Security is the reason to choose a retractable over a folding cover. Aluminum slats carry the deck rather than fabric or a single plastic panel, and a tailgate extrusion built into the rear edge means the tailgate cannot be dropped while the cover is closed and latched. A top-facing twist latch takes the key. There is no panel to unclip and no corner to lift.
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
Mostly, but Roll-N-Lock does not call the M-Series XT waterproof and neither will we. The one-piece vinyl top sheds the weather, and integrated channels in the rails feed two drain tubes that carry whatever gets past the seals out under the truck. In a heavy downpour or at a jet wash you should expect some moisture to find its way in around the edges. Roll-N-Lock's warranty explicitly excludes water intrusion, including leaks in normal use, so treat this as a highly water-resistant cover and keep anything that genuinely must stay dry in a sealed container.
Roll-N-Lock publishes a canister depth of 7.25 inches across the M-Series XT. That is the space at the front of the bed, against the bulkhead, that the rolled-up deck occupies, and it is there whether the cover is open or closed. If you regularly carry something that fills the box front to back, measure it against your bed length minus roughly seven and a quarter inches before you order.
Yes. A patented ratchet-style latching mechanism catches the deck at three points along its travel, and the cover locks at each of them. That means a load standing proud of the bed walls can still be covered from the bulkhead back, rather than forcing the cover fully open. Roll-N-Lock does not publish a load rating for the closed deck, so do not treat the cover itself as a load floor.
No holes go into the truck. The MaxTrak rails clamp to the bed rails with the hardware in the box and the canister housing sits against the bulkhead. The catch is the bedliner: if your bed has a drop-in plastic liner, that liner has to be cut back with a jig saw and drilled so the canister seats and the drain tubes can pass through. Roll-N-Lock gives the exact cut measurements in each application's installation sheet, linked on that application's page. A spray-in liner or a bare bed needs none of that.
The cover does it for you. Roll-N-Lock builds a tailgate extrusion into the rear edge of the deck, and with the cover closed and the twist latch turned, the tailgate cannot be opened. You do not need the truck's own tailgate lock for the bed to be shut. Open the cover and the tailgate works normally again.
The T-slot runs the full length of both rails and takes standard T-bolt hardware, so crossbars, bed racks, rack feet and tie-down knobs can be anchored anywhere along it. RealTruck publishes a T-slot compatibility guide listing which rack and accessory lines fit these rails and which need an additional kit, and it is linked in the Resources tab on every XT page. Crossbars and racks are not supplied with the cover, and Roll-N-Lock publishes no load rating for the rails, so follow the rack maker's own figure.

I recently purchased RNL M Series XT Tonneau Cover. I found the YouTube video more helpful than the paper instructions that came with the cover. It only took about an hour to install, is well constructed and a good overall value. Love the roll and lock feature!
I ordered a Roll-n-Lock M series for my Gladiator which arrived damaged. The customer service department was friendly, knowledgable and efficient at processing my return. Great company with great people. My choice for all things for my Jeep.
I have installed other brands but none were as simple as this install. The video provided step by step instructions to supliment the paper instructions.
I really love the new pickup, but the RollβnβLock XT is frosting on the cake!!
Great To have looks great durable and versatile
good
Awesome bed cover and No drilling. Clean and custom look to truck. Order was filled and delivered within a week.
I am not happy that i paid 100$ to have my new drop in bed liner installed and then receive the roll n lock and find out I had to pay another 100$ to have it removed and butchered so the cover would fit!! There were no warnings this would be necessary or I would not have bought it.. now if I remove the bed cover I will have to replace the bed liner..also the front of the bed being wider , the adapter or filler piece you provided is completely noticeable and Iβm afraid the gap will leak. I understand you have to make the unit as universal fit as possible but it is very obvious.
I have had this item on two Silverado 2500s and a F250. Awesome cover and so far no water leaks.
Just installed cover n love it! Pretty easy to install. I had a spray in bed liner from factory n holes were pre drilled including drain tube holes. One of the parts were damaged during shipping and called and sent them pics and quickly shipped me a replacement part. Couldnβt ask for a better experience!
I got the Roll-N-Lock M Series XT Tonneau Cover. Easy installation and a really useful and sharp looking design! I would strongly recommend this product.
