This Elite is the one dimensioned for the Ford F-150 with the 5'7" box. The Elite is a single molded lid rather than a set of folding panels: it hinges at the bulkhead on a four-bar hinge, rises on two hydraulic struts and locks from a one-hand handle, and closed it is rated to carry 500 lb spread evenly across it. An EPDM double-bulb seal runs the whole perimeter, and because the lid overlaps the bed caps and the tailgate, locking it holds the tailgate shut as well. Underneath it carries a molded X-brace, an LED light module and a webbing pull strap. Two people set the lid onto the Ford F-150, and after that the brackets stay put whether the lid is on or off. This is part UC2208, the Elite built for the 2021-2026 Ford F-150 with the 5'7" (67.1") bed.

Features

One Lid, Not Three Panels
The Elite is a single molded lid rather than a set of folding panels, so there are no panel seams running across the bed and nothing to unfold before you can see what is underneath. Unlock it, lift it, and the whole box is open in one movement. It is the format to pick when the bed is storage first and a cargo deck second.

500 lb Spread Across the Closed Lid
UnderCover rates the closed Elite to carry 500 lb evenly distributed, the highest figure it publishes on any cover it currently sells. That covers a winter's snow load or flat sheet goods lying across the lid. The rating is for weight spread over the lid, not concentrated on one spot.

Two Struts Do the Lifting
A pair of hydraulic struts takes the weight of the lid once it is past the first few degrees, so raising it is a push rather than a haul, and it stays up on its own while you load. The struts snap onto the rear brackets during assembly and need no tools.

Locks From a One-Hand Handle
The Elite carries an integrated lock mechanism worked by a single handle, so the lid is secured without a separate padlock or a cable running into the bed. Because the lid overlaps the bed caps and the tailgate, a locked lid also holds the tailgate shut.

A Double-Bulb Seal Around the Whole Perimeter
UnderCover specifies an EPDM double-bulb seal around the perimeter of the Elite. Two sealing lips instead of one is what lets a rigid lid sit on a bed rail that is never perfectly flat and still keep weather out of the corners.

Installation

The mounting brackets bolt and clamp to the inside of the bed, the four-bar hinge on the lid drops onto the front brackets, and the struts snap onto the rear brackets by hand. Nothing is drilled into the truck.

The bracket positions are measured from the back face of the bulkhead, and on this application UnderCover's sheet gives the front bracket at 17 1/4" and the rear bracket at 40 1/4". Those figures are for this part number only; a sibling part on another bed uses different ones.

No cutting or drilling is done to the truck itself. A plastic drop-in bedliner is a different matter: UnderCover's own sheet says a drop-in liner will need some minor trimming so the mounting brackets seat properly. A spray-in liner needs no work. Any modification is made to the liner and never to the UnderCover mounting hardware, because modified hardware voids the warranty.

Warranty, Shipping & Returns

Warranty. UnderCover covers the Elite with a three (3) year limited warranty, and warranty registration and claims are handled by the manufacturer. Four conditions in the printed terms catch people out more than the rest. Do not drive with the lid in the open position and never tie it down while it is open, because that loads the front hinges and can crack them, and that damage is not treated as a manufacturer defect. When the lid is closed it should be locked with the tailgate up. Use only cleaners, waxes and products labeled safe for use on plastics, and keep insecticides and solvents off the lid. Any trimming needed to fit the brackets is done to the bedliner and never to the mounting hardware, because modifying the hardware voids the warranty. Free shipping. The Elite is a rigid one-piece lid in a carton a little over seven feet long, so it moves by freight rather than by parcel carrier, and it still ships free within the contiguous United States. The carrier will contact you to arrange a delivery window, and delivery is to the curb. Inspect on delivery. A long, shallow carton is the part that takes the knocks, so open it and look at the lid before you sign for it. If the carton is crushed, torn or soaked, write that on the delivery paperwork and tell us the same day so we can get a replacement moving.

The whole bed, one lift

A one-piece lid trades folding for a single movement. Unlock the handle, lift the rear edge, and two hydraulic struts take the weight and hold the lid up while you load, with the whole length of the box open and nothing folded forward eating into it. Drop the tailgate afterwards and you have the full bed floor and a clear opening at the rear. When you need the box completely clear for something tall, the lid comes off its four-bar hinge and the mounting brackets stay on the truck, so putting it back on is a lift and two twist knobs.

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

Does my tailgate still open when the cover is closed?

No, and this surprises people who are moving over from a folding cover. The Elite is a one-piece lid that overlaps the bed caps and the tailgate, so the tailgate is held shut while the lid is closed and locked. That is the security trade: there is no way into the bed without the key, but there is also no reaching in over a dropped tailgate. In practice you unlock the lid, lift it on its struts, and then drop the tailgate, which is one extra step rather than a different way of using the truck. If you need the tailgate to work independently of the cover, a folding cover is the format that does that.

Do I have to drill into my truck, and how long does it take to fit?

Nothing is drilled into the truck. UnderCover's installation sheets for the one-piece covers do not call for a drill anywhere, and the mounting brackets clamp and bolt to the inside of the bed. UnderCover does not publish a fitting time for the Elite, so we are not going to quote one. What the sheets do say is that you need a second person to set the lid onto the truck, and that a plastic drop-in bedliner may need minor trimming so the brackets sit flat. Trim the liner, never the mounting hardware, because modifying the hardware voids the warranty. Work from the vehicle-specific sheet in the carton rather than a video, because the bracket measurements change from truck to truck.

How much weight can the closed lid take?

UnderCover rates the Elite at 500 lb evenly distributed, which is the highest figure it publishes for any cover in its current range. Evenly distributed is doing real work in that sentence: it means weight spread across the lid, not a point load in the middle and not somebody standing on one spot. A snow load, a couple of sheets lying flat, or a rooftop bag on a long drive are what the number is for. And it applies to the lid closed and latched, never to the lid open.

Will it keep my bed dry, and what happens in snow and ice?

It keeps weather out well for a bed cover, and UnderCover does not call it waterproof. A rigid one-piece lid has no panel seams to leak, which is its main advantage over a folding cover here, and UnderCover specifies an EPDM double-bulb seal around the whole perimeter. Wind-driven rain and a jet wash can still find the bulkhead corners on any bed cover, so keep anything that genuinely must stay dry in a sealed container. In snow, clear the lid before you open it rather than lifting a loaded lid, and expect rubber seals to stiffen in deep cold like any rubber seal. UnderCover publishes no operating temperature range for the Elite.

How does the lock work, and does it use my truck key?

The Elite locks through an integrated lock mechanism worked by a one-hand handle, and it comes with its own keys. It does not use your truck's factory key and UnderCover does not offer it keyed to a vehicle. Because the lid overlaps the tailgate, locking the lid also secures the tailgate, so one key covers the whole bed. Keep the spare somewhere other than the glovebox, because the glovebox is inside a truck whose bed you have just locked.

Can one person lift it off, and where does it go then?

Plan on two people. UnderCover's own sheet says to set the lid on the truck with assistance, and a rigid full-bed lid is awkward long before it is heavy. UnderCover publishes no weight for the lid on its own, so we are not printing a figure. The kit includes two J-hooks and wall mounting screws precisely because the lid needs somewhere to live once it is off, and the sheets give a wall mounting height. The mounting brackets stay bolted to the truck, so putting it back on is a lift and two twist knobs rather than a full refit.
