- Classic S-Type sound: Borla puts S-Type in the middle of its three sound levels: bolder than Touring and a little tamer than ATAK. Borla describes it as aggressive when you get on the throttle and more refined once you settle into a cruise.
- Starts behind the converters: A Cat-Back system takes over from the catalytic converters rearward and swaps the pipes, mufflers and tips that follow them. The factory converters are not touched and stay on the vehicle.
- Muffler tuned to the vehicle: Borla develops each system on the vehicle it is sold for, working out the muffler body, core layout and pipe routing around that engine, so the S-Type character suits the platform rather than a generic muffler.
- T-304 stainless steel: Every system in this family is built from T-304 austenitic stainless steel. Borla picks it over 409 and aluminized steel because it stands up far better to road salt, moisture and repeated heat cycles.
- Million-Mile Warranty: Borla covers the system against flaws in materials or workmanship for one million miles, for the original buyer on the vehicle it was first fitted to. Tip finishes, black coatings and carbon fiber carry a one-year term.
- Tip finish choices: Most systems come in more than one tip finish, such as bright chrome, black chrome, carbon fiber or ceramic black, offered as options on the product page. A few systems reuse the factory tips instead.

This S-Type cat-back from Borla (part 140307) fits the 2009 Dodge 1500, 2010-2018 Ram 1500 and 2019-2024 Ram 1500 Classic with the 5.7L V8 automatic. Cab, bed and drivetrain coverage: Regular Cab 6'4" bed (120.5" WB), Quad Cab 6'4" bed or Crew Cab 5'7" bed (140.5" WB), factory through-bumper tip exit. You choose the tip finish: bright chrome or black chrome, all on 5" round rolled angle-cut long tips. It exits through a split rear exit with one tip on each side; Borla lists the pipe size as 3" into dual 2.5" out. It is built from T-304 stainless steel, and S-Type is the middle of Borla's three sound levels, by Borla's own ranking.

How does S-Type compare with Touring and ATAK?
Borla ranks its three sound levels with Touring the mildest, ATAK the loudest and S-Type between them. S-Type turns aggressive under throttle and calms to a smoother note at a steady cruise.
Do the catalytic converters stay in place?
Yes. A Cat-Back system begins behind the catalytic converters, so the factory converters stay on the vehicle and only the exhaust after them is replaced.
Do I need a shop to install it?
Borla's install sheets for these systems recommend an exhaust shop or professional installer, and they warn against air impact tools. Many also suggest a second person to hold the system up while it is hung. Some vehicles need the factory pipe cut; the Installation section on each product says whether yours does.
Can I send it back if I don't like the sound?
Borla does not warrant sound level, because how an exhaust sounds is a personal call, and it asks owners not to return a part for that reason. Settle on the sound level before you order. Borla notes that venturis, available from a retailer, can quiet a system later. For any other return question, contact us before you ship anything back.

Here's the short version. Follow Borla's install sheet (below) for your vehicle's exact steps.
- Unbolt the clamp located behind the rear muffler assembly.
- Lubricate all the hangers and rubber isolators.
- With a muffler stand or a helper holding the tail pipe up in place, remove the hanger from the rubber isolator and then remove the tail pipe from the vehicle as shown on the sheet.
- Unbolt the clamp located just behind the catalytic converter. using a muffler stand or a helper to hold the exhaust up in place, remove the hanger from the rubber isolator and remove the rear muffler from the vehicle.
- Unbolt the clamp. The clamp may have grooved the pipe and it may require cutting for removal. using a muffler stand or a helper to hold the remaining exhaust up into position, remove the hangers from the rubber isolators and remove the remaining exhaust from the vehicle.
- Place a clamp over the expanded end of the front muffler assembly and set it into position making sure to install the hanger into the rubber isolator. Do not tighten the clamp yet.

