Description & Fitment
Two TeraFlex ways to keep the factory 3rd brake light working and DOT compliant on a 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK or JK Unlimited after a larger spare goes on. Kit 4997120 works up to a 35" tire: the stock light bracket is cut and the extension bolts on in its place. Bracket 4997220 bolts to the factory spare tire mounting holes, adjusts the stock light in 1" steps for up to a 38" tire, adds a CB antenna mount and works with most aftermarket bumpers and carriers. Both reuse your factory light.

Which version should I pick?
4997120 is a cut-and-bolt extension for spares up to 35" and may need the TeraFlex relocation bracket 4904204 or 4904200. 4997220 is fully adjustable for spares up to 38" and bolts to the factory spare tire mounting holes.
Does it work with aftermarket carriers?
TeraFlex says 4997220 works with most aftermarket rear bumpers and tire carriers, including the Alpha HD carrier (not required), but compatibility is not guaranteed with some swing-out carriers.
Is a brake light included?
No. Both versions reuse the factory 3rd brake light from its stock bracket.

Installation

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- 4997120: Remove the spare tire, then open the tailgate, take out the four T20 screws holding the third brake light, unplug it and lift it out.
- Unbolt the factory tire mount (eight bolts) and grind off the small bump on the back of the mount.
- Hold the extension bracket on with the factory screws (holes nearest its middle) and use it as a template to drill two 1/4" holes in the tire mount, then take the bracket off.
- Measure 3" up from the edge of the mount's middle pocket, mark it, run masking tape along the mark and cut along the tape's lower edge with a cut-off wheel; deburr and clean the cut.
- Choose the bracket holes that suit your tire size, then fit the factory screws at the top of the bracket and the supplied bolts, nuts and washers through the new holes.
- Refit the tire mount to the tailgate, reinstall the third brake light and mount the spare tire. 4997220 is different: these steps do not apply; it bolts to the factory spare tire mounting holes and has its own TeraFlex sheet (999172, linked below).

TeraFlex's warranty list names no term for 3rd brake light extension brackets, so contact us before ordering and we will confirm the coverage.- TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
- Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
- For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
- Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
- Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days of defect coverage only, not wear from use.
