Description & Fitment
The TeraFlex 9550 VSS Steering Stabilizer fits the stock tie rod of a 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK or JK Unlimited and a 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ or Unlimited LJ. It is built for lifted Jeeps on larger off-road tires, where it helps cut bump steer, front end shimmy and wobble; TeraFlex says it beats the factory unit under those added loads. The 2" body is oversized for protection, the 5/8" rod is induction hardened and triple-chrome plated, and an integrated dust shield guards the rod against salt and sand.

About TeraFlex
TeraFlex describes itself as a Jeep company at heart, started and staffed by people who drive them. It designs, engineers and builds suspension systems, shocks, axles and performance parts, with the Wrangler and Gladiator at the center of the range.
The company traces its roots to the 1950s and MEPCO (Military Equipment Parts Company), an early supplier of Jeep parts. TeraFlex Manufacturing followed in 1996 to build heavy-duty suspension for the TJ Wrangler, and today's catalog runs from full lift systems and the Falcon shock line to axles, steering and armor.
Authorized TeraFlex dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized TeraFlex dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine TeraFlex. In TeraFlex's words, its limited warranty extends "only to the consumer who originally purchased the product," so keep your receipt with your build records.

Installation
- 18mm socket or wrench
- 15mm socket or wrench (2010-current Wrangler)
- 13mm socket or wrench (2007-2009 Wrangler)
- Torque wrench
- Marker or paint pen
- Rest on TeraFlex's tool list
Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Remove the old steering stabilizer by taking out its two mounting bolts at the axle and the tie rod (18mm).
- Press the two 5/8" OD x 1-3/8" sleeves into the new stabilizer's bushings, and mark the shock's travel limits with a paint pen, marker or tape; the stabilizer must never be what stops the steering.
- 2007-2009 JK: extend the shock fully, mark 1.5" from the edge of the dust shield and cut that section away; mark the tie rod bracket position, loosen its four U-bolt nuts (13mm), grind clearance on the bracket's bent flange if needed, and refit it just loose enough to rotate.
- 2010-current JK: mark the tie rod bracket position, loosen the single clamp bolt (15mm) and rotate the clamp so the pinch bolt is parallel to the ground.
- Fit the stabilizer with the factory hardware and torque both ends to 50 ft-lbs (18mm): on 2007-2009 the shock body goes to the axle mount and the dust shield to the tie rod; on 2010-current the dust shield goes to the axle mount and the body to the tie rod.
- Turn the steering lock to lock to confirm the stabilizer is centered, keeps travel left (12-1/8" collapsed, 19-1/8" extended) and clears the track bar and tie rod brackets, then tighten the U-bolt nuts to 35 ft-lbs (2007-2009) or the pinch bolt to 37 ft-lbs (2010-current) and cycle the steering once more; leftover hardware is for other applications.
