Description & Fitment
On a 1997-2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ with an automatic transmission and the 231 transfer case, the factory shift linkage can be hard to keep in adjustment because the body and drivetrain move independently. This TeraFlex kit replaces it with a heavy-duty adapter bracket that bolts to the transmission and transfer case, so shifting into every low-range position stays simple. An adjustable torque shaft rod is included for fine tuning. TeraFlex lists about two hours of labor.

Does it fit a 2003-2006 TJ or a Rubicon?
No. TeraFlex lists all 1997-2002 TJ Wrangler models with automatic transmission and says it does not fit 2004-2006 TJ Wrangler/Unlimited or Rubicon models.
I have a manual transmission. Will it work?
TeraFlex designs it for automatics but says it can be modified for manual transmissions; the AX-15 needs extensive modification.
Do I need the longer rod?
TeraFlex highly recommends its extra-long 5.5" Adjustable Shift Linkage Rod (947105, sold separately) for longer linkage adjustment.

Installation

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Park on level ground, set the parking brake and put the transfer case in neutral; safely support the Jeep and use a jack to hold the transfer case and transmission at stock height.
- Remove the four transmission mount nuts (13mm) and, with a jack or a helper steadying the heavy skid plate, the six mounting bolts (3/4").
- Remove the stock linkage: pull back the carpet on the driver's side of the tunnel to reach the bracket bolts below the shifter, and remove the plastic bushing from the shift lever.
- Fit the new bracket to the transfer case with the supplied flange nuts and connect the shift linkage to the factory lever, replacing the plastic bushing with the metal one; TeraFlex recommends thread locker on the linkage fasteners.
- Starting from neutral, set the new lower link to about the factory link's length, install it and check operation; adjust the upper link with the transfer case at its operating height (trim the threaded rod carefully if needed) and tighten the jam nuts.
- Reinstall the skid plate with the transmission mount studs lined up, torque the skid plate bolts to 33 ft-lbs and the transmission nuts to 26 ft-lbs.

TeraFlex's warranty list gives its transfer case short shaft kits 1 year against defects in materials and workmanship. It names no separate term for the shift linkage adapter kit, so contact us and we will confirm that coverage before you order. Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days (defects only).- TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
- Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
- For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
- Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