Great cover
Product delivered on time in great condition. Installation instructions were easy to follow. Installation took about an hour. It would go much faster if I installed another one. This is my third Roll N Lock. (First self-installation). The new version appears to have better rail support than my 2014 version. The cover slides smoothly and locks easily. Iβm very pleased with my purchase.
Ordering was easy. Delivery was faster than advised. Install took a bit longer doing it myself, but was easy. Makes my truck look better.
Install was simple. Definitely helps if you have a helper. My 10 year old son was my helper and we got it done and it turned out perfect. Definitely keeps everything dry underneath. The track cap is a great feature to have. I have already put that to use and installed a bed rack that attached to the track. And itβs SOLID!!
Very easy to install yourself. Made pretty well. Donβt tighten everything until cover operates smoothly opening and closing.
I used to write installation instructions as part of my job. I found the instructions for this product lacking in many ways. There were pieces loose in the box that there were no instructions for. A one- hour or less project turned into about 4 hours. I wish now I had chosen another product.
The new bed cover is great everything I expected. I broke one of the plastic corners on the rail and Brad in customer service was very helpful and is sending me a new one
The cover seems to be really well built. The installation instructions were very thorough but seemed to have one step out of order. I love the way the cover looks on the truck. The cover opens and closes just fine so far (three days) and has survived some moderate rain
Really like this cover, the fit is perfect and the installation was easy. Super low profile and when retracted, virtually no loss in bed space.
Excellent product. Great directions. Keeps the elements out and my gear safe. My only issue came with the fitment for the Ford Maverick. Where the clamps fit well don't allow the cover to retract. I was able to push them into place against the pinch weld. But it was a lot of back and forth on the final steps of the directions to ensure smooth operation. Still a great product.
The Roll-N-Lock product is one of the more durable covers out there that isn't a full hard metal shield. They perform well over time and hold up against the elements. Overall, I really like it. I just wish the top panel was not warped. Every one I look at seems to bow down in the middle.
Good overall
A little disappointed that the cover appears to bow or sag in the middle.
This 124M-XT is my second purchase of a Roll-n-Lock retractable cover. My first was a 2017 Chevy Colorado 261M-XT with a much stronger and more reliable retractable mechanism than the current 124M-XT. Are there simple instructions available for me to tighten the spring and improve the retractability.
I installed the cover and it works as far as the retracting and closing of the cover, I definitely love this more than the roll up cover I had on my last truck. It also clicks and stops in place so you can have it partially open/closed, thatβs an awesome feature. However there are spots where water enters into truck bed at the corners. Where the drum is, I attached a picture that shows the gap, I think this can be corrected if they cut the weather stripping in correct place instead of overlapping each other. At the rear of the bed there is a gap between the cover and the rails that lets water in. However I have a bed floor mat so most of the water travels down and underneath the mat so itβs not a huge big deal but enough for me to not store tools in the truck bed, to keep from rusting. If they made it to where there was like a wedge seal on the rails then I think this cover would be perfect. I attached a picture of it as well, where the gap is. I also think the gap may close up if you mount the rails about 1/8β or 1/4β shorter than what the directions say, I have not tried this yet, I may try it at an 1/8β shorter to allow for expansion/contraction of the materials but still be smooth for opening and closing the cover. Or I may try to find a rubber seal in shape of wedge and see if that works. Whichever I do I will try to post a follow up afterwards. Overall I really do like the cover and would buy it again if these issues were corrected. Lastly, the installation instructions could use some work to make it easier to understand.
Getting the order fulfilled took what seemed like a long time. Two weeks of asking Customer Service "When will it ship?" I did not get an answer. I finally pestered the Sales team then it was shipped the next day. The Tonneau cover itself arrived in good condition, fit perfectly and was not at all difficult to install.
