The Paint Warranty at the Lower Price
The LUX and the Elite LX carry the same warranty structure, a limited lifetime term on the ABS polymer structure and on paint UnderCover applied itself, with one year on the gas struts and mounting hardware. What the LUX gives up to sit below the flagship is the carpeted headliner, the higher published load rating and the rotating-handle latch, not the finish or the warranty behind it.

Center Twist Lock, Two Keys
Security is a single-point locking system worked from a center twist lock, with a hinged weather cap over the cylinder and two keys in the box. One turn secures the whole lid, and because the lid overlaps the tailgate, that turn holds the tailgate closed with it.

Covers the Bed Caps and the Tailgate
The lid sits over the bed caps and across the tailgate rather than down inside the bed rails, so the rails themselves are under cover and the closed truck presents a continuous painted surface from the bulkhead to the back of the tailgate.

A Light and a Strap Underneath

Installation

The mounting brackets bolt and clamp to the inside of the bed, the four-bar hinge on the lid drops onto the front brackets, and the struts snap onto the rear brackets by hand. Nothing is drilled into the truck.

The bracket positions are measured from the back face of the bulkhead, and on this application UnderCover's sheet gives the front bracket at 18 1/4" and the rear bracket at 33 3/4". Those figures are for this part number only; a sibling part on another bed uses different ones.

No cutting or drilling is done to the truck itself. A plastic drop-in bedliner is a different matter: UnderCover's own sheet says a drop-in liner will need some minor trimming so the mounting brackets seat properly. A spray-in liner needs no work. Any modification is made to the liner and never to the UnderCover mounting hardware, because modified hardware voids the warranty.

Warranty, Shipping & Returns

Warranty. UnderCover's printed terms for the one-piece covers warrant the ABS polymer structure of the LUX to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product, and warrant the gas and hydraulic lift struts and the mounting hardware for one (1) year from the date of purchase. On top of that, covers painted at UnderCover's own factory carry the UnderCover Lifetime Paint Warranty: for the life of the product the exterior paint will not abnormally fade or peel from a material or workmanship defect faster than the paint on the truck it is fitted to. , and it is explicit that covers not painted at the UnderCover factory are excluded, so an unpainted lid finished by your own body shop is covered for structure and components but not for paint. UnderCover also does not guarantee a 100% paint match. The warranty runs to the original purchaser, on the original truck, when the cover is bought from an authorized dealer, and registration and claims are handled by the manufacturer. Four conditions in the printed terms catch people out more than the rest. Do not drive with the lid in the open position and never tie it down while it is open, because that loads the front hinges and can crack them, and that damage is not treated as a manufacturer defect. When the lid is closed it should be locked with the tailgate up. Use only cleaners, waxes and products labeled safe for use on plastics, and keep insecticides and solvents off the lid. Any trimming needed to fit the brackets is done to the bedliner and never to the mounting hardware, because modifying the hardware voids the warranty. Free shipping. The LUX is a rigid one-piece lid in a carton a little over seven feet long, so it moves by freight rather than by parcel carrier, and it still ships free within the contiguous United States. The carrier will contact you to arrange a delivery window, and delivery is to the curb. Inspect on delivery. A long, shallow carton is the part that takes the knocks, and a painted lid shows a scuff that a black one hides, so open it and look at the finish before you sign for it. If the carton is crushed, torn or soaked, write that on the delivery paperwork and tell us the same day so we can get a replacement moving.

Built to live outside

A one-piece lid has no panel seams to work loose and no fabric to stretch, which is most of why a rigid cover survives weather that a folding cover only tolerates. The LUX closes onto the bed caps and the tailgate rather than into a frame inside the rails, so water runs off the outside of the box instead of collecting in a channel. UnderCover does not call it waterproof, and no seal specification for it exists in its literature, so treat it as weather resistant rather than sealed and keep anything that genuinely must stay dry in a closed container.

What you are buying is a lid sprayed to the same OEM code at UnderCover's own paint line, not a lid color-matched to your individual truck by eye. Give us the code from your driver's door jamb sticker rather than the marketing name, because several codes share a name and several names share a code.

Which paint code do I pick, and what if mine is not listed?

Use the code printed on your driver's door jamb sticker, not the name your dealer used. The list on this page is every code UnderCover sprays this cover in, pooled across all the model years the cover fits, so a code may be there for a year other than yours and your year's code may be absent. Factory palettes change annually and UnderCover follows them rather than leading them. If your code is not in the list, the unpainted option exists for exactly that reason: the lid arrives ready for a body shop to spray, though a cover painted outside UnderCover's factory is excluded from the lifetime paint warranty.

What is the difference between the LUX and the Elite LX?

Both are painted one-piece lids from the same brand, sprayed to the same OEM codes and carrying the same warranty structure. The Elite LX sits above the LUX: it publishes a 500 lb evenly distributed load rating where UnderCover publishes no load figure for the LUX at all, its underside is a carpeted headliner rather than bare textured molding, and its latch is a one-hand rotating handle with a key lock and an integrated thumb lock rather than the LUX's center twist lock. If the finish is what you are buying and the extra hardware is not, the LUX is the cheaper way to the same paint.

Does my tailgate still open when the cover is closed?

No. The LUX is a one-piece lid that sits over the bed caps and across the tailgate, so a closed and locked lid holds the tailgate shut. That is how one key ends up securing the entire bed, and it is also the thing that catches out people coming from a folding cover. The sequence becomes unlock, lift the lid on its struts, then drop the tailgate. If you need the tailgate to work with the cover still closed, look at a folding cover instead, because no one-piece lid behaves that way.

Do I have to drill into my truck, and how long does it take?

Nothing is drilled into the truck. UnderCover's installation sheets for the one-piece covers do not call for a drill anywhere, and the mounting brackets clamp and bolt to the inside of the bed. UnderCover publishes no fitting time for the LUX, so we are not going to quote one. What the sheets do say is that you need a second person to set the lid onto the truck, and that a plastic drop-in bedliner may need minor trimming so the brackets sit flat.