Borla's Million-Mile Warranty covers this part for one million miles against flaws in its materials or workmanship.- Coverage belongs to the original purchaser of record, on the vehicle the part was first installed on.
- Black coatings, tip finishes, carbon fiber and moving parts such as valves and actuators carry a one-year term. Blemishes or marring caused by weather, road hazards, lack of maintenance or extreme heat or cold are not covered.
- Borla inspects the returned part, and when it finds a manufacturing or material defect it repairs or replaces the part, at Borla's option.
- Sound level is not warranted, since sound is a matter of taste. Borla notes that venturis can be fitted to quiet a system.
- Universal mufflers must be joined at their inlet and outlet necks. Welding to the case shell or end caps voids the warranty.
- Not covered: the cost of removal or reinstallation; damage from accident, abuse, misuse or misapplication; parts that are modified or used for something other than their intended purpose; racing products, and street parts used for racing.

Sounds great but in order to clear rear spring and being too close to body panel the rubber exhaust hangers are extended all the way to rear of truck rather than a 12 to 6 setting. Not sure if the exhaust hanger bracket got bent out of shape at some point or not but it just didn’t fit as it should have.

2021 Titan Pro-4X Sound and Power
I had my eye on the Borla S-Type for some time. I ran them on my Mustang GT Premium and they were awesome. These added so much great sound to the Titan. They do not sound like some loud blatting cheap exhaust nor do they sound like I don't even have a muffler. They rumble and turn heads when I get on it. Personally I really do not hear them with the windows up and driving down the highway unless I get on it or pass someone. Then they sound out! I like to listen to music when I drive and be able to talk to my rider. These are great because you get the best of both worlds. I'd rather hear that my truck sounds nice and not hear that my truck is just loud. There is a big difference. Borla is quality at its best and it changed my Titan from single to duel exhaust so it also gives it a little more torque and power. Don't think about it, just get one, you won't be sorry. Looks amazing, it really gives the truck a sport look. It's a lot louder than I expected from the S-Type, but in a good way, its loud on cold start and when you really get on the throttle, but you can easily drive around and be quiet if you keep the RPM's low. There is no obnoxious drone, it gives the little 2.7 a nice deep sound. Very impressed with and happy with the exhaust.

Great exhaust system, BUT, fitment an issue
Install was pretty straightforward, except the fact the provided bracket and rubber hanger could not be positioned were the driver’s side tail pipe was straight out and evenly spaced from the passenger side tailpipe. It took a muffler shop to weld the the rubber hanger bracket to position the the left side. Even they could not get it completely perfect, but at least it did not look tooo off centered as it was previously. This kit was probably sized to be a universal fit between the comparative model years so keep in mind that the dual exhaust rear setup may not fit perfectly on the Silverado. Otherwise, the sound/performance is still quality. Borla needs to ensure their exhausts are matched up perfectly to specifics model years.

Definitely pricey, but you can immediately tell that it’s quality straight out of the box. Packaged nicely. Great exhaust note, and zero drone while cruising. Cold start is exactly what you want and then it quiets down after the truck warms up. It’s not ‘wake the neighbors’ loud but still aggressive, and that’s exactly what I was going for. The install was really easy, just take your time. I didn’t have to lift the truck, just dropped the spare tire to get it out of the way and easily pulled the old exhaust out. Definitely worth it.

Installed it on my '18 Power. Wagon. Complete bolt on replacement with easy instructions. The quality is excellent as well as the 5" tip sits perfect out the back. I would argue the sound is perfect for a daily driving. Drone is near-nonexistent when light on the throttle. But once you get on it, the truck definatley wakes up.

