Features
- One-Hand Rotary Release: Drop the tailgate, twist the rotary knob on the driver side and lift: the rear panel opens with one hand. Extang says this release is unique among soft tri-fold covers.
- Latches Itself When Closed: Lower the cover onto the bed and the Auto Latching System catches both latches on its own, so there are no tailgate clamps to set every time you close it.
- Folds for 2/3 Bed Access: Fold the cover toward the cab and fasten both buckle straps for about two thirds of the bed. When a load needs every inch, the whole cover comes off in minutes.
- Hand-Tightened Clamps: T-handle clamps hold the cover to the bed rails at the cab. They tighten by hand with no drilling, and loosen the same way when you want the cover off.

How do I measure my bed?
Measure inside the bed floor from the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. Extang lists this bed as 8'. Truck makers often round their bed names, so compare the measurement, not the name.
How is the Trifecta ALX different from the Trifecta 2.0?
Both are soft tri-fold covers on an aluminum frame. The Trifecta 2.0 is held shut at the tailgate by spring-loaded EZ-Lock clamps that you release by hand. The ALX replaces those with a rotary knob you turn with one hand to open it, and latches that catch on their own when you close it.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to. Extang says the triple-fin seals are part of the frame rather than glued on, and the MegaBows keep the top from sagging under rain, hail and snow. Like any soft folding cover it is weather-resistant rather than watertight. Brush snow and ice off before you fold it; Extang's warranty requires that.
Can I drive with it folded open, or take it off?
Yes to both. Fold it toward the cab and fasten both buckle straps with the tethers attached, and you can drive with about two thirds of the bed open. For the whole bed, loosen the clamps by hand and lift the cover off. Never drive with it partly open.
How do I clean the vinyl?
Use Extang Tonno Tonic or mild soap and water. Skip vinyl conditioners that contain silicone or petroleum: they dry the vinyl out, and Extang's warranty excludes damage from them.

Here's the short version. Follow Extang's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact bracket hardware and torque settings.
- Set the cover on the bed. Lay the folded cover over the cab end of the bed, square, with its bulkhead seal on the bulkhead. Unfold it and slide it until the tailgate seal touches the tailgate with its first two fins, then fold it back up without moving it.
- Clear the flange and clamp the front. If a plastic bed-rail cap hangs below the metal bed flange (Extang names 2004-2014 and 2021 F-150s and 2009-2019 Rams, but check any truck), trim just enough plastic for the clamp to reach the metal; never cut into the bed. Then slide each cab clamp to the bed rail, hook its jaw under the metal flange and hand-tighten until it touches, then two more turns. Not on a liner lip or the plastic cap, and no wrench.
- Close the cover and mount the striker brackets. With the tailgate open and both cab clamps tight, close the cover. Fix a striker bracket (it comes assembled with its backing plate, weld nut and T-27 screws) to the metal bed rail on each side, lined up so its loop latches into the cover latch, and tighten the screws firmly with the T-27 wrench.
- Adjust the latches and rotary knob. Both latches and the knob leave the factory only partly tightened. Lower the rear of the cover, slide each latch until it catches its striker and lock it from underneath with the T-20 wrench. Leave 3/4"-1" of the driver-side cable through the barrel clamp, tighten the knob screws and the barrel-clamp set screws (2.5mm hex), then turn the knob to check both latches let go. Hand tools only, no power tools.
- Make the final adjustment. Back off the striker bracket bolts or screws, push the closed cover firmly down (or pull the rear bow down) onto the rail and tailgate so the brackets move down, match both sides and retighten.
- Fit the tethers and recheck. The tethers come looped over the cover bow. Slide each tether clamp onto the bed rail as far up as it goes and hand-tighten the knob, both sides. Lift the corners gently to check the cover is latched, and re-tighten the cab clamps and tethers after your first week of driving.

The cover looks great, is completely waterproof and easy to install - make sure you watch the video first to save yourself time. Don’t assume the opener is broken when you see a piece of wire that looks like it has been cut. That is simply a piece you will install and tighten down at the end.

Extang Trifecta ALX is just ok
The cover seems nice and I like the unlocking mechanism. The install wasn’t the easiest. After installed I noticed defects in the vinyl. Scratches and what not so not super happy about that being it came like that straight out of the box. I’ll for sure go with a different brand and cover next time. Most likely a solid/hard cover like a BakFlip.

