.

The Best Truck Bed Cover Yet!
In 2015, I bought my first BakFlip and transferred it to my second Ram 1500. Here in 2026, I bought my third Ram and decided to get the new BakFlip design and am glad I did. Very easy to install and it took me less than 30 minutes. I love the finished look - like it's from the Ram factory. I like that the folded panels are really secured in place when driving and won't get whipped in the wind plus it leaves room for maximum cargo space. The upgraded cable system for latching and unlatching is another big plus. They really designed a great product and I recommend it over all the others out there. . . well worth the money!

Fit, finish and effectiveness outstanding, While I never expected the cover to be dust or waterproof: dust, winter drizzle and snow are almost completely kept out off box. No more moisture enters between the MX4 and the top of the tailgate than what enters between the tailgate edge and box. This is limited to the far corners of the box. At a legal 80 mph interstate speed, the MX4 does not leak along the rails or the boxes front crossover.

I like the cover especially because it's a hard top. There still is leakage and some parts, like the seal, seem to be fragile. Mines popped off. I have to move it a little to make it lock. If I have to use my whole truck bed, it covers my whole back window. I do like the steak flush look. I like that it easily opens with the pull down. I also like the fact you can close it with the truck bed door open or closed. Overall I like it, but for the price, definitely wish there were some things that were better.

Poor Q/A inspection
While the cover looks good the quality of parts were defective. I had to call for replacement and repair parts twice. The cable to release the lip broke due to poor workmanship. I had to replace the latch myself after only 2 weeks. This is way overpriced for having to fix it myself.

Great utility, quality not as much
My wife had one of these on her 2010 nissan titan and it was perfect in every way. So when we bought a newer truck (2015 ram 2500) we wanted to get the same cover. Tonneau was shipped quickly, was packed well and had easy instructions. The fitment is perfect and the overall utility is great. I espec6like how it acts as a headache rack when fully up and out of the way. I've had this item for a year now and have had it opened and closed around 30-40 times. The wire for the section closest to the tailgate broke. Inside the latches the wire is looped and crimped on and it slid out of the crimps. So I had to buy new cable and fix it. Works like a charm now. I will say the other stock cables work well and have not broken. Other issue is the clips that hold the seal into the side of the tonneau keep popping out. They pop back in easily but it's definitely annoying and causes the seal to…

quiestionable longevity
I have this cover on a 2021 F250. I work in the construction industry and need to open it often. The corner pieces have fallen off and the coating doesn't hold up to medium use. The seal leak in various places. If this is something you rely on, I would consider other brands.

Needs Additional Latch set
Second fold from rear window needs a latch set. The joint raises and lowers after your speed reaches 70 mph and above. This can lead to water leaks at the joint. Contacted company, but would not fix problem or refund money. They said this is normal function of the cover. This problem is caused by the design of the aerodynamics of the truck with the Cab Air Deflectors. This is different from all other Chevy Trucks.

Disappointing Quality for the Price
For the price I paid, I wouldnt buy this cover again. The biggest issue is with the long-bed rails. They come in two pieces, but only include three mounting clips. Because of this, its very difficult to get the rails properly aligned during installation, and they never seem to line up quite right. The adhesive rubber bumpers have already started coming loose after being exposed to warm weather. Lastly, the cover gets extremely hot in direct sunlight. It becomes uncomfortable to touch and makes it painful to open when needed. Overall, Im disappointed. For what this cover costs, I expected better quality and a better-designed product. Now that its installed, I feel stuck with something Im not satisfied with.

Tonneau cover is nice - but damaged inside of packing
The cover went on well but once I installed it, I noticed the clip that holds the strap for locking into place in the folded position, was broken off. I found the broken piece in the packing material. The only real fix would be to send the whole cover back and I needed it for my truck. I guess I should have looked it over more closely when I removed it from the packing.

Clamps weren't right
The clamps don't seat well against the metal behind the cap rail plastic. So, they can't hold straight when closing the cover. I contacted support and they said to send a picture and over a week later I've gotten nothing back after additional email. Pretty disappointed that something so simple couldn't be resolved quickly. I have put backing material in place until they figure it out so I can at least use it. The tailgate seal was also not seated correctly so I had to take it off and reseat it. For such an expensive product they really aren't doing the small parts well.

Too short
Love everything about the cover except that it’s too short. It barely covers the edge of the bed at the front and just touches the tailgate. Seems about two to three inches shorter than it should be so it doesn’t keep the water out at the tailgate and it’s not very secure for theft.

It looks unfinished. The rubber molding on the sides creased up were it folds. I gave it some time n the heat to see if it would flatten and it didn’t. The corners by the cab looked unfinished. The installation of the rails was horrible, yes I did it right, and it still didn’t close and lock wo slamming it or lifting on the side rails get it to lock. For the amount of money it cost I expect much better. So I returned mine and went with another brand from another company. And am very happy now. No rubber flap edges. Easy install and locks every time. Yes: the return process was fast and easy, but I’m rating the product.

Bakflip MX4 Ram truck w/rambox
I’m very disappointed with this product. It leaks at both the front and rear, which defeats the whole purpose of having a bed cover/top in the first place. The instructions were also a major issue. I have a Ram with the RamBox bed, but the instructions provided were for a Chevy 1500. The installation is not the same, and it made the process much more frustrating than it needed to be. Had I known the product would not seal properly and that the correct truck-specific instructions would not be included, I would have chosen a different top. At this point, I honestly wish I could return it.

If you want a cover that does not leak look somewhere else. It has been installed correctly and it's still does not prevent water from entering the bed. . after a good rain the bed as water in it do not keep anything that is valuable in your bed.

Backflip MX4 Bed cover honest feedback
First of all, I don’t like to bring bad news, that being said, here it goes. Last year 2022 in may, I received my first MX4, it looked great! I had little trouble with installing it, about 30 mins I’d say. My issue is with the overall durability or thickness the bad cover aluminum, it dents so easily. One hailstorm and it looked like a golf ball. Ugh, that was just having it for a few months. The company was receptive to my concern, and sent me a “fiberglass” one to hopefully correct the issue. The next light hailstorm and it was another golf ball. I’m not sure if they sent me another aluminum one by mistake, or their fiberglass dents vs. cracks? It’s just a lot of money to ruin the look of your otherwise tough looking truck. Sorry Bakflip, you even tried to make it right by sending me another one, and still failed. Makes me feel a little sick.

Good but not perfect
Looks good, I like that it folds all the way for full bed access. One of the bumpers for when it is fully open blew off. Still leaks water inside. Could probably use to be made a little longer for more coverage over the tail gate. I was expecting better for the money I paid for this thing. I have a cheaper one on a different truck that leaks about the same. I going to try some extra gasket in places and hope for the best.
