BedLocker fast facts on a Ram

A short overview filmed on a Ram 1500, running a little over a minute. It shows the cover opening and closing on the truck and points out the canister at the bulkhead, which is the quickest way to see how much bed space it uses.

Full install on a Ram

The long version, around twelve minutes of install footage on a Ram. Rails, canister and the wiring run are all covered, so watch it before you decide whether to fit the cover yourself or hand it to a shop.

BedLocker compared with the JackRabbit

A side by side against the JackRabbit, the manual retractable from the same brand. Under two minutes, and useful if you are still weighing the motor and remotes against a cover you work by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How do I open it if the truck has no power?

Pull the drive system release handle. It disconnects the motor so the cover can be moved by hand, which is what you want after a dead battery or a blown fuse. The instructions in the kit cover putting it back once power is restored.

Can I leave the cover half open?

Yes. Press any button on the remote while the cover is moving and the electromagnetic brake locks it where it is. That works at any point along the rails, so a load that hangs over the tailgate can still sit under a covered front half of the bed.

What happens to rain water?

It drains. Water that gets into the canister leaves through tubes built into the bottom of it, which is why the cover has to be installed with those tubes clear and routed. Keep them free of leaves and the canister empties itself.

Will it fit a bed that already has a liner or a cargo management system?

Often yes, with the right option selected. The fitment list carries separate parts for beds with cargo management systems, RamBox beds, Titan boxes and CarbonPro liners. Drop in bed liners may need modifying where the rails sit, and the sheet included with the cover explains that.

Can I wash the truck with the cover on?

Normal washing is fine. Keep the pressure washer off the canister opening and the slat joints, since neither is sealed against a direct jet. Dry the cover before you close it if you can, and clear grit out of the rails now and then so the slats keep moving smoothly.

How is this different from the manual retractable covers?

The hardware is close. The difference is what moves the cover. A manual retractable is pushed and pulled by hand with a spring assist, while the BedLocker runs on a motor and stops wherever you let go of the button. The manual models also lock with a key rather than a brake.
