Features

  • Trigger Latch, Two Slide Locks: With the tailgate down, one finger on the driver-side trigger frees the rear bar. Press the bar down and the latch catches by itself; slide locks under the rear bar on both sides push in to lock and pull out to open.
  • Rolls to the Cab, Clipped: One person can roll the cover up toward the cab and use the whole bed. Quick Clip nylon straps with buckles hold the roll behind the cab, and Access says that is all it takes to hitch a fifth wheel.
  • No-Drill Tight Bite Clamps: Six toothed clamps bite into grooves on the side rails and hold them inside the bed walls, with no drilling on most trucks. A few trucks bolt on or need a special sheet instead; the child page names it.
  • Rides Just 1/2" Above the Bed: The TonnoSport sits only 1/2" over the bed rails, the same low line Access gives its Vanish. Black aluminum bars pair with silver side rails and bows: two bows on most beds, three on most long beds.
  • EZ-Dial Tension, No Tools: Dials on the front bar take up slack as the vinyl settles in. Turn both the same amount, counterclockwise to tighten. Access says a cover kept drum tight runs quieter, lasts longer and is less likely to hold standing water.
  • Sealed on All Four Sides: Front and rear seals plus foam along both side rails close off the edges of the bed, and a 1" hook-and-loop strip seals each side for the full length of the rail. It is weather-resistant, not waterproof; Access notes some moisture and dust can still get in.

Description & Fitment

The Access TonnoSport is a soft roll-up tonneau cover for the 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma with the 5'1" bed and no Toyota hard cover. It mounts with special bolt-on hardware, and Access warns the deck rail system may not be fully usable afterward. It rides just 1/2" above the bed, is sealed on all four sides and tensions by hand with EZ-Dial adjusters. A trigger latch and two slide locks keep it closed, and it rolls to the cab and clips in place.

Access roll-up covers come from Agri-Cover, Inc. of Jamestown, North Dakota, which says its covers are built there. Agri-Cover says it introduced the first roll-up tonneau cover, the Access Original, in 1991; it also makes LOMAX hard covers, truck racks and farm roll tarps.

Access calls the TonnoSport its entry-level roll-up. It shares the Vanish's 1/2" height, trigger latch and slide locks, then keeps the price down with EZ-Dial adjusters, silver side rails, the bulkhead gasket as an option and a 2-year warranty.

Will this fit my 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma?

How is the TonnoSport different from the Vanish?

Both sit 1/2" above the bed rails and use a trigger latch with two slide locks, a 1" hook-and-loop strip and a flat rear bar. Access calls the TonnoSport its entry-level roll-up: it has EZ-Dial adjusters, silver side rails, the bulkhead gasket as an option and a 2-year warranty, where the Vanish adds XT-Dial adjusters, black rails, a standard Element Seal gasket and 3 years of cover.

Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?

It keeps most of it out, with seals at the front and rear, foam between the rails and the bed and hook-and-loop down both sides. Access's own sheet says no cover stops all moisture and dust, so wrap cargo that must stay dry and seal any factory holes or stake pockets. An Element Seal gasket for the front wall is sold separately. Brush snow off before you roll it up.

Does the cover lock?

The trigger latch catches every time you close it, and slide locks under the rear bar on both sides add a second hold; release the slide locks before you open it. Access says that with a locking tailgate the bed becomes a secure unit. It is a deterrent rather than a safe, so don't leave valuables in an unattended truck.

Will it work with my bed liner?

Usually, yes. Access lists spray-in liners, bed mats and most under-the-rail drop-in liners as compatible. Its sheet says an under-the-rail drop-in needs a little trimming at the front corners and near the tailgate, while an over-the-rail drop-in needs a lot more.

Here's the short version. Follow Access's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions, plus any special sheet your truck needs.

  1. Clamp the side rails. Set each rail with its weather strip against the inside lip of the bed and its guide resting on top, pushed forward to the front wall with the strike at the tailgate end (long beds join the two rail sections first). Clamp it near the front, at the middle and by the tailgate with the teeth in the rail grooves and the rail level and flush, then torque every clamp to 20 ft-lb or the value on your truck's special sheet.
  2. Attach the tension adjusters. Set the pre-rolled cover on the tailgate with the front bar facing up. Thread the left (L) and right (R) adjusters onto the front bar with their bolts and flat washers, and leave both loose.
  3. Mount the cover to the rails. Set the cover at the front of the bed and roll the front bar onto the rails, tucking the vinyl flap under it, with the alignment tabs against the front wall. Slide each adjuster under its rail and bolt it from the top without turning the dial.
  4. Center and tighten the front bar. Center the front bar so the gap is equal at both rails and check that the flap is still tucked under. With each adjuster's support tab under its rail, tighten the bolts you left loose.
  5. Close and set the rail height. Unroll the cover, set the rear bar in the strikes and press it down. Close the tailgate slowly; it should sit snug under the rear bar, so raise or lower the rails at the rear to suit, then re-check each clamp's torque, working from the cab back.
  6. Set the tension and seal. Open and close the rear bar a few times: it should snap shut, with no sag in the vinyl between the bows. Roll the cover open to adjust, turn both adjusters the same amount (counterclockwise tightens) and seal both sides with the hook-and-loop.

    Agri-Cover, which makes Access covers, gives the TonnoSport a 2-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship, under normal use on the truck model the cover was made for.
    • The 2 years run from the date you received the cover or its date of manufacture.
    • Agri-Cover repairs or replaces defective parts, at its option. No labor or service allowance is included, and incidental or consequential damages are not covered.
