Two motors for rough weather

The Xtreme gives each side two motors instead of one, adding the torque to push a board out through ice, packed snow or mud. Open a door on a frozen morning and the step is meant to be there, then back under the body once the doors close.

Folds up tight under the cab

When the doors close, each Xtreme board retracts beneath the body instead of hanging off the rocker. The profile stays clean, ground clearance stays where it was, and the board is out of the way while you drive.

Built for harsh climates

Under the dual-motor drivetrain is a corrosion-resistant aluminum board with a textured black powder coat and stainless steel hinge pins, rated to 300 lb per door. LED lamps light the 6" wide step on dark winter mornings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

What is actually different about the Xtreme?

The drivetrain. The Xtreme uses two motors on each side where the standard PowerStep, the XL, the Vision and the Smart Series use one. The board itself is the same 6" wide aluminum step rated to 300 lb per door. Choose the Xtreme when snow, ice, mud or trail debris regularly get into the mechanism.

Does two motors mean it will never freeze up?

No. The second motor adds torque to push through build-up, but it does not make the linkage immune to it. Keep the pivots clean: blast the front and rear linkages with a pressure washer while keeping the jet off the motors, mist each pivot with dry-film silicone spray, and cycle the doors. Skip grease, oil, WD-40 and penetrants.

Is it plug-and-play?

Newer Xtreme applications draw the door signal from an OBD-II plug-in module, while some earlier ones are wired into the vehicle's circuits; the guide for your vehicle shows which. Either way the job includes electrical work: the harness is joined with crimp or Posi-style connectors, and on some vehicles a factory wire is tapped or a lead runs to the battery.

Will I need to drill or trim anything?

Usually. Most Xtreme applications drill holes in the pinch weld or floor, and on shorter cabs the boards are cut to a length the guide specifies. Read the installation guide for your vehicle before deciding whether to fit it yourself.

How long is the install, and can I do it myself?

The Xtreme guides estimate between 2 and 5 hours by vehicle and class the install as experienced-level work, and AMP Research advises professional installation. With four motors to seat and connect, follow the wiring steps exactly, and check every part against the list before you start.

What does the warranty cover?

Faults in materials or workmanship on boards installed the way the supplied instructions describe. The remedy is repair or replacement of the part at AMP Research's option; removal and reinstallation labor is excluded. It is the original buyer's cover, it lapses if the boards go onto another vehicle or the vehicle is sold, and misuse, accidents, poor installation, modification, lack of maintenance and road hazards fall outside it.