Overall happy with the product. It functions smoothly and does the job. For the price, I just think it's a bit under-built and would benefit from a bit more robust design. Mainly, the overall water-tightness of the design could be improved. The roll up cover's housing - the box it rolls up into - is not adequately sealed against rainwater intrusion; I had to caulk its internal seams as well as the drain holes that the drainage hoses are fitted through, and tape over two of the holes in the back of the housing. (To be clear, NOT the holes at the bottom of the housing that the drain hoses feed through. ) It wasn't an easy process as the seams are difficult to access. The removable housing cover deforms easily; it should be made of heavier gauge aluminum and/or more securely packaged to prevent it from arriving damaged. As a consequence, it doesn't seal very well against the bulkhead; I had to add weather stripping along its entire length. It doesn't look pretty; if I were handier I'm sure it would look a lot better. In heavy rain, I've resorted to applying a length of gaffer tape to completely cover the gap between the housing cover and the bulkhead. It doesn't look pretty, but it works. Lastly, installation took a couple of tries. A detailed video tutorial would have been helpful.
Overall I'm a little disappointed considering the price. When the housing was installed flush with the bulkhead end of the bed, about 1/4" gap was left at the tailgate (enough to see into the bed), I had to adjust and slide everything back to fix this. The packaging came with loose screws and washers in the box. The rail of the cover has a cheap rubber lining that is not secure (not sure who designed that, time for new engineers). The retractable cover slid smoothly at first, now takes a little shove to slide open. Looks nice and clean. I haven't added any accessories into the XT rails yet.
After a few days of use the retract has slowed alittle bit
Wish they had more item that fit into the slots, as the crossbars I ordered did not fit and are on back order for full size trucks. Now wishing I wouldn't have spent the extra $$
I like it, but it was delivered with a slightly dented canister and missing one bolt and washer and a small scratch on the canister.
Disappointed that pieces that were offered if purchased before Dec3 did not come with delivered items QR code for installation instructions took me back to purchase page . . no install instructions
I bought the Roll-N-Lock M series XT retractable cover for my new 2025 Ram 2500. I had purchased and installed one of these in 2014 on a 2014 F150. I am pleased with the design and concept. My new truck is a crew cab short bed with gooseneck/ 5 wheel pre package form Ram. I intend towing an gooseneck trailer occasionally so the retractable cover is necessary with the short bed. I have a 2019 Ram 3500 dually with an 8 foot bed and a Bak-Flip cover. It works withe the 8 foot bed but I couldn't see it working with the 5 wheel or gooseneck hitch. The problem i am having is the driver's side latch will not stay latched. The plastic truck bed caps are hitting the cover's striker. The mounting hardware does not give you any adjustment for additional clearance.
\I like the cover but it leaks really bad.
I ordered my bed cover the end of November it is now almost the end of December and the bed cover still hasnβt shipped. When I check the order status it shows as βwaiting for fulfillment. β
Cover arrived well packed, and upon initial unboxing, equipment seemed that of good quality. Lo and behold, there were no paper instructions, just a QR code. After 10min of searching for the correct model number, applicable instructions were found. Yet no writing, just cave man style pictures with numbers and lines. No explanation on how to put anything together. So, after watching several YouTube videos. Installation commenced. This roll top is built so poorly, and the materials so thin, I literally bend the housing of the cover with just my hands, getting it into place. The brackets are a joke, nothing is labeled. The sequence is not labeled. So after two hours trying to get everything g to fit correctlyβ¦ the top would not close. Rails were unable to be affixed straight. Beyond frustrating, to say the least. I would rather take a rubber mallet and smash my forehead a few times, before ever attempting this installation, again. On a positive note, customer service was 5 stars. Return was easy and efficient. Save the head ache I went through, donβt buy this productβ¦
Will not support 200 lbs. Junk! Terrible service
Not happy with this product , it will not stay latched . Adjustment is correct on the rails but will not stay latched closed even if locked . I would not recommend this cover. My roll n lock cover on my F 250 has functioned flawlessly since 2015 but it latches to the tailgate . I bought this one for the T Slot rails but that seems to have been a mistake!
Very disappointed in it. Top isnβt as sturdy as I thought it would be, it still allows water in when it rains, sags in the middle at the back where it retracts to and donβt like the look of the lip by the tailgate. Overall, just wish I stuck with the trifold style cover!
I bought my first Roll N lock 25 years ago and it was reliable and solid. This one that I just purchased is flimsy and will not stay locked in a partial open position like my first one. The new one has very weak slats that I swear must be plastic because they flex so easily. If you lock in a partial open position it will open on the road due to the cheap plastic keepers that attempt to keep in place. I will probably be throwing this in the trash within a year as it cannot be returned now.
