Two ways into one bed

The Deuce is built to open from either end. Drop the tailgate, release the rear toggle and the whole cover rolls forward to the cab on retainer straps, which clears the bed completely. Or leave the tailgate shut, flip a lever on either side of the truck and the front section of the cover hinges up, giving you the first 30" of the box without walking to the back. Most owners use the front hatch daily and the full roll only when something large goes in.

Sealed at all four corners

TruXedo puts EPDM rubber seals at every corner of the Deuce, backed by foam block seals that compress between the underbody rails and the front bulkhead as the clamps come down. Rubber at the corners is what decides whether a soft cover keeps dust and weather out of a bed, because corners are where the geometry of a truck box fights the geometry of a flat lid. Under the vinyl the aluminum frame is powder coated gloss black, which is the part that has to survive a decade of road salt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How do I get at the front of the bed without dropping the tailgate?

That is the reason this cover exists. A release lever sits on each side of the truck just behind the cab, and flipping one lifts the hinged front section of the cover up and forward, exposing roughly the first 30" of the bed. You can do it from the driver side or the passenger side, whichever you happen to be standing on, and the front latches re-engage on their own when you press the section back down. Lift up on the front edge afterwards to confirm it has caught. One firm rule from TruXedo: never drive with the hinged front open.

Does it roll all the way back as well?

It does, and that is the other half of the design. Open the tailgate, pull the rear release toggle, and roll the cover forward toward the cab, keeping both sides even as it goes. Secure it at the cab with both retainer straps before you move off; a partly rolled or unstrapped cover is the one thing TruXedo warns about most, because wind will find it. Do not stow the rolled cover hard against the cab or the back window. Rolled and strapped, the entire bed is open, which is what a folding cover cannot give you.

How tight should the clamps be?

TruXedo does not publish a torque figure for the Deuce, and we are not going to invent one. Across all five installation documents the company serves for this cover, the instruction is the same sentence: tighten the clamps securely on the side rails before driving the vehicle, so the cover cannot blow off. What the documents do give you is a set of positions rather than numbers. Mount each clamp as high on the rail as it will go for the best grip, press down while you tighten so the side seal stays compressed, and set the underbody rails 30-1/4" back from the front bulkhead on both sides. If the rear header will not latch, the cause is usually a side rail sitting out of level rather than a clamp that needs more force.

Will it keep the weather out?

Most of it, yes, though waterproof and airtight are words the manufacturer avoids for every cover it builds, and so will we. The Deuce seals with EPDM rubber at all four corners plus two foam block seals that compress against the front bulkhead as the underbody rails come down, and the vinyl surface is held taut by tension controls built into the cover's own hinges. The corners are where a truck bed leaks, which is why that is where the rubber is. In a long downpour or a pressure wash, expect some moisture to get past the tailgate, and keep anything that genuinely must stay dry in a sealed container.

Can I take it through a car wash?

Yes, and this is one of the few covers where the manufacturer says so in writing. TruXedo's manual states the vinyl cover can be hand washed with mild soap and water or cleaned in a car wash, and asks that you rinse thoroughly so no soap residue is left on the surface. You can also treat it with a vinyl protectant made for tonneau covers. What voids the warranty is the wrong product: never use a conditioner containing silicone, petroleum or citrus, because those will crack and shrink the vinyl. That rules out most general-purpose dashboard sprays.

How secure is it, and can it be locked?

The Deuce has a security lock on the driver side, and the manual shows it in both positions and states that the cover can be locked while it is rolled up or in the open position. What that gives you is a cover that cannot simply be flipped open or unrolled by hand. TruXedo is equally plain in the same manual about the limit: a fabric cover will not prevent theft of the contents of the truck box. Treat it as a deterrent and as a way of keeping what is in the bed out of sight rather than as a safe. If a lock is the deciding factor in your purchase, the aluminum-slatted Sentry and Sentry CT are the covers built around one.