Excellent, When Properly Installed
Having had a great experience using the Extang Trifecta 2.0 for the past 3 years on a 2020 GMC Canyon, I was excited to get this Trifecta ALX with its new latching mechanism for my new 2023 Ram 1500. The initial install was a little tricky because I tried to do it only off of the written instructions. Watching the install video helped a lot, especially the part showing how the clamps are adjustable from side to side. Once I got everything lined up and properly adjusted, the new closing and opening mechanism of the ALX is much more convenient than the one on the 2.0. Have been using it for about 4 weeks now, and I very much like it. Would buy again, and would recommend this new Trifecta ALX model over the older 2.0 model.

Truck bed cover
I have had this cover on for over 1 month now and I really do like it. The cover seems well made and fits great. I have not had any issues with water getting inside the truck bed after I installed this cover. The latch mechanism is the weak link on this bed cover. They should engineer the latch so it could be opened from either side of the truck. Also, it is made of too flimsy materials. Value for the money spent is great overall.

Tonneau Review
On my old truck I had the original all snap version of the Extang. Using it in cold weather was tough trying to snap it closed. I wanted a solid cover for my new GMC 1500 but did not want to spend the money. I think it was a wise choice buying the ALX. Easy to install, easy to remove, and easy to fold up and store while on the truck.

Great fitting cover
Purchased for my ‘22 GMC Denali 1500 with the 6.5’ bed. It showed up in Idaho in 2 days. Watched the installation video which made the install go quick and easy. Didn’t experience any issues with the install. It fit very well. Wasn’t sure about the folding tonneau but my son talked me into it. He has the soft roll up style. Father in law said stay away from metal roll-up. Love how the Tri-fold is working. Opened it and secured to transport my wheel barrow. Turned out it fit under it. Went thru the car wash and it kept my bed completely dry. I was shocked. The ease of operation makes me love this cover more and more. I would highly recommend this cover. If my lab eats this one, I will buy another after I deal with him.

It's okay, but should be much better at this price
The overall concept is okay, but the engineering could and should be a whole lot better at the business end of the tonneau. Even with proper tools and an extra man to press down on the cover rails during installation, it is essentially impossible to get the cover perfectly taught because the latch rings are badly designed and don't make a perfectly solid grip. They should clamp on properly with proper leverage, but instead you're use little screws to apply the requisite stress. Also, the release is dependent on a thin cable, and the entire mechanism should be a lot more robust given the cost of the cover.

Looks good, functions well
Install was simple there are a whole bunch of videos on line. Simple set up and does exactly what I want it to do. When the tailgate close it is secure. Of course like any soft cover if someone really wants to destroy the cover and get in they can. I got this cover for my 2025 Tundra and it is beautiful on this truck. No issues with sound or rattles or moisture getting in. We haven’t had any serious downpours but drizzle has not made it through any of the edges or corners. I am not expecting the cover to be waterproof but so far nothing has got through. Really glad I got this cover.

Always Impressed with Extang Products
I first used an Extang Trifecta as a gift on a Toyota Tacoma. I had never heard of the brand before, and it was my first tonneau cover. It lasted as long as I kept the truck and I never had any issues out of it. When it came time to select a tonneau for a new truck, 2024 Frontier Pro-4X, I looked at the Trifecta once again. In my research, I saw that the design had been updated and that they had an ALX version. I didn't see the need to step up to the more expensive one at first, but after seeing a video on it, and seeing how the locking mechanism worked, I was sold. The only issue I ever had with the original Trifecta was that the latches would be hard to activate with a full bed. This is a great cover. When I received it and installed it, it had a broken latch cable. Extang was easy to contact and their customer service was easy to reach and were understanding. After sending them the information they need, they immediately said they would ship a replacement. That has been over a month and I have not received the replacement or heard anything from them. This is unexceptionable. I would have given 5 stars, but it has been over a month and still can't use the cover.

The install was pretty easy. This thing is very light and easy for one person to maneuver onto the bed rails. Alignment takes some time to get perfect, but still, we’re talking 5-10 minutes. Reference the instructions when it’s time to adjust the latches. It’s an easy process, but without the instructions, it’s not second nature. Once it’s all installed, it functions great, looks nice and tight, and locks up strong. It doesn’t really ripple in the wind like some of the older roll up tonneaus do; a slight flutter once you’re at interstate speeds, but it doesn’t make a sound.

