Weather Guard Puts the Pack Rat Through a Durability Beatdown

Weather Guard's own durability film, in which the Pack Rat is loaded, slammed, dropped and generally abused to show what the 14 gauge steel top and 12 gauge skids actually survive. If you are trying to work out whether a steel drawer unit is worth the weight over a plastic box, this is the clip that answers it.

Weather Guard Sliding Truck Bed

This official Weather Guard video demonstrates the sliding truck bed that pulls your whole load out to you instead of making you climb into the bed. You watch it glide out under a heavy jobsite load, rated to carry up to 2000 pounds, so tools and materials come to the tailgate. It shows how much faster and safer loading and unloading becomes on a busy work truck. It is a strong companion to Weather Guard's boxes and drawers for organizing the bed.

Best Upgrade for Your Truck

This is Weather Guard's own brand film about outfitting a working pickup, built on the idea that the truck should already be loaded and organized before the day starts. It puts the bed and rail equipment in the context of a real work day rather than a spec sheet. Watch it if you are still deciding how much storage a truck actually needs. It is the clearest short look at how Weather Guard boxes, racks and drawer units are meant to work together on one vehicle, and it comes straight from the manufacturer rather than a reseller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How much can it hold?

The wide roll-out drawer is rated for 425 pounds evenly distributed and the reinforced steel top and sides carry up to 2,000 pounds evenly distributed, so you can load a big inventory in the drawer and still stack heavy cargo on top.

Is the black unit any different from the white 379-3-04?

No, the 379-5-04 is the same extra-large 72 by 48" steel floor unit as the white 379-3-04, with the same 425 lb drawer, 2,000 lb top rating and One-Touch latch with 1KEY UltraLock. Only the gloss black ARMOR TUF finish changes.

Will it fit my truck?

The 379-5-04 is about 72" wide by 48" front to back and 9-1/2" tall, so it needs a full-size pickup bed or a large van floor wide enough to clear the wheel wells and deep enough for a 48" footprint. It will not fit mid-size or compact trucks. Measure your bed floor before ordering and check the Weather Guard Pack Rat sizes and fit guide.

How is it mounted?

It bolts to the bed floor through the steel base with the included hardware. Plan to drill mounting holes, seal them with zinc-rich primer, and on aluminum beds follow the blind-fastener steps in the instructions. Because of its size and weight, plan for a two-person set and a forklift or several hands to place it.

Why choose the blacked-out version?

Fleets and crews often pick the black 379-5-04 to match a dark bed build or because a full bed-width unit shows less road grime in gloss black than in white between washes. The wide roll-out drawer still comes divided into a large compartment grid with adjustable dividers.

What is it made of and is it covered by a warranty?

It is built from 14-gauge steel on the top and sides over 12-gauge steel skids with a Gloss Black ARMOR TUF powder-coat finish, it is made in the USA, and it is backed by a Weather Guard Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