If you're reading this review and are contemplating purchasing this exhaust- DO IT! This definitely the choice for someone who wants a more aggressive than stock sound, but not overly annoying rice burning or awaking the dead during cold starts. Now I while preface everything in saying that this exhaust GROWLS. A cold start against a wall or building will absolutely draw attention- but it dies down quickly in under 30 seconds. I love riding around town with no music just to earn this exhaust "talk". Its dope to hear the engine shifts and combined with the ROUSH CAI I have- you hear the AIR. In sport mode, going WOT- oh yes it feels like NASCAR! This thing takes off like a rocket and SINGS! You get a mean growl all the way to 65-70 and then she throttles down and is silent. Highway there is NO DRONE. Super silent. I drive in ECO a lot and once I'm on the highway at like 65mph you forget…

Plenty Loud Enough!
I struggled whether to go with the S-Type or the ATAK. If you’re approaching 50 believe me this is loud enough! I love the sound but there is a chopping noise to it in V-4 mode at highway speeds. But around town it sounds great. I rated it 5 stars for installation but I have to confess I paid a muffler shop to do it for me.

Nice mild, not wild upgrade
Installed on a 2019 Chevy Colorado V6. Installation was simple, fit and finish were perfect. Gives the truck a more performance oriented sound without the drone of some other aftermarket systems. If you are looking for loud this isn't it. This isn't much louder than stock but exhaust has a better tone.

Great upgrade.
Wanted something with a little more roar than stock and this was just right. I have had flowmsstets before and found the drone to be deafening. This sports exhaust from borland gives great sound at idle a acceleration but does not have the drone of other brands. Very happy with the upgrade and look forward to years of enjoyment.

Best exhaust I’ve ever heard
The installation was a cakewalk everything fit perfectly and went together super smoothly. It only took an hour to remove and install the new exhaust system. And when I first started it I was pretty amazed by how deep the rumble was and it wasn’t an overly obnoxious sound like some exhausts are this one just has a nice smooth rumble to it. But when you get on it and let that bad Larry open up oh boy it sounds so good, once it opens up it’s got a great bark and the best snaps when the truck downshifts, and then when it says no drone it really means it in the cab it almost sounds factory because it doesn’t drone one bit. So all and all I would recommend Borla exhausts to anyone for any vehicle this is the best product I have ever put on a vehicle and I would buy it time and time again!

Logistical screw-up. Ordered this last-one-in-stock exhaust for my 11, 4 litre Tacoma. The rather large carton had my part number on one end, and on the other end a different part number, for a Dodge Challenger. Sure enough it was for the Challenger not my truck. I was really disappointed because every other vender was out of this exhaust. Customer service was very professional and apologetic. They issued UPS to come and get it. I'm aware of the reputation Borla has so I won't give any negatives below.

I wish I could have had a chance to hear it in person before I bought it, because it's not as deep sounding as I thought it would be. Overall very happy. Sounds very good, just a little bit of rasp when you hammer on it. Shipping was good, arrived on time and in perfect shape. Super super easy install, once I realized you have to take out the spare tire and heat shield.

Cant beat made in the USA, & it’s Well made.! Easy to install as well, I did it myself. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because I don’t really like the clamp system seems like you’ll never have a great seal between the pipes. I did have a clamp loosen up, so I emailed em & they sent me out two new clamps, no questions asked. Which was awesome,they did take a couple weeks to get to me but other than that Bo Problems. Nice upgrade to my ‘07 Frontier V6 4.0 Nismo. Not too loud, kind of gurgles really nice when you get on that gas, but not obnoxious..

I'm happy with the sound
I'm happy with the sound no matter how many times I saw the videos on the different systems offered they dont really represent the sound and feeling in person. So it's a hit or miss. My only complaint is that the flared end that bumps onto the stock and gets clamped is too far away you need to shift it forward and I'm not too. Convinced with the clamp set up if I was 1 inch longer perfect but where it hangs on the exhaust hanger its a little far off and the to bump it towards the front and clamp it with only a half inch overlapping doesnt seem like something to expect for a thousand dollar plus kit

Good prchase
The pipes have a great look and a good sound. They are not as deep as I would like when driving but sound much better that the stock pipes. Not sure about performance as of yet.

Double cab short bed Tacoma
I’ve had this for 3or 4 years and it’s still going strong, some discoloring but northeast winters are rough. It won’t turn your truck into a race car or sound like fighter jet but it gives it a some rumble and flow without any drone or obnoxious noise
