Description & Fitment
This TeraFlex skid plate protects the oil pan of the 4.0-liter inline-six in a 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ or Wrangler Unlimited LJ from rocks and other off-road hazards. It is CNC laser cut and bent from 3/16" steel and finished in black powder coat, and it is one of the two plates the TeraFlex HD Transmission Pan Skid Plate needs alongside the HD BellyUp. TeraFlex says it does not fit four-cylinder engines and estimates about an hour and a half to install.

About TeraFlex
TeraFlex describes itself as a Jeep company at heart, started and staffed by people who drive them. It designs, engineers and builds suspension systems, shocks, axles and performance parts, with the Wrangler and Gladiator at the center of the range.
The company traces its roots to the 1950s and MEPCO (Military Equipment Parts Company), an early supplier of Jeep parts. TeraFlex Manufacturing followed in 1996 to build heavy-duty suspension for the TJ Wrangler, and today's catalog runs from full lift systems and the Falcon shock line to axles, steering and armor.
Authorized TeraFlex dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized TeraFlex dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine TeraFlex. In TeraFlex's words, its limited warranty extends "only to the consumer who originally purchased the product," so keep your receipt with your build records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit a four-cylinder TJ?
No. TeraFlex says it does not fit I-4 engines; it is for the 4.0L I-6.
Do I need the transmission pan skid too?
Not for the oil pan plate itself. The TeraFlex HD Transmission Pan Skid Plate (4607100) is the one that requires this plate and the HD BellyUp.
Does it fit an LJ Unlimited?
Yes. TeraFlex lists TJ Wrangler and LJ Wrangler Unlimited models with the 4.0L I-6.
How quickly does it ship?
Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, and most orders arrive within 1-5 business days. We email your tracking number as soon as it ships.
Can you confirm it's the right part before I order?
Yes. Send us your VIN or year, model and your engine, transfer case and the TeraFlex parts you already run, and we'll check it against TeraFlex's fitment information before it ships.
Do I need to read the instructions first?
Yes. TeraFlex asks you to read its instructions fully before you start, check the parts list against the box, and judge whether you have the experience to do the work yourself.
Installation
Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Hold the skid up to find the engine block holes for its front arms and clean the rust and mud out of them (most TJs use 3/8-16 bolts on both sides; some 1991-1999 4.0L engines use M12-1.25 on the driver side; a knock sensor in that hole is refitted through the skid arm; add a flat washer if a bolt bottoms out).
- Temporarily unclip the automatic transmission cooler lines from their hanger to reach the left engine bolt, and fit both engine-side bolts loosely.
- Swing the back of the skid up to the bell housing and remove the matching factory bolts (manual transmissions: also remove the small inspection cover bolt at the bottom center).
- Before 2003: replace the two 5/16 or 12mm bolts with the kit hardware, putting one or two flat washers between the skid bracket and the inspection plate (leave the plate on) so it is not bent against the flywheel; use 5/16-18 x 1-1/4 bolts for automatics or the M12-1.75 x 55mm bolt with the original nut for manuals.
- 2003 and newer: swap the two factory M10 bolts for the supplied M10-1.50 x 25 bolts to fit the extra bell housing bracket finger tight (one flat washer behind it), then bolt the skid to the bracket with the 3/8-16 x 1-1/4 bolts, washers, split locks and nuts, finger tight.
- Tighten the side engine bolts to 35 ft-lbs, then the M10 bell housing bolts to 25-30 ft-lbs, and finally the skid-to-bell-housing bolts to 35 ft-lbs.
