The PowerStep Smart Series puts an override in your pocket. It works like any PowerStep, swinging out when a door opens and retracting under the body when the doors close, but the AMP Research app on an iOS or Android phone can also deploy or retract the boards on demand. That means the step can stay out while you load cargo or wash the truck, or stay tucked away on the trail, with no separate switch to install. The boards themselves are 6" wide aluminum with a textured black powder coat, LED step lighting and a 300 lb per door rating.
Features
Deploy or retract from your phone The AMP Research app for iOS and Android sends the boards out or brings them in on command, whether or not a door is open.
Handy for loading and washing Hold the steps out while you load cargo or wash the truck, instead of propping a door open to keep them deployed.
Held in on the trail Keep the boards locked in the retracted position when ground clearance matters more than a step.
Automatic every other day Without the app the Smart Series behaves like any PowerStep: out when a door opens, tucked under the body when the doors close.
No separate switch to fit The app does the job of a physical override switch, so there is no extra hardware to mount or wire.
Aluminum boards rated for 300 lb The boards are powder-coated aluminum in textured black, rated for up to 300 lb per door, and pivot on stainless steel pins and hardware.
A lit, 6" wide step The slip-resistant step is 6" wide and lit by integrated LED lamps when it deploys.

A Smart Series kit is built for one vehicle and pairs the motorized linkages and controller with a wire harness and a Smart Series OBD-II plug-in module that supplies the door signal. Every Smart Series guide includes drilling, and shorter cabs trim the boards to the lengths the guide lists. The wiring is joined with crimp or Posi-style connectors, so plan on electrical work or have a shop handle it. Torque every fastener to its listed value and test each door before you call it done.
Warranty, Shipping & Returns
Warranty. The PowerStep Smart Series is covered by AMP Research's limited warranty for defective materials or workmanship, as long as it was installed following the supplied instructions. AMP Research repairs or replaces a faulty part at its discretion, while removal and reinstallation labor stays with the owner. The original purchaser alone is covered; the cover stops once the boards are fitted to a different vehicle or the vehicle changes owner, and it does not reach abuse, collisions, incorrect installation, alterations, inadequate upkeep or hazards on and off the road.
Inspect on delivery. Examine the boards, linkages, controller and plug-in module on delivery and write any damage on the paperwork before you sign. Compare the box against the guide's parts list before the install, so a missing part surfaces while it can still be replaced.
Returns. Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. If an item arrives damaged, defective or wrong, return shipping is on us. See our Returns & Refunds Policy, or email support@prestigetruck.com with any question.
About AMP Research
Since launching the PowerStep in 2002, AMP Research has built power-retractable running boards alongside steps for the pickup bed and bed extenders. Under its limited warranty the original purchaser is protected against faulty materials or workmanship on products installed per the instructions, for as long as the product stays fitted to its first vehicle.
The Smart Series is the connected member of AMP Research's five powered running boards. It shares its app with the PowerStep Vision, which adds full-length color lighting on top, while the PowerStep, the XL for lifted vehicles and the two-motor Xtreme work from the door signal alone or an optional override switch. AMP Research's BedStep, BedStep2 and BedXTender HD models handle the pickup bed.
Smart Series boards follow the PowerStep recipe: a powder-coated aluminum board in textured black, stainless pins and hardware where it pivots, and LED lamps built in. The mounting kit is engineered for one vehicle, and AMP Research holds patents covering the design.

Step control from your phone
The Smart Series lets you send the boards out or bring them in from the AMP Research app, independent of the doors. Keep them deployed while you load up, or hold them in on a rough trail, then let the doors take over again.
Tucked away until needed
Retracted, each board sits under the vehicle rather than along the rocker, keeping body lines clean and ground clearance intact. It comes back down the moment a door opens or the app asks it to.

Automatic, with an override
Day to day the boards follow the doors on their own. When you need something different, such as a step held out for washing or kept in for the trail, the app overrides it without a separate switch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on specs, fit and support
What can the app do that the doors can't?
It deploys or retracts the boards on demand. Keep them out while you load cargo or wash the truck, or keep them retracted on the trail when ground clearance matters. It also stands in for a physical override switch, so you do not need to fit one.
Do the steps still work automatically without my phone?
Yes. The Smart Series deploys when a door opens and retracts when the doors close, the same as any PowerStep. The app only adds manual control on top.
Is it plug-and-play?
Its door signal comes from an OBD-II plug-in module, yet fitting it still involves wiring. Smart Series guides splice the harness together with crimp or Posi-style connectors, and some vehicles also need a factory wire tapped or a lead taken to the battery.
Will I need to drill or trim the boards?
Plan on drilling: every Smart Series installation guide includes it. On shorter cabs the boards are also cut to a length the guide lists. Read the guide for your vehicle before you decide who will install it.
How long does the install take?
Smart Series guides allow 2 to 5 hours depending on the vehicle and class the work as experienced level. AMP Research recommends professional installation given the wiring involved.
What does the warranty cover?
It covers defective materials or workmanship on boards installed as the supplied instructions describe, repaired or replaced at AMP Research's discretion. Removal and reinstallation labor is not part of it. Only the original purchaser is covered, the cover stops once the boards are fitted to a different vehicle or the vehicle changes owner, and it does not reach abuse, collisions, incorrect installation, alterations, inadequate upkeep or hazards on and off the road.