The primary purpose of the cover was to provide a dry place for the grandkids school gear in bad weather. So far so good. There is a fair amount of movement while going down the hi-way but assume that is normal

Great compromise

Phenomenal
I did a lot of research on finding the right bed cover for my 2014 Ram. Every cover I’d look at people in reveries claimed this or that. I was specifically looking for a cover that didn’t break the bank, looked nice, secure, actually kept the truck bed dry from weather, and was convenient to operate and/or remove. Literally, this cover checks all the boxes and then some and my truck bed stays completely dry. Package arrived in a fair amount of time. No damages, etc and fit like a glove.

Good looking tonneau
Product looks great and performs as it should, installation is kinda a pain but doable definitely alot easier with two people. Def love the one handed operation of the open and close feature just twist the knob and boom your open. I have taken several trips down the hoghway at 70 mph and this thing stays put if your in the market for a solod tonneau this is def a great option

If BMW designed a truck bed cover
My title is perhaps a bit to tongue in cheek, but I feel this cover is “over engineered” and not in a good way. The tarp material has held up well and continues to look good. That is a quite important. However, the latching mechanism is just to complicated and doesn’t work very well. First off, the metal cable that extends between the left and right sides stretches and requires readjusting periodically, because as the cable stretches, you can’t pull open the clips to release the latches. This is not a big deal, but the simpler spring loaded handles on each side don’t require this AND they actually latch better. Secondly and more importantly, the latches lack much adjustment for position and as I drive around, one of them enviably works free and the trap edge lifts and begins to flap. Nice cover, not exact fit
Cover does a pretty good job, it leaks a bit in the rain, I might have to tighten it more. Out of the box it was missing a piece and the cover would not latch. The clips were 6 inches from the latches. Had to remove and redrill holes for the latch to make it fit. Works good now

Secure and waterproof
The cover was relatively easy to install (once I received all of the parts, the brackets were missing, called Extang and they were sent the next day). Once installed the cover feels very secure, no lifting or wobbling. After a couple of hard rains there was no water in the bed at all. The only aspect I am not a fan of is the twist mechanism to unlatch the cover. Tightening the wire to keep it from slipping is a bit of a challenge since it is suspended and not fastened to anything. Overall this is a great cover and very happy with the purchase.

Nice soft cover for my full size
Overall experience was pretty good. Fast shipping but not infomative shipping (tracking), on my first order. A blemish was addressed fairly. The install, better when its warmer probably. Overall I love it!

needs improvement
Latch brackets on 2015 f350 long bed ,which are probably the same on other ford models, need redesign to provide more positive latching. Spent alot of time trying to reposition these so that it catches the cover securely. Boys u can do better. Also the shipping packaging is horrible. First unit came with bottom blown out due to the skimpy box tape abraided through and damage to product and missing parts. Sent it back to only receive another blown out bottom, but not as bad. Forced to use this one due to pending trip. Mfg overnighted parts to make things work, kudos to them. All this could have been avoided by sturdier packaging tape and fasteners.

Extang Trifecta soft folding tonneau cover
The install on my Ford Ranger started out a bit difficult because of my bed liner. I was unable to use the supplied nuts for the brackets because they were so tough to get started and not enough room for wrench to tighten them so I used the bolts and a nut and lock washers. Once I figured out the first bracket the rest of the install went fast and smooth. Nice fit, after install took 350 mile highway trip, had torrential rain storm and 5 inches of snow. Cover passed with flying colors. Even went through auto car wash , no issues.

Fit a bit off…
Bought the Extang Trifecta ALX soft for my 2024 Tacoma and it looks great, seems well made and the instructions are easy to follow. My only issue is that it seems about an inch too short. The cab end seal falls in towards the middle and the flanged seal at the tailgate doesn’t quite hit where the instructions say it should. All this results in water getting in the bed.

The cover looks great and the single latch release is awesome. Installation was easy and only took about half an hour. The only drawback is there is a large gap between bows so when it is windy the fabric caves in between the bows and acts like a wind brake. Fuel mileage suffers because of this.
